assisi says "Discount but Service Oriented" about TDAmeritrade

We have had accounts with this company since 1995. It has gone through many changes, but we have generally been highly satisfied with the service. Pricing is most favorable, too, except there are a few nuisance service charges, such as the $25 "reorganization" fee when a company is bought out and the stock is liquidated for cash. In theory, this should generate another brokerage commission, but TDAmeritrade apparently doesn't agree. — I have had a number of service problems over the years, but they have all been resolved thanks to access to a live person, rather than being forced into e-mail only communications. —...

assisi says "Undelivered Promises" about MyPoints - Rewards Visa Card

Washington Mutual (formerly Providian) offered a credit card to its customers via a statement insert. When I went to their web site to apply, they had changed the terms and conditions in a very material way. When I called to ask about the discrepancy, no one could give me a straight answer, the people I spoke to spoke an English almost unintelligible and they were in Texas, and their correspondence department never responded to my inquiry. — Shortly thereafter, I received the same offer from MyPoints. Even with a long customer history at Washington Mutual and excellent credit, I was offered a ridiculously low credit line, my credit burearu scores were lowered with a frivolous inquiry, and they refused to re-visit the subject, even though I offered to document my request. —...

assisi says "Beware the obstinate bureaurcracy" about MyPoints - Rewards Visa Card

Providian (now Washington Mutual) offered a credit card to its customers via a statement insert. When I went to their web site to apply, they had changed the terms and conditions in a material way. When I called to ask about the discrepancy, no one could give me a straight answer and their correspondence department never responded to my inquiry. — Shortly thereafter, I received the same offer from MyPoints. Even with a long customer history at Washington Mutual and excellent credit, I was offered a ridiculously low credit line, my credit bureau scores were lowered with a frivolous inquiry, and they refused to re-visit the subject, even though I offered to provide them with whatever documentation they needed. — Given this company's sub-prime mortgage problems, declining profits and plunging stock price, it would seem they would value their creditworthy customers. Clearly, they lack the systems and procedures to treat prospects and customers fairly...

assisi says "Expensive and Evasive" about University of Phoenix - Online Campus

I inquired about an advanced degree in health administration. I had several questions that I put to the admissions representative on-line and requested answers. All she would do is tell me to come in and visit the campus, a 190-mile round trip through nasty traffic. She never answered the questions, but continued to call and e-mail me several more times about enrolling. The tuition costs are astronomical with no concrete assistance in job placement at the end of the program. Separate experience I learned of after my own experience: A friend went through their elementary school teacher training program and reached the brink of completion, only to have the school become obstinate, and insist on repeating coursework he had already successfully completed. He refused and they demanded he start making immediate payments on the $22,000 of student loans he had racked up to enter the program. —...

assisi says "Relentless Marketing" about Colorado Technical University -

This school inadvertently got my name and refused to stop marketing me for months. I called, sent them e-mails and nothing seemed to work. When I spoke with an enrollment representative early on in the process and asked them some pointed questions, they refused to answer those questions. . .I suspect because either they didn't know the answers and refused to admit that...

assisi says "Cheap and not worth it." about Holmes Upright Space Heater

My experience with Holmes heaters is that they are inexpensive, but do not last a long time. They also do not do a good job of spreading the heated air through a room. The construction values are marginal. The consumer is better served by spending slightly more and buying the Vornado space heater. It is durable, does a great job of moving air, offers good design and color choices, and has served me well for many winters without turning on the big...
