poetry.com Review Summary

Our reviewers are disappointed in poetry.com. They say that the site takes their money to publish their poetry then sells an anthology to them which very few people buy except those published in it. They promise contests and awards but none of our reviewers ever won anything and the site spams their inboxes with offers to "help them become successful poets" - for a price of course. Our reviewers even go so far as to call poetry.com a scam site. Beware and do your homework before sending any money or poetry to this site. It's basically a "vanity publishing" site where you pay to see your work in print.

Do you like to express your feelings on paper? I find it very helpful to pour my heart and soul into my poetry and then I found a site that I could post them on. The site is poetry.com, not only do you get recognized for your work, you could also win cash prizes.

I have been posting poetry there for...

I am sure there are some good aspects to poetry.com, but it is hard to find them among all the junk mail and spam. Everyone who submits to them receives mailings telling the writer how wonderful they are and promising all kinds of great awards and honors all of which cost money.  if you want to see...

Poetry.com offers free things like e-cards as well as free poetry contests, however, there are all sorts of pitfalls for the beginning poet, also, such as the book, the plaque, and the poet's conference. My poetry has been in volumes, has been read at the conference, and has been on plaques that people who took in a lot of money from it paid for. If you are profiting from your own or other people's poetry, buy the book, and write it off as a business expense. If you are not making a living from your own or other people's writing, then, don't buy the book.

My so-called literary agent has purchased...

Poetry.com is nothing but a scam.  It is a disgrace that a compay like this has not been fined by the goverment for ripping people off.  My daughter wrote a great poem when she was only 8 years old.  Unfortunally I did not do my homework and research this company and I foolishly sent them money to have my daughter's poem published.  I was told that she was picked to be on the publisher's top ten poem of the year and had a chance of winning the grand prize.  I sent them the money and never received the book that I ordered.  I wrote to them and never received any correspondence back except... review »

This website is probably the most well-known scam website. I mean, you could send in a blank page as your poem and a few weeks later you would get a letter in the mail saying you were chosen as a semi-finalist, and that your poem was being published in some book that you should buy for only $49.99 or something. The website lookes legit, but trust me, it's not. Poetry.com just exploits real talent. Do not use this website, it is a waste of time.
