EricasPOV says "You might not know just how funny these guys are (and British)!" about A Bit of Fry and Laurie

I first got the full DVD set of "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" from the local library, but then I had to buy it so I could watch it over and over and share it with my sister, who also loves British comedy. I don't think enough people know about this impeccable and outrageous comedy duo. This is great sketch comedy in the tradition of Monty Python, and even old school SNL. It runs the gamut from musical oddities to Fry and Laurie on the street dressed as women being interviewed for the local news. Much like my beloved Eddie Izzard, and other great duos like the Little Britain guys, Fry and Laurie's hilarity bears re-watching, and you can easily find yourself quoting the characters and cracking up when you're not even in front of the TV. This is comedy for people who enjoy the off-kilter and odd. Highlights include Hugh Laurie showing off his musical chops, playing the piano or guitar and singing a zany tune, as well as Stephen Fry as a hard-rocking priest, or a toothless hick. Give it a try!
...

EricasPOV says "A city like no other!" about Venice

I got to Venice after a number of other European cities armed with a Eurailpass and only a few bags. The trip into the city was amazing, as gondoliers glided past the train. Most of the time my sister and I were in Venice it poured. I was in a foul mood from travel and bad weather, but I'm so glad I made it to Venice. It is so special. I recall walking the tiny streets, over little bridges, winding around waterways, people selling knock-off luggage and bags on the streets, eating gelato, looking at the gilded walls of old churches. I would recommend the Peggy Guggenheim collection and a trip to Murano, the home of gorgeous Venetian glass. The taxi boats are one of the craziest things I've ever seen, and add to the surreal quality of Venice. I wish I could recall the name of the restaurant where I had a huge plate of linguini bathed in squid ink. It may sound gross, but it was one of the most memorable meals of my life, and remarkably delicious. No Italian trip is complete without a...
...

EricasPOV says "Eddie Izzard is the greatest comedian of our time!" about Eddie Izzard - Glorious

Oh my goodness, Eddie Izzard has given me more joy than I can probably properly put into words. First off, I should establish that I am a total anglophile and I love all manner of British things. Yes he's a transvestite, but don't be put off by his appearance. He is intelligent, so bloody intelligent, and he weaves history, religion, philosophy, and myth into his comedy. It's very off the cuff and improvisational. I love that Eddie isn't harsh or mean in his humor, although he is blatantly liberal minded, so be warned! I have no problem with that myself, and if you don't either definitely give Eddie a chance. He is culturally and politically critical but in a hilarious way...he opens one's eyes to double standards and injustices while making you laugh till your sides hurt. I wouldn't just recommend Glorious, but every DVD or CD or video Eddie has put out. Unfortunately some of his material is not available in America, but find whatever you can on Youtube. I've also seen him live and would...
...

EricasPOV says "DCC is a great place to start, or re-start, your education. " about Dutchess Community College

I came to Dutchess Community College after a near disastrous freshman year at a tiny liberal arts college. I did not feel high school had prepared me for the rigors of academia, but Dutchess allowed me to flex my education muscles and get ready to complete my Bachelor's elsewhere. I had wonderful, supportive teachers who had time for me, whereas I felt the proffesors at the first school were snobby and unavailable. Dutchess has the kinds of classes that can help ease the transition to college, but also very stimulating and advanced courses as well. I didn't feel at all cheated, and loved courses in Poetry, Social Injustice, Writing, and Photography. I also knocked out some prerequisites I would need for my Bachelor's Degree. The administration, career counselors, and faculty were supporitve and very easy to reach. Coming out of high school I recall a lot of naysayers looking down on Dutchess, but I think it offers a terrific opportunity to see what college has to offer and try new things,...
...

EricasPOV says "Marist has phenomenal teachers and great financial assistance"" about Marist College

For the most part I had a great experience at Marist College. I enjoyed small classes, enthusiastic discussions, and wonderful teachers, all with the benefit of a great scholarship and a lot of flexibility as an adult student. As an adult student I was able to tailor a degree to my interests and it allowed me to utilize all my previous coursework at other schools. The faculty and administration were helpful and supportive and I still feel comfortable going back to Marist for help with resume writing and other job search issues. Marist also features a variety of clubs and groups to fit a number of interests. Although it sometimes get's the reputation of a sports school, I found that Marist can be what you want it to be. Since I was there to study what interested me, like Film, Women's Studies, Literature, and History, I found interesting and stimulating classes in those areas and my academic leanings were perfectly fulfilled. Just as importantly I was able to study part-time while working,...
...
