Mr----X says "As close to an iPhone as Verizon customers can get." about LG - Dare VX9700 Cell Phone

Many people have asked me to write a review on my phone, the LG Dare (VX9700), and I've finally found the time to. I bought this cell phone the week it came out (about 2 months ago). It seems to have caught on and I once again have a cell phone that everyone else has (my last celly was an LG VX8300, which I bought on the day it came out and then, 2 weeks later, all of New York was holding the same phone. -.-).

The Dare's touch screen integration is the foundation of the phone and it's amazing. There are only three buttons on the front of the phone: Send, Clear, and End. There are five buttons on the sides of the phone as well: Lock, Speaker, Volume Up/Down, and Camera. The rest of the phones functions are touch controlled. The menu's have nice flip animations and move smoothly as you travel through them which makes it a quick trip to whatever function you are looking for. Basically, I can access any menu on the phone in only a few seconds and, being an impatient person, this helps my stress......

Mr----X says "Classic Indiana Jones. Another great added to the collection." about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The buzz around Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been huge. Good things, bad things, all sorts of things. A lot of people were saying Harrison Ford is too old to still be as good as he was in the former three Indiana Jones movies. Well, I just got back from watching the very first showing and I'll say this: It's worthy of the Indiana Jones name.

Plot: When Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones is kidnapped by the Russian KGB, he is forced to uncover a coveted artifact on a remote Military base. After handing the artifact to the KGB, he is thrust into another adventure to try and recover the artifact and explore its origin.

This movie was classic Indiana Jones all over again. Its incredible how much it felt like the other 3. Harrison Ford was by no means too old for this, and performed incredibly well. Cate Blanchett played Russian KGB Agent Splako, and I must say she did a great job. The real surprise for me was how much I enjoyed Shia LeBeouf. I've never really liked his acting,......

Mr----X says "I'm glad I saw it and I'd jump at the chance to see it again." about Jumper

It's been a while since I've written a review. There's only been a few movies that I felt needed a review written about them to entice people to go see them. Jumper is most definitely one of those films. For about 2 weeks before Jumper came out, I had been hearing terrible things about it. Everything from lame and cheesy to bad acting and even that it was destined to be a box office flop. So when I decided to venture and check this film out for myself, I was entirely hesitant about it. I couldn't have been more surprised at how wrong all those rumors were (Well for the most part).

Plot: A genetic abnormality somehow allows a young man to teleport anywhere he wishes. As he uses his power more, he comes to realize there are others like him and also, others who wish to exterminate his kind.

I really enjoyed this movie. The backstory at the begining was perfect. Sometimes movies can do too much backstory and throw the whole plot off track. Thankfully this was not the case, it was just enough......

Mr----X says "It's like watching someone play the game with real people." about Hitman

I first heard about Hitman about a year ago while reading up on video game movies that were in the making. Immediately I was excited because I had always imagined the Hitman game to be a perfect canidate for the big screen. I was a bit skeptical though on how the final product would be. Movie studios have a tendancy to take a wonderful thing, strap a bomb to it, and blow it in tiny pieces of what it used to be. Thankfully, after viewing the movie, I can say that it met my expectations.

Plot: Agent 47, who belongs to a secret agency known only as The Organization, is hired to assassinate a political figurehead in the Russian government. When something goes wrong and The Organization turns its back on him, he must outrun assassins from his former agency and Russian secrect police, all while unravelling the mystery of his double cross.

If you didn't already know, Hitman is based on the video game of the same name by Eidos Interactive. I have played all of the games in the series and...
...

Mr----X says "Exactly what I expected to see in the latest chapter of R.E." about Resident Evil: Extinction

I've been a fan of Resident Evil since the first game came out way back in 1996. When I heard that it was finally coming to the big screen, I was extremely excited. Having seen the first two Resident Evil movies (Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse, which were actually pretty good), I had somewhat high expectations for Extinction. Thankfully, my expectations were met. Not exceeded but definitely met.

Plot: A caravan of survivors from the Raccoon City disaster travel across the Nevada desert in search of supplies and other survivors. Alice (Jovovich) hears them transmitting a radio signal and decides to join up with them. When the Umbrella Corp. stumbles upon Alice and the caravan, they try to capture her.

Extinction starts off somewhat where Apocalypse left off. They really don't give too much backstory so, if you plan on seeing this, it might be a good idea to see the first two beforehand. The acting was pretty mediocre but that's to be expected with a movie like this. It really......

