StarSoldier1 says "Metal Gear Solid 4 ..... I don't need to say anything else!" about Konami - PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots

Oh ya, it returns baby! It's been a long wait after seeing all the stunning game trailers showing off the fancy visuals and talk of rumors that it might be been ported over the Xbox 360 but Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots finally arrives to the Sony Playstation 3 here. So the big question is was all the hype deserved and is this MGS a cinematic masterpiece and one of the best video games ever created or is it one over blown piece of crap with a boring story line.

So what the heck is going on here? Well, it hard to explain because this is a Metal Gear game after all and there is always something crazy going on. Anyway a few years after the events in Metal Gear Solid 2 the hero of that game: Solid Snake is still as tough as ever but he is suffering from a rapidly aging process. Since he looks an old Tom Selleck or something and there is a big worry that Snake doesn't have much time left. Snake still has some fight in him though and he is on a mission to kill his long time rival Liquid......

The June 1998 WWF King of the Ring is without question one of the most talked about Pay Per Views (or PPV for short) in Wrestling history. This tape not only has the 1998 tournament to crown the next King of the Ring but it also features some of the most outrageous matches I ever seen in the WWF (or WWE) like the vicious Hell on a Cell match between Mankind and the UnderTaker, to the funny Too Much vs. Al Snow and Head match. If you do buy this video, you'll be in for a wild 3 hours here.

The first match on this is The Headbanders & Taka Michinoku (faces) vs. Kaientai (heels). The coolest thing about this match is seeing Taka in his prime performing several high risk moves and being fairly modest. It looks like some of the shots were missed but it was a great opener that was fast paced.

Now out comes the popular female wrestler Sable in a very nice and very tight black spandex outfit.... this is reason enough to buy the video until she introduces the power hungry chairman of the WWF Vince......

StarSoldier1 says "Yup, you can eat snakes in this game!" about Konami - PS2 - Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater

Although Metal Gear Solid 2 was another huge hit for Konami, a lot of gamers including me absolutely hated the thought of some whiny wuss (Raiden) being the future star of the Metal Gear instead of the tough as nails Solid Snake. Well, it looks like Konami was listening because good old Snake returns (or is that really him) in this special prequel to all the Metal Gear games here. Instead of continuing the story after Metal Gear Solid 2 (or least try to explain what the heck was going on in that game anyway) part 3 takes place in the past to help explain some of the origins this long running series.

In the 1960's and during the height of the cold war one of Snake's mentors is meeting with a group of terrorists and he needs to investigate what they are up to. Snake must now enter restricted area all alone with no weapons or rations so again you must use stealth and the environment to survive. The big difference in this stealth/action game here is there is no radar which makes the adventure......

Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty is the big sequel to the award winning PlayStation One game (Metal Gear Solid of course). In it Solid Snake returns for yet another mission to stop some scumbags but now he's on the more powerful Playstation 2 this time around so expect some fancy visuals and better audio plus expect a few other surprises here as well.

Super soldier Snake must now investigate a boat believed to have illegal Metal Gear parts. It seems like a routine assignment but it quickly turns into world threatening situation. Just before Snake starts his latest mission the boat is suddenly attacked and taking over by highly experienced Russian Commandos, so now Snake's mission just became much more difficult. The weird thing is Snake won't be doing it alone because there is another playable character in the game but more on that later.

Just like in other Metal Gear games it is better to use stealth tactics rather then going guns blazing on the enemy since you are usually both outnumbered......

The Metal Gear games had a huge cult following but for whatever reason there would be 8 years before we see another chapter in this stealth/action series here in North America. Of course this means gamers were dying for another one and with the popularity of the Sony Playstation back in the late 1990's Konami would bring the franchise back as the new all Metal Gear Solid. Yeah, this is a cool looking 3D sequel to the old 8-bit NES stealth game that I didn't even like all that much to begin with but maybe this big budget sequel will change my mind on the series, eh?

Anyway, this game is an intelligent stealth based adventure where our rugged hero Solid Snake is back yet again and you must quickly infiltrate a dangerous area all alone believed to have nuclear weapons. It definitely won't be easy because there are six highly skilled ex-soldiers that are part of this threat. This even includes a man by the name of Liquid Snake and you have to figure out why he has the same name? Like the original...
...

