I will never forget my first adventure to Okarche (OK) from the Yukon area. My nephew decided that we needed to head to Eischens Bar for lunch. Not being a drinker, I felt compelled to ask why we would drive so far. He said very little, but insisted that it would be worth the drive. Knowing that Eischens bar was listed as historically the first registered bar/tavern in the Oklahoma territory, I found this as great interest. Especially learning that the original bar burned in the early 1900's, the revitalization of this business is amazing. Their shrine to the history of Eischens includes a rescued section of the original bar-back that was hand-carved in Italy.

Six years later, and several adventures to the same spot, I can tell you without a doubt, that Eischens bar has the BEST fried chicken and fried okra I think I have ever, EVER had! My most recent trip was completed when I had the opportunity to ask one of the staff, just how it was that they fried this...

Staples recently introduced The MailMate shredder. How brilliant! It is only the size of a (large) coffeemaker, and somewhat appears as one. It can sit easily on a kitchen counter where you open, or bring in the mail. It also can easily sit on the corner of a desk.

The beauty of the MailMate is the function. It will shred (cross cut) unopened mail, inclufing those pesky credit card offers that include the fake plastic credit cards with your name on them. It will also destroy CDs/DVD's credit cards, and papers with staples in them.

The only drawback I see, is that pages must be folded to a half sheet to fit the compact design.

Clint's Cafe is owned and run by Clint Eaves who knows how to do it right. I met Clint as we were both involved in several community events. Afer learning the restaurant is his, I felt compelled to drop in and try the fare offered.

Located in the Chisholm Center Shopping Center, the atmosphere of the cafe is casual and friendly. The staff is very personable and really caters to your comfort and enjoyment. The dishes are seasoned authentically, and are served graciously and generously. The gumbo is a must have. Whoooo Weeeeee, tasty! On Friday nights, Clint has a seafood buffet and a local songstress will strum your eardrums while you feast!

Above all else, Clint can also cater for you! What a great way to share the treat with the family or the co-workers for a party!

Don't miss it... it is a hidden jewel!

For anyone in the Canadian County area who has not had the opportunity to dine at Sophabella's, you have been missing a great dining experience.

I first dined at Sophabella's at a recommendation of a friend who had tasted their fare. She insisted that we go. I was so impressed by the total experience. The interior is so up-scale and rich. Comfortable seating, elegant, yet casual. The menu stretches from the most basic (but overly delicious) Chicago and Brick-Oven pizzas, to the freshest of salads, to the most elegant pasta dishes, steaks, and almost anything you can imagine! The staff, and chef can and will do almost anything to make your dining experience with them something to remember and even return to enjoy again!

No matter what you choose, I doubt you will be disappointed... especially if you have for dessert their signature Bread Pudding. I know that sounds so boring, but this is made with their own cinnamon rolls. It is a veritable dance for your tongue. It is...

Ok, I must admit upfront that on the EASY Button, I am so very biased. I am a Staples associate, and I ADORE the EASY Button.

Not only is it a fun gift, or party gag, but I have several Teaching professionals that have purchased them for their classrooms, or on occasion, specific students who have achieved certain milestones. I have had parents that have put them on the dishwasher for that "rare" occasion that something actually made it into the dishwasher. (LOL) And of course, we have had several purchased for bosses and office associates in all environments.

My absolute #1 top reason to love the EASY Button is this: Staples donates the proceeds of the EASY Button purchase to the Girls & Boys Clubs of America. Just to give you an idea of the impact this can have on our youth, in 2006, this donation was $1,000,000. That, my friends, helps make it "easy" for the boys and girls.

This season, they have an addtional EASY Button which has a base that is actually from a decoration...

Mustangmike says "Peanut Butter as it should be..." about Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter 16oz

I started buying Smuckers several years ago when I became a dedicated label reader. I had chosen at that time to not put into my body those things which I could not pronounce. I also had read that to reduce the fat to take a fresh jar of Smuckers, and drain the oil of the top before stirring. (hmmmm, that makes sense). This reduces the oils and fats, and reduces the need for pre-stirring each time you open the jar.

I have come to further appreciate the quality product when during the recent peanut butter recall, Smuckers Natural was one of the few which had no problems or fears of quality. I did however only find it on occasion, since it was scarce.

When I buy peanut butter, I want peanuts, not a huge list of additives, sweeteners and gums to make it pretty and creamier.

I definately recommend, if you want great quality, pure peanut butter, make it Smuckers Natural.

Mustangmike says "True love" about Dog Rescues

I have always "adopted" my fuzzy children. The most recent addition to the family is a (mostly) black Lab. I found her (Celie) through a rescue society here in Oklahoma City, and the second I saw her I knew she had to go home with me.

I am a firm believer that these wonderful animals have a certain thankfulness about them that makes them truly loving pets. I have a 15 year old Golden retriever mix (Lucy), and a seven year old orange Tabby cat (Sunny) and they all are house children and get along great. I cannot imagine not loving an animal that is already in this world.

To do my part to help reduce the numbers of homeless furry friends, I make sure that my babies are spayed or neutered as soon as it is healthy to do so. I am certain they live longer, healthier, and happier by doing so.

Oh, and I consider myself an animal lover, but never an owner. even though I accept full responsibility for their care and well being, I just feel loved...

Mustangmike says "Not all strung-out" about Booda Bone X-Large Multi-Color Rope Dog Toy

Like so many of you, I bought the Booda for my girls (2 dogs) with many things in mind.

Great for the teeth and gums
soft, to save the furniture from scratches
durable, we trim the hanging strings to keep them from being a choke hazzard
washable, we throw them in the washing machine when they get gross

I have also found that even though they may be chewed in half, leaving two knots, they generally have stayed together leaving two smaller toss toys. The drawbacks are few and small in my opinion. We have had many years of joy and safety with the Booda bones. And yes, we have replaced them on occasion! They are SO worth it.