Mr----X says "This movie should of been called "100 Ways to Gunfight"." about Shoot 'Em Up

Shoot 'Em Up has been on my list of "Have-to-See" movies for a while. I'm a big fan of Clive Owen and a huge fan of Paul Giamatti. When I heard that Owen was going to be in a pure action movie and that Giamatti played the bad guy, I nearly fainted. I had my doubts of course but, they were quelled during the opening scene.

Plot: Mr. Smith (Clive Owen) rescues a laboring pregnant women and delivers her baby in the midst of a shootout. When the mother is fatally shot, Smith must take on the duty of protecting the baby and finding out why the hitmen wanted the mother and child dead.

Shoot 'Em Up is a nonstop action thriller that has a very noir feel during the non gunfight scenes. The acting and characters are your typical noir type but they have a sense of humor about them. Clive Owen's character, Mr. Smith, is an expert marksman who is infuriated by the smalls things in life. For example, in one scene, a man driving ahead of him is changing lanes without using his blinker. Smith becomes enraged......

Mr----X says "A tense, heart pounding thriller that ties the trilogy together." about The Bourne Ultimatum

I just got back from seeing the very first showing of The Bourne Ultimatum. I was hesitant about how well Matt Damon would pull off a secret agent type role but, once I saw The Bourne Identity (the first in the trilogy), I was amazed and hooked. I saw The Bourne Supremacy (the second) in theaters on opening day and was totally on the edge of my seat at the very end. After seeing The Bourne Ultimatum, I'm plenty satisfied with how the trilogy ended.

Plot: Jason Bourne, continuing his mission of finding out what happened in his past, encounters newer, more skilled assassins and a government agent who will stop at nothing to silence him.

I was excited to see that Ultimatum left off directly where Supremacy ended. From the second the movie starts to the second it ends, it's pure adrenaline pumping action. The storyline flows along well with it's skillfully written plot twists and turns and, the same type of secret agent type maneuvering found in the previous movies. Whoever cast the first Bourne......

Mr----X says "1 1/2 parts Horror and 1 part Comedy = The Perfect Recipe." about Severance

I read about Severance while surfing on IMDB.com. It said that it was reminiscent of Shaun of the Dead in that it was a horror spoof type movie. I LOVED Shaun of the Dead so I had to see this one.

Plot: When a group of co-workers head to the mountains of Eastern Europe for a team building weekend, things start going wrong. Very wrong.

Sometimes in a spoof horror, the comedy overpowers the horror and it just comes off stupid. The opposite could also happen and it then just becomes a badly acted horror movie. Thankfully, Severance had the perfect balance of humor and horror. I didn't sit through the whole movie laughing but some parts made me burst out laughing. I was on the edge of my seat for a good while in the middle of the movie but, it was nicely broken up with semi humorous moments. The directing and cinematography were well done along with some great gore special effects.

Andy Nyman, Danny Dyer (Outlaw), Tobey Stevins, Babou Ceesay, Claudie Blakely, and Laura Harris are the stars of......

Mr----X says "Just for wings? I don't think so. I put it on EVERYTHING!" about Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce

Since I can remember I have been spicing up my food in some way. I have tasted about 70 different hot sauces over the years. Everything from a chipotle chile sauce that I bought while in the Bahamas to a tequila habanero sauce I ordered from Mexico. I truly love the combination of heat and flavor these sauces bring to my food.

I first found Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce at the restaurant I have been working at for 5 years. I lived by the original Frank's Red Hot, so I knew that this one was going to be good as well. When the wing sauce first hits your tongue, you can immediately taste the buttery flavor that sets this sauce apart from the original Frank's Red Hot. After a few seconds, the heat begins to come on. At first it's subtle but gradually heats up until it evens out to be about a medium hot. The real joy of this hot sauce is how much flavor it's packing and how well it can flavor your favorite foods.

It's a wing sauce so, of course, its incredible on wings. Getting a big bowl......

Mr----X says "An RPG for the Xbox 360? Yep and it's a darn good one." about Xbox 360 Enchanted Arms

Enchanted Arms, also known as [eM] in Japan, was the first RPG (role playing game) I played for the Xbox 360. I knew, when I bought my 360, that it wasn't an RPG heavy system (like Playstation 2). This upset me because I'm paying out all this cash for a new game system and my favorite type of games weren't really in the making for it. At least not at the release of the system. Finally this year though, there are 4-5 RPGs coming out for the Xbox 360 (in the holiday line up of games), all of which should be amazing.