StarSoldier1 says "His name is Solid Snake, there is no need for a joke there." about Ultra Games - NES - Metal Gear II: Snake's Revenge

Although the Metal Gear wasn't perfect with famous for its bad English and ‘where the heck do I go now' syndrome, the game was still very compelling and it managed to sell like crazy. So you what that means; Solid Snake from the original Nintendo hit Metal Gear is back as the giant super weapon makes it return. Snake's Revenge here is Metal Gear II and this adventure game is now filled with both overhead and new platform levels so there are a lot of big chances to the original already.

The story here begins 3 years after the events of the first game when you just received some disturbing news that a new terrorist group has their hands on a new Metal Gear unit. Now Solid Snake and two other soldiers John Turner, and Nick Myer are going in to enemy territory to investigate. Now you would think that now that there are three of you on this mission that the game would be a lot easier but they only show up in a few story lines scenes and that's it.

The good news is you actually start out with......

The Metal Gear franchise is quickly becoming one of the biggest names in the gaming industry and if you want proof of that many people are buying a Playstation 3 just to the final chapter in the series Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots. Yeah, people actually want to buy a PS3; the game is that good! Of course this gritty action stealth series had to get it's start somewhere so here's a look back on how the original game for the Nintendo Entertainment System here.

In this game you play as the marine named Solid Snake on a mission to destroy the highly advance nuclear weapon called Metal Gear. If you familiar with other early NES games from Konami like Jackal and Contra you may think you were getting another arcade style title here too at least that's what I thought back then. The strange thing about this game is when Snake lands in a dangerous jungle; he only comes with a transmitter, some cigarettes, and no weapons. To survive in this game you must carefully trek around armed guards,......

StarSoldier1 says "Geez, I think there's a new one every minute!?" about Capcom - Snes - Mega Man 7

After having a rather insane amount of games released on the old 8-bit Nintendo, Capcom ‘finally' moved their popular Mega Man series into 16-bit territory here. Unlike Mega Man X which also came out on the Super Nintendo, Mega Man 7 is a direct sequel to the classic NES series of MM games so your main character is suppose to be less intelligent robot since he has no robo-brain but he still has to fight off attacks from the evil Dr. Wily to save the world. Oh, this Mega Man also has a robodog too and all that junk. Sure the game is going to have better graphics and music since this on a 16-bit baby this time around (at least I hope so) but lets see if its enough to recommend spending some of the outrageous prices on eBay for it.

After the events in part 6 Mega Man finally caught his arch nemesis Dr. Wily and locked his crazy butt in jail. Unfortunately, Dr. Wily had a back up plan because in one of his secret labs there were 4 robots that went berserk after they couldn't find their master.......

................... Hmmm. You got to be kidding me because there are six of them! I mean holy crap! Just like Mega Man's 1 through 5; part 6 here is also on the Nintendo Entertainment System. You have to take into account that the old NES was pretty much dead when this was released (1994) and here is yet another Mega Man game? The series hasn't just jumped the shark here, it cannon balled over a shark invested freaking ocean! OK, I'll take some advice and calm down so I'll just shut up and review this game.

Mega Man 6 features yet another new enemy mastermind named Mr. X who takes control of a world robot tournament. As Mega Man you must now fight against 8 of the world's top robots before the evil Mr. X can take over the world.

Yet again nothing new or too innovative here because like the other five games this is an 2D action platformer where you shoot at robots, get new weapons, and then go after the main boss. Each of the 8 first stages has their own worldly theme like when I go after......

What the &*%#! I know I have to watch my language here but please understand I'm already up to Mega Man 5 here and surprisingly the series actually continued on the now super old Nintendo Entertainment System. I'm starting to go a little bit crazy here. This is despite all the repeated cries saying the games were getting staler then 40 year old bread. Yeah, I'll play it simply because it's Mega Man and the loved the past titles but be warned this sequel brings little new to the table.

In the fifth game of the series Mega Man's brother, Pnoto Man appears to lead an attack with 8 other robots by his side and he even kidnaps his creator Dr. Light. Now Mega Man has to fight his own brother to get some answers.

This 4 mega bit game here plays about the same as all the rest. Select from one of eight stages, shoot lame Transformer rejects, beat the boss, get their weapons, and all that junk. Yes, even the graphics look the same too since Mega Man hasn't really changed from the first game in the......

