JayeKing says "so far... so good" about Geico

I had to change insurance when I moved to the Bronx, and was really worried about my rates. Geico charged me less for comprehensive coverage on a brand new car in the Bronx than I was paying for an older car in a rural area.
The only time we've had to use the insurance was for a cracked windshield - they made all of the arrangements for the replacement and everything went smoothly. I can't complain!
...

JayeKing says "Easy easy easy! " about Maxi Cosi Mico

After reading many many reviews online and seeing many car seats in person, I was excited to learn that Maxi Cosi was approved to sell their Mico (or Cabrio, as its called in Europe) in the United States just before my daughter was born. I actually almost had a friend who was travelling in France smuggle one back with her for me! While the European version comes in more colors, I can't complain at all about the car seat as far as design, fit and function.

I have used the car seat with and without the base - with the base (and the latch system) for everyday use in our Prius, but we also tried it without the base using the seatbelt in my mom's Honda CRV, and it was just as stable and almost as easy to install (it took 2 people in the CRV, but it has a funky middle seat belt and probably would be much simpler with an ordinary shoulder/lap belt). Installation in the base is very easy - just drop the seat in and make sure it clicks in!

We got the car seat in Juice, and the fabric...
...

JayeKing says "Best pocket diapers around" about Snap-EZ Cloth Diapers Diapers

Since both my husband and I are in graduate school, money is tight and we decided to go the cloth diaper route for our daughter. While the initial expense is scary (a couple hundred dollars for enough diapers to only have to do laundry every other day), in the end you save a lot of dough by going cloth. We also made a point of asking for cloth diapers as gifts from friends & relatives. I have tried several brands of cloth diapers and these are by far the best as far as fit, ease of use, and quality. They will definitely last through several more kids - I have been using them for 3 months now and they still look brand new even though they're being washed 3-4x a week! Also, they use snaps instead of velcro which is definitely a plus - the velcro tends to pull and snag in the laundry, even if you use your velcro tabs. They also offer great color and print combinations - so they're cute as well as functional! And the website has an overstock/bargains page if you're not picky about colors....
...

JayeKing says "Goes where no other parenting magazine goes..." about Mothering

I friend gave me a subscription to Mothering when my daughter was born and this has fast become my favorite parenting magazine. Mothering advocates for the best for our children without succumbing to the commercialism that other parenting magazines do - the Best Toys of the Year were all environmentally sustainable (and none were toxic for our kids!). This magazine speaks to those of us trying to raise kids to appreciate the important things in life - love, family, dignity, and respect for oneself and others and the earth. I appreciate that!

Also, you can get an electronic subscription. Less money and saves trees!
...

JayeKing says "cadillac of strollers - love it" about Quinny Buzz Stroller - Capri

I bought this stroller because I wanted to own ONE stroller, not two or three like all my friends. The large rear wheels are air filled, roll smoothly, and handle varied terrain with no problem - I live in the Bronx, but take the stroller to the barn, through grass and shallow snow, and for walks on dirt roads without any issues. I have the bassinet and the car seat as well, and changing among the various components is simple. My only real complaint is that while unfolding the stroller is easy - it unfolds itself with a little tug - folding it down takes 2 hands, and requires some strength when the weather is cold. Also, the stroller takes up almost the entire trunk in our car, but we own a Prius, so maybe that isn't a fair complaint. :-)
...
