Customer Service simply apologized for the confusion but made no effort to try and resolve our new problem.

Wow. First time I used Kayak. We made reservations through Kayak for a hotel in Tucson for our family vacation. The night before we left, I called the hotel to confirm, but the hotel did not have us in the system. I spent the next two hours trying to reach Kayak Customer Service (on holf for 45 minutes twice), only to have a representative tell us that the hotel had just called them and notified them that they were fully booked. We were due to fly in the morning and were now stuck with no hotel during a very full, vacation week. I am in a panic right now trying to salvage our vacation. Kayak told me that this happens sometimes. Gee, what a way to learn NOT to use Kayak ever again.

Inconsistent Results

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I found out about this metasearch engine by reading a Viewpoints review when I was planning domestic travel over the summer. I was pretty excited. It saved me $40, or almost 20% of my fare, so I was eager to get the same result on my upcoming trip to Japan. The trip was a push, so I was feeling in need of a bargain. No such luck! The whole point in a metasearch engine is that you type in your parameters just once and let the computer do the walking. The meta site is supposed to check the other sites like Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia and deliver a best price at one of those sites with minimal difficulty. I was pleased with the result once, but I always have a compulsion to double che...

Some hotels booked through Kayak are a scam!!!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I booked my honeymoon in Paris through kayak.com.

I found a great deal at "Hotel de l'Arcade" for 9 nights and had to pay for everything in advance.

A couple of weeks before the wedding, I had a friend in Paris call the hotel to confirm the reservation. They told us that they don't deal with Kayak or Travelocity, they won't honor the reservation and it is a total scam.

I contacted Kayak, who in turn called the hotel and confirmed that they would not honor the reservation.

Kayak's response -- "We're sorry, but we don't guarantee the hotel reservation. Would you like for me to transfer you to customer service to apply for a refund?".

I'm now scrambling to find a place to stay two weeks before we arrive in Paris.

hard to complain, yet leaves room to grow

Overall

Kayak.com was introduced to me some years ago by a friend and i was skeptical. What is this obscure site? But since then, it has become my "goto" place for searching for flight deals. It even has recently become an option for locating hotels in the correct vicinity of my destination. Its many searching options are helpful, though standard now on most sites. It's also nice that they search other sites for you simultaneously, to maximize your time and ability to compare prices. The fact that one can set up their own acct is a great feature bc I often search for a flight, leave it, and search again, several times, before committing, so I like that I can just go back and say "search for this combo/itinerary" again, without re-entering all that information. One drawback is that there are a few airlines that were being missed in the searches, like southwest. I think that is just because they have such limited destinations though.

Kayaks are prone to tipping over

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

Had no problem with Sidestep in the past, loved it. Now that Kayak has adopted the Sidestep interface I expected the same quality and accuracy in internet travel search. However, I was not pleased when I ran a search (multiple times) for a flight and the price shown on Kayak was different once I clicked through to the airline's webpage to book. In fact, the flight was listed on the airline's page at double the price. I emailed the support team and got a reply 2 days later (not exactly the quickest turnaround) from the corporate IT engineer telling me he had rerun my search and found the same flight I had been mislead about for the higher price, and that if I wanted there was a lower priced f...

excellent

I love this site.  Just found it recently and was so happy to find a MUCH cheaper fare for a trip I am planning to Florida in February.  Exciting!  The site was very easy to navigate and the search was fast.  Took me only a couple of minutes to get to where and what I needed.  No more long, boring wait time!

Make life so much easier

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

When I discovered this it was such a time (and money saver). It is so nice to have a website do all the searching and comparing for you. I also check individual websites but this gives you a great start. It is also handy all the ways you can narrow down a search to find the exact information to suit your needs. My travel agent actually recommended I use this search engine rather than AAA because of their high booking fees and the fact this searched so well. I also like the fact it takes you to their website so that you feel more secure using a name site. Why didn't someone think of this sooner??

Reviews many sites to find a low price

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I have been researching travel sites for years.  Kayak of one of several sites that searches dozens of other sites, as well as the airlines themselves.  By searching so many sites, they attempt to locate the best possible price.  Previously, I have found them to be among the lowest fare providers.  However, since October 2007, I have found them not providing the lowest price.  In fact, on many international trips that I have researched, I have found KAYAK to be as much as $100 more than a couple of other sites that I have been using.  No one site is always going to provide the lowest prices all the time.  It is always best to search at least 10 sites and, if you have a little time, as many as 30.  A few extra minutes can save you many dollars.

my favorite site for flight searches

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Kayak.com is my first source for information about flights. They have a good, comprehensive database that includes information from individual airlines' websites, so that's very helpful, as I used to have to search the various travel websites (all conveniently searched by Kayak now) and then go to the individual airlines' websites to see if they had a lower fare than the travel sites. The one drawback is that Kayak does not include listings for Southwest Airlines, my current favorite, but having to search one other site is not so bad. I have found that Kayak really does show the lowest fares, regardless of where they're found, so it seems pretty trustworthy to me. I have not been overly impressed with Kayak's rental car or hotel searches, so go elsewhere for those.

Helpful for all aspects of travel.

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I first used Kayak when hunting for flights and have found many deals through it.  I love that you can filter searches based on take-off/landing times and can search surrounding airports. But what I really love about it is the hotel searches.  It allows you to find hotels in big cities and small no name towns.  My favorite part has to be that you can view the results in a variety of ways including a map.  This has been particulary helpful as I've been planning a long trip and while a hotel might be in a town/city I'm passing it's actually rather far from the road I'm on.  This way I can visually see the results and which are near the route I'm taking.  This site allows to you comparision shop all aspects of your trip from flights to hotels to rental cars.

Kayak.com offers an easy way to comparison-shop for travel.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I am an American living in China and shop frequently for plane tickets to come home.  In the past, I have always used Expedia to find the best prices, but recently I've used kayak.com to search for travel deals, and have been very pleased by the experience.Kayak.com does not book plane tickets or hotel rooms itself, like Expedia and Orbitz do; instead, it allows the user to comparison-shop between a multitude of airlines or hotels, displaying the rates for all and then taking the customer to the website offering the tickets or room the customer wishes to book.  In other words, kayak.com is a huge search engine for travel deals--not a vendor.  While some people might find this ...

Convenient for comparing airline pricing.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I like that Kayak compares prices for most airlines including the discounted carriers.  Another nice feature is that you can include surrounding airports in your search to locate the best fare and times for your needs.  Once I find what I'm looking for I go to the actual site that offers the best price just to make sure it's the same as Kayak's listing and then book directly so I avoid duplicate fees from Kayak and the direct website.  Usually, you'll find 3 prices within a few dollars of each other after your search... the carrier, maybe Orbitz, and Travelocity.  This is when you'd go to the carrier website and book directly with them.

Kayak your way around the world

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

This website has been around for many years and so it is a reputable and efficient website even though most of my friends would say that its name makes it sound rather frivolous.

You can set up email alerts on Kayak and unlike other travel sites, Kayak does not seem to sell my email details to outside vendors. I usually set up email alerts on one email and then wait a few weeks to see if I get junk mail. Then I would switch it to my regular email to reduce spam.

the one stop shop

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

Kayak.com is very helpful for an easy and quick way to search many sites at once. Their site is simple yet has all of the functions and options to create a search according to your needs. I really enjoy their buzz page which lets you search the cheapest, most recent fares that people have booked for certain cities or areas.

The only issue I dislike about Kayak.com is that sometimes I've been able to find a cheaper fare on an airlines direct website so apparently they aren't always able to find the cheapest fare out there anywhere. Otherwise it is a great source for knowing what is available for flights or other travel services.
