Novella says "Makes you think" about The Da Vinci Code

The Da Vinci code is a great book for anyone. This book poses intriguing questions about the early days of Christianity. I believe that the only people who would find this offensive are those who forget that it is fiction. This book is filled with action, plot twists and puzzles to solve. And given the fact that the whole book takes place in about 24 hours, it is truly amazing. This is one of my favorites. I also recommend one of Dan Brown's other books, Demons and Angels, to hjose who enjoyed this book. —...

Novella says "For chinchillas and hedgehogs" about Chins & Quills

Chins & Quills is an ideal place for new chinchilla or hedgehog owners to ask experienced owners all of their questions. Everything from the best food and toys to why breeding can be dangerous (and expensive) is explained. Newcomers are welcome to come, read posts and ask questions. This forum has a great search function and a live chat option. There are so many experienced owners here, any problem you are having can be addressed. I have learned so much since joining this community a few years ago....

Novella says "Exotic Breed, very stubborn!" about Dog Komondor

Komondorok (plural of Komondor) are a interesting dog. They were bred in Hungary to be the sole guardians of flocks of sheep. They have a white, corded (dreadlocks) coat, so as to blend in with their sheep. They were bred to think independantly. They are actually still being used today as cheap methods of guarding herds in America. — — As house pets, they can be tricky. We have one and it hasn't been easy. They are extremely stubborn. Seriously one of the most stubborn breeds. Socialization is essential at an early age or they will forever be suspicious of everyone and everything. Our dog still barks angrily at new boxes sitting on the floor, if she finds them suspicious! As puppies they are extremely energetic and friendly. As they grow up they get lazy and more suspicious and alert. They are good guard dogs. —...

Novella says "Must Own!" about Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Complete Series Collection

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the greats. It definitely will interest even those of you who are not interested in science fiction. It has great action, sweeping story lines and extremey witty dialogue. Basically the great fight of good vs evil. It is one of the few tv shows that I can rewatch over and over. All in all, I recommend the Halloween episodes best! Definitely a show to catch. —...

Novella says "Great School, for many disciplines" about University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

This school is great. I did my undergraduate degree here in the engineering program. My dept is 5th in the country and is totally worth going to central Illinois to go there. My education here helped get me into MIT for Graduate school! — — The social life is great! Especailly if you are into Frats or Sororities. The UI has the most frats and sororties of any university at last count. I never thought I would enter a sorority, but I found a great one! — — The campus is beautiful, the sports are great, and academics are outstanding. Go here! —...

Novella says "Engaging pets, but not for everyone" about Chinchilla

Chinchillas can be great pets, as long as you understand them! Though they look cute and cuddly, many are independant and would prefer to run around and on you, than to he held close! As such, they don't make good pets for young children. — — Always look for reputable breeders or rescues in your area, before the petstore. If for no other reason than financial! You can often get a pedigreed, healthy pet from a rescue or breeder for $50 versus the $120+ at your local petstore. — — One negative is that you cannot often buy a good cage for them from a local pet store. They can chew through plastic, so be wary of the common plastic bottom cages! I actually had this happen to me before I knew any better! — — Also, due to their very soft and heavy fur coat, they cannot safely be kept in temps over 75 degrees. Heatstroke can be very dangerous for them! It has been known to kill more sensitive animals in under an hour. — — Chinchillas are...

Novella says "Very good value" about Martin's Cages

I love these cages for my chinchillas. The designs do take animal safety into account. For example, I customized a cage and forgot to change the cage bar spacing to a smaller size for my chins. The company noticed and made sure that it was made appropriately. — — The wire floors can be tricky to clean, so I recommend against getting a wire floor slide out pan. It is easy for quick bedding changes, but can be very annoying to clean. The wire shelves still may get icky, but you'll have a lot easier access to clean them! — — Overall, very sturdy and safe. A much better value than almost anything you can find in a petstore. —...

Novella says "Be very wary of buying any pets from here!" about PETCO

Be very wary of buying pets here! I have visited some pretty atrocious stores in many different cities that would scare anyone who knows how to properly care for the animals they sell (and maybe some who don't)! They seem to frequently give out advice that promotes items they sell, regardless of the safety of the item to your pet. Of course, you probably wouldn't expect anything different from a large commercial chain. — — If you do find an animal you have to have, just remember to find some reliable sources of care, besides the store employees. And keep in mind, just because a product has a picture of your animal on the front, doen not mean it is really healthy for them! —...

Novella says "One of the best pets I have ever had" about Guinea Pigs

Guinea pigs have always been a part of my life and I can highly recommend them as a pet. Many people have had experiences with guinea pigs, probably mostly the type who live in a small cage and seem to have little or no personality. My advice is, get a young pig (preferably from a rescue, so many need homes!) and make sure you let him/her out for several hours a day. If you can "pig-proof" a room you can even let them be free range. I have always found that they will walk back into their cage when they need to use the restroom. — — This roaming time develops their personality so much you would not believe! I have rescued pigs from the small cage life and they are so different from the pigs that have spent most of their lives with me. — — In addition do not assume that you can get by without a vet. Guinea pigs may occasionally need to see a qualified exotic vet. — — As far as cages go, if you want a pig that can get out and explore on his own...

Novella says "Very Engaging Creatures" about rabbit

Rabbits are great fun to have around. Since they can be potty trained, they are allowed free reign of my house and act a lot like dogs! As long as they are given enough cage space/floor time and plenty of attention, they will love you forever! Some do not show their affection as much, so if you need a pet that is constantly in your lap wanting to be petted, this may not be the pet for...
