ashleylynn says "A mess of a book" about Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)

The fact that readers consider Breaking Dawn quality writing makes me sympathize with today's English teachers. The book is easy to read because Meyer's writing is as mature as a freshman's, and there is no depth to the story. We have 400 pages of buildup to... nothing. Literally. They prepare for a battle the entire book, that NEVER happens. The scenes with Bella's daughter are cute, but overall the book lacks substance. The birthing scene is beyond disturbing, and after it Bella goes from being hopelessly insecure to incredibly vain. Are we really sending our daughter's the right message by telling them it takes super human strength and immortality to feel good about yourself? ...

The amount of description in the book is tedious- I do not find it necessary to know every detail of Bella's day, and please spare me another descripition of Edward's perfect appearance. The entire novel reminded me of one long descriptive essay- the kind 12 year olds are assigned to teach them how to use adjectives in writing. The romance was trite and did expand beyond Bella's love of Edward's looks and Edward's lust for Bella's blood. There is no substance, and other than a few awkward kissing scenes, there is nothing there to help me understand the "connection" the two characters share. There is no development of the relationship- Bella goes from hating Edward to being desperately in love with him within a few chapters, hardly blinking when she learns he is a vampire. Moreover, as a young woman, I find Bella a......
