TomW says "It makes good coffee, But..." about Cuisinart (DCC-1150) 10-Cup Coffee Maker

I nursed my Krups coffee maker for a few months after it started to periodically leak and finally decided to find a new one. I read a lot of reviews and decided one of the Cuisinarts was worth a try.

I selected the 1150 because it had a stainless steel carafe that was supposed to keep the coffee warm without running a warming plate and ending up with the burn taste if I waited an hour between cups of coffee.

The 1150 makes good, smooth tasting coffee. But here are cople gripes I have with the design.

1 - The coffee cold be hotter. I put boiling water in the carafe before brewing coffee so that it warms the carafe up a little.

2 - The plastic coffee filter holder will not stand up on its own. A small gripe but still a bit inconvenient. People who design coffee makers should see that each step is as convenient as possible.

3 - Here's my big complaint. I'm lefthanded. It is very hard to pour water in the 1150. Even righthanded the lid of the machine only lifts to 90 degrees and is in...
...

TomW says "I did a lot of research for a quick point and shoot. " about Canon PowerShot SD880 IS / Digital IXUS 870 IS Digital Camera

I have the Canon 870is 8 mega pixel camera. I was looking for a small esy to carry camera for point and shoot situations when it was not convenient to lug my Olympus DSLR around. After a lot of research on the net I decided to give this one a try. I was immediately glad I chose the Canon.

The pictures are clear, and more importantly the delay so common in digital cameras was minimal. It is certainly worth trying if these are the features you find important.

TomW says "Great Support from Escort" about Escort - Passport 8500 Radar Detector

I'm on my second Escort 8500. The first went missing when my car was stolen. I got the car back but of course the Escort was missing.

This is a great unit. One of the best features is the ability to customize the sound and display. The unit also allows you to turn off certain alerts which helps when in congested areas. The 3.5mm sound out jack is a must have for my application. I use it on my motorcyel and my cars.

I've had to use the customer service a few times and they have been very fast to respond. Also when you call Escort customer service you are calling the United States. Imagine that!

...

TomW says "Discovered this on the Net, bought one and love it." about Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper

I read about the Whirley Pop when I was investigating buying gourmet popcorn. The reviews were glowing so I bought one. Its fun to use but the biggest advantage is that it doesn't burn the popcorn.

I've had mine for over a year and am still convinced its the best way to make popcorn. By the way, I've always hated the odor of microwave popcorn. I won't let people make it in my house and hate it when people use the microwave at work to make that odorous stuff....