Plot: Atsuma, an enchanter in training, is going to school at the University in Yokohama City. He's learning about the many types of man made golems that populate the world and also the 1,000 year war, that happened centuries ago, named The Golem Wars. During the Golem Wars, extremely powerful golems called Devil Golems fought each other, laying waste to everything that they touched. One day, Atsuma decided to skip school with his two best friends, Toya and Makoto. Heading over......

Mr----X says "A suspense thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat." about Vacancy

I had been hearing bad reviews on Vacancy and it made me a little upset. Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson in a horror thriller movie, how can it be bad? I tackled my suspicions and saw the movie. I laughed a few times during the beginning but as the movie progressed, I was on the edge of my seat.

Plot: When a young couple's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, they are forced to walk back to the car garage they saw on the way. They find out the garage is closed but is located conveniently next to a grungy motel. After renting a room for the night, they settle in and put a video on that was just lying on top of the VCR. What they see is a snuff film recorded in the very room they are in. They must find a way to escape before they become the stars of the next snuff film.

I won't lie. I had my suspicions about how good Luke Wilson would be in this type of movie. I dismissed Kate Beckinsale because I knew she was gonna be good, she's a fantastic actress. I'm pleasantly surprised though, at......

I had been looking for a low resource, easy-to-use screenshot program to take screenshots while I play games on my PC. I've used quite a few different programs but none of them worked that well for me. When I started playing World of Warcraft, I asked around to see what programs people were using to take screenshots of their characters. The only one people were telling me about was the program Fraps.

This nifty little program shows the FPS (frames per second) of an application and takes screenshots or movies (in real time) in those applications. It won't take screenshots of a web browser or your desktop but, It will take screenshots in movies and games (it's actually made specifically for games). Just press the assigned hot key for the action you'd like and it saves the file (automatically named and time stamped) to the Fraps folder or wherever you specify. I have been using it on a regular basis to take screenshots of the DVD's and PC games I have for my reviews. It's worked near flawlessly......

I bought this game two weeks ago and I can not stop playing it. I had been hearing great things about "the guitar game" for Playstation 2. When I found out the second in the series, Guitar Hero 2, was going to be available for the Xbox 360, I had to have it.

Guitar Hero 2 is played using a full size guitar controller included with the game disc. The notes scroll downward and, in order to play them, you must strum the pick button and hit the corresponding colored note on the neck of the guitar at the same time. At first, your mind will only want to do one or the other but, with a little practice and a lot of patience, you'll get the hang of it. If you play notes perfectly, your score multiplier will increase (up to 4x) and your Star Power meter will go up. Once your Star Power meter reaches half way, you can use the Star Power which doubles your multiplier and perform some amazing moves with the character. Eight characters are available when you first play the game: Eddie Knox, Axel Steel,......

EB Games is the only website I've ever needed for anything related to video games. This site has literally everything. Looking to buy a PS3, Xbox 360, or a Nintendo Wiii? This site has many bundles and and packages not available on any other site. They have hundreds of peripherals and quite a few different video game systems to buy including: Playstation 2, 3, and the PSP, Nintendo DS, Gamcube, and the Wii, Xbox and Xbox 360, PC, and a few others.

To go with the many systems they offer and have peripherals for, EB Games also has a huge library of new and used games to choose from.

The Invisible turned out to be well worth the money I paid to see it. I was extremely iffy about it on the ride there but I'm glad I saw it.

Plot: Nick Powell (Justin Chatwin) is a model student who people don't seem to like very much. When he has a run in with the school bully, things get rough and he is beaten to within inches of his life. The group that beats him up thinks that he's dead and leaves him in the middle of the woods. When Nick wakes up and tries to continue his daily life, he realizes that he's actually out of his living body and no one can see him. He quickly figures out that he is still alive but will die soon if he doesn't get help.

I really thought The Invisible going to be one those movies that looks good in the previews and then cops out in the theaters but it turned out to be pretty good.
Mr----X says "Thought provoking and powerful, Civic Duty shocks and awes." about Civic Duty

I hadn't heard of Civic Duty until I was surfing through IMDB.com and stumbled on it. I love "based on true life" movies so I definitely had to check this one out. I was a little disturbed by the end of the movie but, overall it was great.

