arwen333 says "Is This How The Good Will Be Saved" about The Stand

The Stand, Stephen King's apocalyptic view of society is one of the best read a person can invest their time in.

Not only is the plot well developed, but the development of the characters is impeccable. They have depth and individual identities; in an age when character are homogenized and they all mesh together the reader will remember these characters long after finishing the book.

The plot contains the usual supernatural elements King is known for - with an added supernatural element - God. If this bothers you I would have to ask why. If a person can "suspend" belief long enough to entertain a clown that eats children, or vampires, why not God? That uncomfortable realm between atheism to agnosticisms to true believer is what creates the true tension in the plot. And that is what makes the time investment really worth it.
...

arwen333 says "Harry takes a bite out of the dark lord's retrun" about J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

The second enstallment of Harry Potter aids new characters, not so well rounded as our hero and his friends. These are the dark characters of Lucius Malfoy and some of his family and friends. It also itroduces the reader to Dobby a fresh, new and vital character. Dobby brings life into a story that at first seems to stahl.

Ms. Rowlings does seem to decide on a set course however and by the middle of the book the story is not so confusing. She leads us through paths of horror and susspense, laughter and tears.

As usuall excellent character development and creative story lines leads the reader on a grand parade. Populated by wizards and muggles a like.

The Secret Chamber is not as tight as the Sorcerer's Stone, but is nontheless a good story and worthwhile read.
...

arwen333 says "Harry Potter The Boy Who Did Not Die Begins Hogwarts." about J. K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

When first I picked up Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone it was to see what all the furor was about. I continued to read because it touched a core in me where I was still a child. At 42 I still had an inner child and J K Rowling knows how to touch that core in many varied and surprising ways. The story was well developed and the allegiances Harry made with Hermione and Ron seemed to have a strong emotional connection. Strong character development.

Rowliing's takes you on a thrill ride and the wonder of inexplicable things in this world are brought to the fore. There is a force in this world whether one wants to call it good or evil or both, it is supernatural. Rowling's audience accepts this being children or children at heart and not having the belief in magic beaten out of them by the world of hard knocks.

I was able to be a ten year old and relating to Harry and his friends in ways that surprised me.. This first step into Harry's world had no missteps and was sprinkled...
...

arwen333 says "Bare Escentuals has become a bare necessity!" about Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Complexion Make-up

I walked into the store to buy some lipstick and came out thinking, "What have you done?" I always wear makeup, but am very price conscious. Bare Escentuals can be a bit pricey, but I have come to realize, it's worth every cent. I had seen it advertised on infomercials for quite some time and wanted to try it but could not justify the cost. However the old adage about getting what you pay for really rings true for all of the products I have tried by Bare Minerals. It never feels caked on or creases. You don't feel "made up", but natural. As I have gotten older these things have become more important to me in the make-up I use. One last thing, I feel beautiful when I wear it....

arwen333 says "Just a slob like one of us. Isn't that a relief?" about The Da Vinci Code

Dan Brown is lost in the tangled web he has woven. He appears so knowledgable about his "facts" and this book that has so many hypothese which he presents as truth that the audience forgets this is fiction. But it is fiction. I admit it's entertaining, but Brown left his mind open to long and it fell out. My question is why? Why does he except as fact spurious research some of which is based on the "testimony" of a forger and self admitted liar. The writing flows and he has a nice style. To bad he was as careful about his research. For example the Emperor Constantine had nothing to do with putting the New Testament together; he merely called together the bishops so they could codify the beliefs of Christianity. Many people think that Christianity at the time was the state religion which is not quit accurate. It was merely made legal to be and worship as a Christian. But there were many other "legal" religions at the time. The supposition is interesting but in the......

arwen333 says "Runaway Poetic License" about Beowulf (2007)

Being an English major and knowing the storyline of Beowulf pretty well I was apalled with the outrageous poetic license the film took. I know you are suppose to enjoy film as film and literature as literature, but they may as well have called the movie "Mark". Mark could have been the hero and then expectations would not have had a certain leanings. For example in the great epic Christianity is extolled as the true connection to God and a saving force. As typical of Hollywood Christianity is defined as a religion that is stifling and destroying everything in its path. And since when did the King have sex with Grendol's mother and since when did Beowulf have sex with Grendol's mother? Since when did the King commit suicide? Well you can see I think the plot was ignorant. As far as the animation it was well done and the action was good. That's about all I can say that was good about this film....

My exboyfriend loves Kahlua and cream. So one night we decided to have a few drinks. Well he liked Kahlua 53 so well a few drinks turned into many and they kicked his but. Be judicious when drinking this enticing liquor or you'll end up with a hell of a hang over.
...
