Lisisme says "I dare you to walk in the middle ... " about The Sky Walk

My daughter and I took a road trip a few months ago from Los Angeles, California to Galveston Texas and put the newly opened Sky Walk in Arizona on our itinerary. — At that time (and maybe even now) there were no signs after we left the Hoover Dam to show the way. The roads to get there were secondary and desert dirt trails not shown on our new Garmin navigator. We used our cell phones to call Tonia's fiancé in Canada who would get on Google Maps at work and talk us along. — You have to use a town road - a desert dirt trail - to get to the newly asphalted Tribal road which takes you to the Sky Walk parking area. The road belonging to the town is cut deep in the desert sand. It was sunken 3 feet below ground level. It had sharp rock sticking out the sides and up from the bed of the road ready to rip your tire(s) open. It had no shoulder to pull over onto. It is one lane with hazardous blind curves and maniacal drivers coming the other way at absurd speeds in...

Lisisme says "When in Rome ... visit San Paolo!" about San Paolo fuori le Mura - Rome, Italy

Most everyone who comes to Rome wants to see Saint Peter's Cathedral at The Vatican. Take a bus or taxi or subway and walk across St. Peter's Square, designed by the famous Baroque sculptor Bernini, and then explore the Cathedral for as long as you like - along with hundreds of other tourists at the same time. Ugh. Not exactly an ideal situation for meditation and contemplation! — But here is a sacred place you can go in Rome to commune with architectural majesty (and the 88 granite columns) and the silence of centuries. — Take a bus or a taxi or a metro to San Paolo fuori le Mura. It's a cathedral and also a 'quartiere' (quarter). Ask directions of a native (say "San Paolo" and shrug your shoulders with your hands palms up - the universal "I can't find it" gesture) to the Cathedral of San Paolo which is only a couple of blocks from the subway stop. — As you arrive you will see a fabulous gold mosaic facade reflecting the sunlight, a gigantic sculpture of Saint Paul...

Lisisme says "When in Rome ... Ostia Necropoli"" about Ostia Necropoli - Rome

Some readers have asked that I review places in Rome, since I live here, so I am going to start writing about places which are 'off the beaten track' or which you would enjoy if a native showed them to you. I will call these "When in Rome ... (name) ". — My first secret place is "Ostia Necropoli". Ostia Necropoli is very near Fiumicino airport. You need to have a rental car or a friend in Rome in order to get to this hidden spot. — Ostia Antica is the ruins of the ancient city of Ostia, which was the ancient port of Rome. It is located near the Fiumicino airport also. Ostia Antica is more incredible than Pompeii. It is a huge park of ruins with beautiful lawns and trees and a bar/restaurant. It's lovely to go to even in the heat of summer but you need a car (or tour) to get there. — BUT no one knows about Ostia Necropoli! Ostia Necropoli was the cemetery for ancient Ostia. It is now a gorgeous 4 acre park with the mosaic decorated tombs above ground....

Lisisme says "Great product - lousy assembly instructions" about Meliconi - Flat 3 TV Wall Mount

I just bought the Meliconi Flat TV wall mount system called "Space System Flat 3". It cost over $350.00. The Italian Meliconi wall (and table) mounting systems for flat screen TVs ( http://www.meliconi.it ) are expensive, very stylish and innovative and work perfectly IF you can figure out how to put them together. The schematics and instructions are the worst I have ever seen. They have no Web pages available with assembly instructions that I could find. I called them in Italy (39-051-763341) and they were not helpful. In fact, they could have cared less that their assembly instructions are useless and I was not happy. I don't know how they can expect to sell an otherwise excellent product to the world at large when they offer no assistance and they don't have a clue how to draw assembly schematics. Maybe they should ask Ikea how they have managed to do it so...
