I started watching One Tree Hill during my wedding planning. What happened was, while making 150 little tiny gift boxes by hand, I had to turn on something, ANYTHING, to keep my mind distracted from folding boxes. One Tree Hill came on one day and the episode was VERY intense! Some people got into an accident and flew over the side of a bridge! I had no idea what was going on or who any of the characters were but I got HOOKED instantly.
I continued to watch up until my wedding got closer, then I let it go so i could get married and not be too stressed :) This summer I caught up on everything that happened since I stopped watching so that this season I once again was HOOKED!
One Tree Hill is about a group of friends, with various drama! The previous seasons were about these kids going through high school, but what I really like is that they then decided to move 4 years later, so we didn't have to watch them go through college. Now they all have their own lives, their own jobs, their own responsibilities, but they are still friends and there is still lots of drama!
The drama on One Tree Hill is different than what I've seen on other shows of this type. People die on One Tree Hill, in outrageous ways like that limo going over the bridge. There are psychos, there are random acts of violence, and through it all these people try their best to stick by each other.
The mix of characters makes it a show anyone can enjoy. Characters include:
You get to know their families, their stories, their histories, their dreams and hopes, and everything about them. This is a continuous show meaning things do carry over from show to show and sometimes it takes 3-4 episodes before an issue gets resolved.
I usually don't go for too much drama, but what I like about this show is the characters seem real. I don't like drama like 90210 too much because it's cheesy overacting a lot of times. Don't get me wrong, I still watch the new 90210, but I wouldn't say it's that exciting, it's more just something to watch. The characters in One Tree Hill are less intense and react more like a normal person would. That's what makes it more interesting and makes me get into it even more. Most of the time I am rooting for the main characters and am actually very excited when things work out for them.
They don't make it sad all the time but there was one particular episode this season that was very sad involving a funeral and it just seemed so real to life and the little boys reaction was probably the saddest! It's because the writers made you feel for this character so when the person died you really felt sad :(
I don't see much humor in this show, so it's funny that I got into it. I usually only get into dramas if there is at least some comedy involved, however I can't remember a single time where I laughed while watching One Tree Hill. So this shows you how good the drama is, it keeps me interested and hooked even without the laughs! Because I don't watch that many dramas, I can't even think of a single show that compares to this.
One Tree Hill is a great adult drama that teens can enjoy to. The characters are smart and pretty respectable for the most part, they are people your teens could look up to! I like that they skipped the college years as that made it so the show wasn't so repetitive. If you are tired of the cheesy teen dramas like 90210, give this a try instead! Enjoy!
