I am sure there are some good aspects to poetry.com, but it is hard to find them among all the junk mail and spam. Everyone who submits to them receives mailings telling the writer how wonderful they are and promising all kinds of great awards and honors all of which cost money. if you want to see your name in print, it is a good thing because they will publish you, but of course you have to buy the anthology if you want a copy of your printed work.
I am published by them and it is a pretty decent book, but nothing that will ever get me real recognition because usually only frustrated hopefuls buy them. Still, the company sends me almost daily emails telling me that I am the greatest thing since sliced bread and trying to get me to purchase various services they offer. The voice of reason reminds me that if they think I have such talent then why haven't I actually won one of their contests? I honestly don't believe anyone ever truly wins, especially after reading feedback from other consumers. I actually submitted a crappy poem once and they still sent me wonderful email about it.
It is a market, but only for those who expect little and just want someone to submit to. one other bad thing about this contest is that they severely limit you word count which forces you to butcher your work just to make it fit. I would not recommend this site.
