I was tired of paying for home phone service just because of where I live. I'm one of the few people I knew my age that has a cell phone and a home phone. I always have my computer on so it made since to switch to VOIP.
I couldn't see paying for cable internet and vonage. That seemed a bit redundant to me. When I was told about MagicJack I figured $30 was worth trying it.
For the most part, it's a good home phone service. I think my home is a bit too old and may need new wiring. When I'm using a bunch of appliances at the same time my MagicJack calls skip. Or, when I'm having trouble with my cable (I have Charter), it skips then too.
I wish I could connect my MagicJack directly to my cable internet modem. It uses my front USB port and I would rather use that for other purposes sometimes. Also, I don't like having my phone cord running in front of my pc....I have stepped on it while talking on the phone before and lost my call.
Now that you can use Vonage on your data-enabled cell phone, I wish MagicJack had that option too. It would allow me to greatly decrease my cell phone plan. But....oh well. Still a good value.