Oh ya, baby! If you seen my first three Viewpoint reviews of the original Mega Man's for the Nintendo Entertainment System here you know how much I loved those ground breaking, botty shaking, soul taking freaking awesome action games there. They were the perfect action games in my opinion. Back in 1990 I thought for sure that Mega Man 3 would be the last game for the NES and the series would continue on another more powerful gaming console but I guess Capcom had other ideas because here is Mega Man 4 on the same old machine. Of course I had to play it since there are a few new weapons and gimmicks so after blowing away the dust off my NES to see if it's any good?

In the story it finally looks like Mega Man (a.k.a. Rock) has stopped Dr. Wily and there was finally peace and all that good stuff. Since we all know it's going to happen another war breaks out anyway. Mega Man must to turn back into the Blue Bomber and now it's his job now to stop a Russian professor named Dr. Crossack and his...
...

Mega Man 2 was a huge hit for Capcom and to continue that strong momentum the third game in the series had to be something special. Mega Man returns on the Nintendo Entertainment System again and it introduces a bunch of new features to this popular platform action series to help liven things up a bit like a new side kick, moves, and even more stages but is it enough? Despite some improvements this action game honestly doesn't look that different. If it ain't broke, why fix it, eh? I can think of a hundred different reasons but here is Mega Man 3 anyway.

In the story the two rival professors Dr. Wily and Dr. Light manage to patch things up and the two agree to work a special scientific project. While this is going on though there are 8 mysterious new robots that are rampaging through the city. If that wasn't enough, Mega Man's brother Pnoto Man seems to be on the side of the evil new robots.

Mega Man must take action but now he doesn't have to go alone because he has a new Robo Dog friend......

If you saw my earlier original Mega Man review you know I'm a huge fan of that game and despite having some lousy cover artwork it sold well enough to get a sequel here on the 8-bit Nintendo. When I was a little runt I just couldn't wait to play to try this game out but it was pure torture since it took forever to finally get released in 1989. Fortunately, this heavily delayed game Mega Man 2 not only features the only major changes to the long running NES series but the game is even more action packed with bigger enemies and new exciting levels.

The reason Mega Man is back in action is because your old rival Dr. Wily wants revenge and has creates 8 super robots of his own to destroy our hero and conquer the world. So what are the big changes here in part 2? The game is still a run and gun style action game where you steal weapons, select your stage, destroy robots, and all that good stuff but now Capcom has taking out the pointless point system. No one really cared about the score...
...

The Mega Man series has been around for years and is one of the staples of this crazy industry here so I thought I would talk the awesome original that started out the whole thing on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Despite having some of the ugliest, messed up, and god awful cover artwork ever that has some lame old dude in a cheesy costume looking like he's about to take a dump (heck, I can draw better then this), the game itself was incredible with difficult but fast arcade action. See why this cool game spawned thousands of sequels (sadly, I'm not kidding either).

In Mega Man you play as a little blue robot called Rock. Rock was just a mere gofer for his creator Dr. Light but when his 6 other robots go nuts one day he decides to stop them himself and save the day. Of course that's easier said then done since this is one hard platform game. Each stage is filled with all kinds of traps and renegade robots but if you manage to make it half way or near the end and you die then you can......

Volume IV set (2000 - 2004) - 16 to 20:
This Volume set is perhaps the least desirable Anthology WM 5 disc pack because these Wrestlemanias here were already on the DVD format before. If that wasn't bad enough all these WM events here are now on no frills single discs with no cover art (mainly because some of them have content on both sides because some Wrestlemanias run over 3 hours) and all the bonus DVD features are completely gone as well. If you are not spoiled by the other WM DVD's out there then maybe you should consider this 5 disc set instead.

Wrestlemania XVI (a.k.a. WM 2000)

The main event here is a four way elimination World Title match between HHH (champion) vs. formers champs the Big Show, Mick Foley, and The Rock.

