IKEA Poang Chair
My husband "Pal" and I have a complete record with the popular Ikea Poang Chair. We purchased our first at Ikea, another (with the footstool) at Goodwill, and pulled in two off the street. They have circulated from room to room and always said "Welcome" to anyone entering the room. Judged by looks only, the Poang is positively seductive.
The Ikea Poang provides comfort and support from the first sitdown. It is not however the chair for a full evening's sit watching TV nor is it the ideal chair for a long read by the fire in the livingroom. Fact is, it's not truly supportive in a way that...

Frigidaire Ultra Quiet Dishwasher
We have had a few dishwashers through the years, and have always been frustrated with something about all of them-especially how short their "lifespan" was. A couple years ago our dishwasher went bonkers in the midst of a time when we were doing a great deal of entertaining for the holidays, and really needed our dishwasher. So we went to Lowes and got this Frigidaire Ultra Quiet, and had an "emergency" installation done. My bedroom door is merely feet from where the dishwasher is installed in the kitchen, soI'm very grateful that it is quiet enough that I don't even know that it is running. ...
review »CROCK POT 37601 6-Quart Slow Cooker
Another exploding lid story on this one. For my FIRST use with this crock, I had a big roast, so I stuffed it into the 6 quart pot and had no room for liquid. So I ran it on high for 6 hours (which is the longest the electric timer allows you) without liquid and after the first 6 hours it was already smoking and a little charred on the outside. So I reset it for an additional 6 hours on high, and near the end of this cycle I watched amazed as this thing billowed black smoke throughout my house. It seemed to be burning the roast, so after the second 6 hour cycle, I reset the timer for only 4 hours...
review »Black & Decker rice cooker unsure
I was pretty green back in college about rice-my only experience with rice was Minute Rice, or the like. My Asian friend had a Black & Decker rice cooker, and cooked rice religiously, only with her Black and Decker rice cooker. I learned how tasty and healthy rice can and should be! It was clumped, and tasted so good, that I often ate it plain, as she did. I would just put it in the rice cooker with the appropriate amount of water, and eat it with nothing on it, or maybe some butter or simple spices. It was a staple for me, and even today, years later, I will not have rice any other...
review »CROCK POT 3 Setting Crock Pot
a crock pot is the trade name for a slow cooker that was developed by rival industries and is an electrical kitchen appliance used primarily for cooking stews and other dishes that require long cooking time with water at fairly low temperatures. through usage and misusage the name slow cooker and crock pot have become interchangeable in recent years.
Crock pots are either round or oval and come in a wide variety of sizes. They are made of removable glazed ceramic or porcelain which serve as the crock pots' cooking chambers. These cooking chambers are set within metal casings that contain thermostatically...
review »Cuisinart Automatic Grind & Brew
I was skeptical when we got the Cuisinart Automatic Grind and Brew, because small kitchen appliances often have problems working properly, in my experience, when they have multiple functions. So far, I have been proved wrong with this appliance. It grinds well, and in a brief amount of time. It is easy to clean-the parts are easy to take out and re-insert as needed. It is user-friendly for the guests at our house, when we leave them to fend for themselves for their morning coffee. I am a coffee connoisseur, and appreciate that it does nothing to compromise the flavor of the most expensive...
review »Jack Lalanne Power Juicer
for one thing the rotor blade of jack lalanne juicer made of surgical quality stainless steel seems impressive for the work it does. the motor works quiety while the blade squeezes out juices in quantities that are 30% more than other juicers. thats why in the end you have pulps that are drier ready to be made into cookies or even fertilizers etc. from users opinions gathered you have to be careful about stressing the motor with too much hard fruits and vegetables. its best to use a combination of soft and hard in successions to get the maximum squeeze performance. be quick about cleaning right...
review »Kenmore Elite Dishwasher
For years, my old dishwasher sounded like a hurricane that would reverberate in the kitchen, the family room, and even the basement. After recently remodeling my home, we installed the Kenmore Elite dishwasher. And the difference is enormous. This dishwasher is so quiet; I can watch television in the family room without having the volume at full blast. The only annoying thing is if you turn the "alert" option on for when the dishes are done, the machine will beep incessantly until you get up and open the dishwasher. So I would recommend turning it off because it's very annoying when,...
review »Kilz Paint
I hesitated to buy any Kilz products for a long time thinking there was a lot of hype placed on this product. You know, wanting more money for something that doesn't really work. Well, I just happened to be in Wal-Mart when they had a sale on the paint. I bought some thinking that I would give it a try, not really thinking it would work. I had some red walls that needed covering and I thought that this would be a great test to see how it would work! If it covers my red in one coat I was going to be sold on this product! Low and behold I started painting and it actually covered the red in one coat!...
review »Walgreen's, Petco, Team Santa, etc. Santa Claus Hats
Every Christmas season for the past five years, I've photographed students and friends posed in a variety of Santa Hats. This year, I hung up some of my Walgreen's Santa Hats over the fireplace where our stockings usually go. You can see my starters above. I may rearrange them and add the stockings as well.
In the meantime, it occurs to me that with an additional strong loop, each Walgreen's Santa Hat might contain just the right amount of small items representing the smaller amounts the current recession has demanded of a lot of us.
In any case, my favorite hat is the one on the far left...
