Prozac is great for depression!!

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I went to my doctors with OCD/Depression and after trying several others, they decided to try me on prozac. I think it works great with Depression and some with OCD. It makes you feel happy on the depression side but does little for the ocd side! I have been on it for years now and have noticed very little relief in the ocd. I take 5 20mg pills a day totaling 150mg. It does make me very sleepy and I sleep a lot! I think it might be the high dosage I am on regarding the tiredness! You don't have to take it with food or anything and I can take it with other medicines. I have notice though it does lose effect when taken with other medicines and the ocd does get worse. Other then the tiredness I have really have not had any side effects so far with it and like I said I have been taking it for years. They might have to adjust your doseage because it does tend to get settled in your system and not work as well. Other then those it helps me get through the day.

Life Is Too Short To Not Live It To The Fullest

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I lost my second grandchild in a 2 year period and really had a difficult time dealing with it all. I finally opted to go on this medication Prozac as my anxiety was so severe I couldn't sleep, function, mind stop, etc. After 3 weeks of mild side effects I really had some relief and kinda felt somewhat a little normal again. After 4 months of being on this medication however, my sexual function went from always desirable to none and not being able to sexually function anymore, enough to take myself off this. I am now on my 3rd week of going off this medication and I have to say it has been pure hell!!! I have been so tired and my muscles are so dang weak. I feel like somewhat beat my whole body up. Although I feel like this medication really helped me at such a trying time in my life, I would not recommend anyone to have to go on this medication. It is too much hell to go through to get off it!!

Prozac worked wonders for me

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I had been going through an extremely rough patch in my life which almost cost me my marriage. After talking to a therapist, he suggested I give Prozac a try. I was never a person who believed that "happy pills" would actually change my mood and my life, but I decided to give it a try, seeing as I was desperate for a change at that point. I didn't really notice any difference at first, but two weeks into taking Prozac it seemed like something clicked inside of me. I was no longer crying at the drop of a hat, I didn't argue with my spouse anymore, and I felt 100% happier and more confidence in myself... so much so that I was interested in my old hobbies again and I even decided to go back to ...

Don't pay more for the same result!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I have been suffering from depression for many years and I thought that life was always going to be like that. After I started taking a generic brand of Prozac called Fluoxetine my eyes opened and I felt as if a weight had been lifted. I no longer feel as though I'm trying to survive life. I am actually living life now! I enjoy the little things again. Simple things. I rarely find myself saying, "What's the point?" I had my doubts in the beginning. I didn't think it was working, because I hadn't given it enough time. I never wanted to become reliant on a pill to make me happier. It just felt like I was cheating somehow. I did a little research and found that it wasn't something that I was or wasn't doing. It was a chemical thing inside of me. My body wasn't doing what it was supposed to be doing. I asked myself, "If you were sick, wouldn't you take medicine to get better?" Well, that was enough for me!

If it weren't for Prozac I would probably be in an insane asylum

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I have been on Prozac for approximately one year. I take it because I suffer from severe depression. My doctor has high expectations for this medicine in regards to it helping me cope with my illness. I use to be on Zoloft which when I began taking that medicine it worked but as I got it into my system I was on the highest dose and it was not working. I just got more depressed and more isolated. When I first heard my doctor was going to put me on Prozac I had some serious doubts and concerns about it because my mother had taken it years ago when it first was put on the market and she became severely abusive and I believe if she wouldn't have stopped taking it she wou...

It's great if you like to feel bipolar!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I'll just go right out and say it, I hated being on this drug. I have clinical depression, and have tried other antidepressants before Prozac, and this one was the worst. I have several reasons for this. First of all, the pill was huge. I have a small throat and a trigger from my childhood.. I cannot take large pills. After breaking open the slimy casing, I found a powder inside, of which I would stir into orange juice. It tasted terrible. The real problem came when I started to take it on a regular basis. I would have terrible mood swings, but not just any mood swings -- I would get really angry, then really sad, then I would just not feel anything at all. I would also get random pains in my arms, legs, and back, especially while not doing anything, just laying on the couch or whatever.

One of my friends is on Prozac with no results as well, though she doesn't get the mood swings, just the random pains.

Best Antidepressant EVER!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I have been taking Prozac of and on for several years. I just recently got back on Prozac after going through an awful depression. After just 4 days, I could tell a big difference in my mood! I was actually happy again, laughing, and getting along so much better with my boyfriend and family! Yes, my problems are still here just as before, however, I don't feel as hopeless as I did before and I can actually sleep well and face my day much better now! I truely believe that people with a chemical imbalance (which I know I have because depression runs in my family) can benefit from an anti-depressant. It is just a matter of finding the right one for you. For me, it is Prozac!