Back in the early 1990's the game Street Fighter II was an innovative one on one fighting sequel where you pick from several different brawlers from around the world and it was a huge hit for the creators (Capcom). Unfortunately, I think the success went to their heads because Capcom also made several minor upgrades to that game (like Street Fighter II Champion Edition, Super Street Fighter II, and many more) and they even made some spinoff games that basically played just like Street Fighter II. One of those lame spin offs was called Dark Stalkers and in that series you would play as a bunch of fictional monsters and other weirdoes in the typical one on one scenarios. What it lacked in originality, it made up for its cool art design and the wacky characters started to become fan favourites. There is even a Playstation Portable edition here and even though there isn't much new here, this Dark Stalkers Chronicles game is still not that bad.

If you are a Darkstalkers fan (God help you) you...
...

StarSoldier1 says "Wanna see some sweaty dudes in Hi-Res?" about Thq - Xbox 360 - WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007

One of the best selling wrestling video game series has to be those WWE Smackdown titles since they have been going strong for nearly a decade now. The popular once exclusive Playstation series finally arrives to an Xbox console (Xbox 360 to be exact) for the first time ever and it looks pretty amazing thanks to the fancy High Resolution visuals. It looks so real you'll swear you can see the actual needle marks! Let's see if WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 here worth picking up though?

If you're new to this WWE stuff you get to pick from a wide range of big sweaty dudes and underdressed dudettes like Psychosis, Triple H, King Booker, Kurt Angle, Batista, Trist Stratus, and many more Divas, Legends, and ones who now fired. Yeah, just to warn ya that Benoit guy is in this edition too since this was before all that crazy crap in the news. Anyway that's all I'll say about that subject there since it's a bit of a downer.

Just like 2006 edition you get a lot of insane modes like Career, Manager, Create-a-wrestler,......

StarSoldier1 says "Maybe the greatest demo disc ever...... >: (" about Sony - PS3 - Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

It isn't easy being a Playstation 3 owner here ya know. Although people tell me it's a powerful system and there are tons of great games for it like Rock Band, Resistance, and Grand Theft Auto 4, you can easily get most of the top tier titles already for the Xbox 360 and the exclusive titles like Ratchet and Clank Future and Heavenly Sword were just way too short. It's so strange because the original Sony Playstations 1 and 2 were awesome machines and one of the reasons for their success was because of the excellent driving series Gran Turismo. So why not have this game on the PS3 you ask, eh? After a rather long wait it finally looks like the next generation of this realistic simulation is on the PS3 in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Now before you go out and get this title I should warn you it's not the full game for some stupid reason.

I have to say I love the name Prologue there. It sounds like a new beginning for this long running series and it really fools you into thinking this is going......

StarSoldier1 says "Curse those eBay prices!" about Sega - Genesis - Phantasy Star II

Unlike several crappy sport titles out there, classic Role Playing Games are usually insanely hard to find. This really bugs me because one of my favourites for the Sega Genesis was the highly addictive Phantasy Star II. Fortunately, this game is now on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console so you can forget about buying that cartridge off some sleaze ball off eBay or something.

In the story the Algo solar system was enjoying centuries of peace and prosperity under the control of one master computer system simply known as the Mother Brain. Lately though there have been monsters and rebelling humans showing up to terrorize anyone on the three planets and it is up to you find out why. You play the role of Rolf; a young military soldier sent on this dangerous mission, fortunately your good friend Nei and 6 others wants to help you.
Phantasy Star II has several new additions to the game play like the ability to equip both the left and the right hands with weapons if you like. This is extremely useful...
...

StarSoldier1 says "Please read because I'm broke now." about Hudson Soft - Turbo Duo - Super Air Zonk

It cost me a massive 200 bucks (yes, 200 bucks!) but I finally got my greedy little hands on one of the rarest Turbo Duo games in existence. The game is Super Air Zonk and it is of course the only sequel to the big game I got my world record for (Air Zonk http://www.viewpoints.com/NEC-Turbografx-Air-Zonk-review-dd4c2 of course, just see my other Viewpoints review, eh?). I'm a very happy man! Unfortunately, I just found out the game is now out on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console for a rather small 800 points (D'oh!). Anyway so how good is this shooting game itself though?

Well, Super Air Zonk is a lot like first game because you are still controlling a flying robotic Bonk-like dude that blasts away at the futurist King Drool army before they conquer the world ‘n stuff, nothing new there. Zonk isn't alone either because you can also save one of seven new friends half way through each stage for help and extra firepower. It's cool but I don't like how you don't have the option to pick which......