Plot: Terry Allen, an account who's just been layed off, becomes obsessed with the media's portrayal of the events post 9/11 while trying to find a new job. When an Islamic college student moves into the same apartment complex as he lives and begins doing some shady things, Terry begins to suspect the student is a terrorist.

Civic Duty was one heck of a thought provoking movie. I am of Arab descent (not Muslim though) and it hit me pretty hard. I remember right after 9/11 how crazy everyone got. I've even witnessed first hand the violence that some stupid people have done to normal, non-terrorist Muslims. I understand that people were fearful at the time. Being cautious is usually a good thing but when kids are getting jumped in school for no reason other......

Mr----X says "A lighthearted comedy that's definitely worth the money." about Blades of Glory

There was quite a bit of hype leading up to this one. Ever since Old School, I've loved Will Ferrell and ever since Napolean Dynamite, I've liked Jon Heder. This seemed like a pretty good match up for a movie. I was a little put off by the PG-13 rating but it didn't seem to take away from the movie at all.

Plot: When two of the best skaters in the world of ice skating tie for a gold medal, they end up fighting on the podium and getting banned from singles competitions. When a loophole is found that will let them compete again, they must get past their differences and skate as a pairs team.

I found this movie hilarious. Will Ferrell was the perfect choice for his character and Jon Heder turned out to be a good choice for his. Ferrell really knows how to use his emotions for the best comical effect. Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jenna Fischer, Craig T. Nelson, and William Fitchner all do wonderfully and really bring their characters to life. The story is well written with some pretty good humor...
...

Mr----X says "A rollercoaster of revenge that you won't want to get off." about Crank

Ever since Jason Statham was in Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, I've been following every one of his movies. It seems he's able to better himself a little bit with every role he plays. He fits right into the action scene with his smooth martial arts and skillful gunning. I knew Crank would be amazing, and boy was it.

Plot: When professional assassin Chev Chelios finds out he was injected with a dangerous Chinese concoction of adrenaline inhibitors, he has to find a way to keep his adrenaline pumping and his heart rate up. A raging rampage of revenge is exactly what he needs to stay alive.

Crank is pure action, from start to finish. It moves fast right from the opening scene but not so fast that you don't know what's going on. Within the first 10 minutes of the movie, you are given the background of what's going on and the set up of pretty much the rest of the movie. I think this style of opening is pure genius, quick and to the point. You get character development, plot development,...
...

Mr----X says "It's Monday, now it's Wednesday, no wait, Friday... er...Sunday?" about Premonition

I've never been a huge fan of Sandra Bullock. Speed 1 and 2 were pretty good and Miss Congeniality made me wanna puke. So, I wasn't sure how this one would turn out. Now after watching it, I regret wasting my precious life minutes on Premonition.

Plot: Linda Hanson awakes to learn that her husband has just been in a fatal car accident. The following morning she wakes up to see that her husband is in bed with her, alive and well. The following days continue on this pattern up until the actual day of his death.

As you can see, the plot itself is a bit confusing to even read. Sadly, I found myself confused throughout the whole movie. Even the ending left me with questions. The acting was average at best and it seems like Sandra Bullock is losing her edge as some of the other bigger stars are now (Willis, Clooney, in opinion at least). Maybe it's the lack of directing that held her back but something just didn't feel right. Julian McMahon played the dead/alive husband. His acting was also average...
...

Mr----X says "Is the number 23 really all around us?" about The Number 23

I had heard terrible things about The Number 23. Confusing ending, bad acting, dumb basis for a movie, and many, many other things. Being a true movie enthusiast, I had to see it just to cure my curiosity of why people gave it such bad reviews. After viewing the film, I'm delightfully surprised.

Plot: Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey) finds a book that he seems to think is written about him. As he continues reading the book, more and more similarities arise all dealing with the number 23.

Before I get into the philosophy of this movie, I'll start with the basics. The acting was great and I thought Jim Carrey acted refreshingly well for being in a movie thats so different from his past hits. I was nervous at the fact that he was playing such a psychologically unwell character in a psychological thriller movie. His acting is what determines how the movie will flow and ultimately how good it will be. Of course, there are other factors that go into how good a movie is but, in my opinion, acting makes...
...
