AlabamaGal says "A tried and true diaper rash remedy" about Desitin Diaper Rash Cream

We rarely have diaper rash in this house, but when we do, a little Desitin clears it up overnight. What else can I say, really?
...

AlabamaGal says "Our favorite diapers." about Goodmama One-Size Fitted Diaper

After trying some other "easy" cloth diaper systems, we purchased some Goodmama fitteds and haven't looked back. They are very absorbent, clean up beautifully, fit great and are just all around good workhorses. We had leaks with some other diapers but have never ever had a leak with a Goodmama.
...

AlabamaGal says "Not worth it." about Playtex Diaper Genie II

I purchased the Diaper Genie II in preparation for my third child, hoping I would like it better than my earlier Diaper Genie. Nope. It's still a lot of trouble to use, and plastic holds odors no matter what you do. I'm now using individual bags for soiled diapers and switching to a stainless steel garbage can that won't hold odors.
...

AlabamaGal says "Mom's favorite toy, hands down." about Fisher-Price Geo-Trax Train system

We received the GeoTrax station as a Christmas gift, and it is this mom's favorite toy. It plays on many levels: as a puzzle (snap the train tracks together to form a continuous loop), as a remote control train, and as a dollhouse. The plastic tracks can be snapped together by a toddler, and so far we have had zero breakage after more than a year of play. I give away most of the toys we receive for Christmas (after a short period of use and after the kids get tired of them) because we have so many, but the GeoTrax are keepers.
...

AlabamaGal says "Only for babies with big thighs." about Fuzzi Bunz Pocket Diapers

We tried Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers for a few weeks but experienced too many leaks to stick with them. These are well made and a good budget buy because everything you need is included (no need to buy covers separately), and they are easy to use. However, the leg openings are rather wide and the waist opening rather small, so if your baby is more lean-and-mean than chunky monkey, these might not work for you.
...

AlabamaGal says "Fashionable slings for hip mamas." about HotSlings Stretch Baby Sling/Wrap

Hotslings pouches are beautiful, simple, and surprisingly comfortable. They work from birth through toddlerhood, too, unlike the ugly and more expensive frontpacks they often compete with. Don't let the simplicity of design fool you into thinking it doesn't work, or that something with clips and straps would be better ... Hotslings pouches are quite comfortable and utilitarian. They fold down small enough to easily stash in a diaper bag, and they work for carrying a baby on your front, hip, or (with a baby with head and torso control) back. I remember getting admiring comments at a fast food restaurant (don't tell anyone) when I was carrying my baby on my hip to order, then simply (and quickly) scooted him around to my back to take my tray to the table. The only downside is that they are fitted, and they must be sized properly to be comfortable for the mom (or dad) and baby.
...

AlabamaGal says "Cute pictures but terrible information." about Andrea Cornell Sarvady - Baby-gami: Baby Wrapping For Beginners Books

As a seasoned babywearer and leader of a babywearing group, I was hoping to find in the babywearing section of this book some simple baby wrapping techniques that I could share with friends by giving this book as a shower gift. Unfortunately, the babywearing section is bad enough that I simply cannot give the book as a gift.

The instructions for the "front sling," "back sling," "office sling," "‘your ad here' sling," "french sling," and "housework sling" are all fatally flawed because they say that these "slings" can be accomplished with 5 to 6 feet of fabric. No one - NO ONE - can accomplish these "slings" with that little fabric ... not even my 5-year-old daughter could carry a baby doll with that little fabric. I'm an average size 8 and need at least 4.1 meters of fabric for these tying positions ... and I can get away with 4.1 meters because I'm a seasoned wrapper and am skilled at getting the fabric tight; beginner wrappers my size usually prefer even more length to work with. Also,...
...

AlabamaGal says "An excellent baby carrier from birth through toddlerhood!" about Kozy Carrier

The Kozy Carrier is a mei tai, or Asian-inspired, baby carrier that's perfect for Western sensibilities. It helps a parent comfortably carry a baby from birth through toddlerhood, on front, hip, or back. It's easy to use ... just tie the straps! It comes in a variety of stylish (or utilitarian) fabric choices. It's vastly superior to frontpacks in terms of comfort, value, and style, but it's not as well known because it hasn't made it into the big box stores ... yet. Its shoulder straps are almost twice as wide and almost twice as thick (in terms of good padding) as frontpacks, so they are vastly more comfortable, and it also offers lower back support.
...

AlabamaGal says "My go-to shoes! They run half a size big, though." about Privo Comice Slip On for Women

I love my Privos! They're cute and comfortable. I wear them practically every day. I didn't care for the nubby insole, however, so I just slipped foam insoles, and they're perfect. Another plus is that they have very subtle light-reflective striping, so they were great for trick-or-treat. ...

AlabamaGal says "Not good value for money because baby outgrows it so fast" about Babybjorn Original Baby Carrier

The best attribute of the Baby Bjorn is that it is widely available in big box stores. I do not recommend it, however, because it is very expensive for a product that is of much more limited utility than other baby carriers. The standard version without lumbar support puts all the baby's weight on the adult's upper back and gets uncomfortable at a much lower weight than baby carriers with waist straps or padded waist belts....