It may not work for some people but for me, its a must.

Overall

I take the generic brand of this medication (fluoxetine), and there is no way I could miss a day without taking it. I started taking this medication about seven years ago, and in all honesty, if I hadn't taken it, I would be one messed up women. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Attention Deficite Disorder, depression, lots of stress and panic attacks, and this medication works wonders for me, I have heard stories from other users saying that it does not do anything for them, and that it even makes them worse, but it all comes down to what medicine is right for you. And if it the right medicine, it works. I have gone one day without taking my medicine and I have been able to tell the difference. Also, it is a non habit forming drug. Non- narcotic, so it is pretty safe. My doctor has tried to switch me to different medicines like this one, and they have done no good for me. I love this medicine.

Prozac helped me conquer my anxiety.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

This is a difficult review to write. Although we have come a long way in understanding mental disorders, I still feel uncomfortable talking about my anxiety disorder. Then again, not talking about it makes it seem shameful when it is not. A lot has been written about the drug Prozac, both good and bad. I am weighing in on the good side. Since being diagnosed with anxiety disorder and prescribed Prozac ten years ago, I have to say the Prozac has really helped me especially with obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD). The OCD was overwhelming until the Prozac kicked in. Although Prozac is labeled an anti-depressant, it can also help with anxiety and related disorders. I have not had any side effects except drowsiness. It should be noted this drug is not a cure-all, and I also take the drug Buspar. Although Prozac is not for everybody, it should be considered for anxiety as well as depression.

Even with high doses, Prozac gives little affect.

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

I used Prozac for a while when I was in middle school to treat depression. The three or four months I was on it produced only a slim improvment. Instead of wantng to sleep all the time I was feeling more alert and less distraction. however that was pretty mcuh as far as the positive went.                                                                    &nb...

Would never take again, ever!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I started on this after the birth of my second daughter. I had postpartum psychosis, which is where you actually go crazy. It was depression and voices and insanity and HORRIBLE! I had no reality at that point, and this is what my doc put me on. Within days of starting it, I was so tired that I couldn't get out of bed. I would have terrible dreams whenever I tried to sleep, but would sleep for 18+ hours a day. I alternated between nauseaus and ravenous, so would eat like a pig, feel sick, then go to bed. I gained 20 pounds in a month, and became terrible person as well. I had no conscience, felt no emotions, my baby would cry and I would not care! I'd stay in bed and let her cry. It stopped ...

So confused

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I have panic attacks and went to the doctor. He prescribed prozac. The first hour after i took 5mg i had a panic attack. He told me to take zanax. I was sleepy, the whole day and feeling drowsy. Second day better, but had 2 panic attacks. Third day felt fine during the day, but at night woke up having a panic attack, severe one, was shaking for 40 min, took the zanax again and slept the whole day. Today is my forth day, feeling sleepy, nervous, i dont know if i should continue talking this drog or stop. Has anyone experience this and how long this will take to get used to the drug, if ever. Thanks.

It works, but not for everyone.

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

Antidepressants are tricky medicines.  They effect each person differenty, and so it is hard to give a recommendation on a prescription drug that works for me, because it may not work for you.  My experience with Prozac has been a good one, though.  I have tried two other antidepressants.  They were either ineffective, or they had horrendous withdrawal effects when I came off of them.  I have been off and on of Prozac because of pregnancy/etc and I have not had any horrible withdrawal side effects from this drug.  It works very well for me and I haven't really noticed any side effects.  Just keep in mind though, that what is typical for one person may not h...

Prozac was not the anti-depressant for me

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

My first anti-depressant was Prozac.   At the time, I had been dealing with serious depression for about three years and was suicidal.  I would like to say that the medication turned my life around and I've never had problems with depression ever since.  But that wasn't the case for me.  I experienced some serious side effects from the Prozac, the worst being increased anxiety, depression, and insomnia.  Since I was only on Prozac for a month, it is impossible to say if the side effects would have subsided or if my depression would have lessened had I kept taking it.  However, I do know that the anti-depressant I switched to (citalopram) effectively dealt w...

I've used Prozac for over 10 years

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I've used Prozac for over 10 years now, and would say it's a pretty good medication.  It has definitely helped with my depression.  When I first started taking it, I noticed a huge difference.  I felt happy for the first time in years.  I take 60mg a day, at nightime.  The one down side is that it gave me some really bad insomnia.  I didn't sleep for the first five days I took it.  But when I contacted my doctor, she prescribed a sleeping aid, which works just fine.  I think that Prozac has helped maintain my mood over the years.  I have thought of quitting, but I really don't want to return to the depression that I had before I started taking Pro...
