i robot roomba 530 Vacuum battery is too expensive

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

Time saver, if you don't have time to clean carpet every week, that will be a good tool to use. Before I go out, I could just turn  it on and leave, when I'm home again, i robot roomba 530 Vacuum was back to charge already. My husband and I named the i robot roomba 530 Vacuum Linda.

One big thing we don't like, the battery is really expensive, I think it's about $80. Because we didn't change new battery for the i robot roomba 530 Vacuum, we stopped using it for a long time. I dunno if it's worthy to buy a new battery or just give it away to someone who want to pay for a new battery themselves. It's not too hard to clean, my hair stuck on the brush a lot. For sure my hair made the clean...

Not perfect, but better than traditional

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

EDIT: It's been two years, and the battery is completely dead. Apparently this is a somewhat common problem and replacement is over $60! I had to remove a star for that. Plus, for all the fuss and extra cash, our next purchase was a traditional vacuum.

I don't think I'm ever going to go back to the normal vacuum. I have a small "dust-buster" type for little spills, and it has a hose for hard-to-reach vacuuming, but for the normal floor vacuuming, this is the thing!

I have two cats and long hair (I just had a baby, and so my hair is falling out like crazy), and this vacuum never fails to pick it all up! Of course, I have to clean the brushes a lot, but I would much rather sit and clean the ...

This Roomba is as cool as it sounds

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I have owned this roomba for 4 months now. I agree with others, you will spend some time watching it. It is fascinating. My one year old has a love-hate relationship with it. He will chase it around, but cry if it gets him. Anyway, it does a great job of carpets. In order for the roomba to clean one room only, you have to set up a barrier or use the tower it came with. I haven't gotten around to purchasing another to tower yet, but if you have an open-concept home, at least 2 would be a necessity. My problems with the roomba are: it is a little noisy so don't expect to run it in the middle of the night. I have had to clean the brushes and ball bearings several times already--I don't have pet...

Roomba 530 Vacuum takes care of business.

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

The Roomba 530 Vacuum does a fantastic job on all my wood floors, tile, and carpet.  I am amazed at how it really does clean right up to furniture, under it, around electric cords, and everywhere!  Under the bed and closets too! It is so easy to empty and clean the brushes. This vac is almost perfect!  It cleans my dog's and cat's hair perfectly.  I recommend it to all of my friends.  I used to put off vacuuming.  Now I just turn Roomba loose in a room and an hour later, everything is done. The first time you do a room you will find areas where it may get stuck, but it is easy to fix once you know the spots. It is very easy to set the remote senso...

Not a necessity but boy does it make life easier.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

When my Roomba Sage died earlier this month and iRobot refused to help us because it was 3 months out of warranty, my husband went out and bought me one of their newest models, the Roomba 530 Vacuuming Robot.  I was angry and ready to swear off iRobot products for life.  That being said, I'm really happy that he knew me well enough to go out and buy me a new one.

Like all of the Roombas, this is a small, circular device that automatically moves throughout a room, vacuuming up dirt and other debris.  It has three travel patterns: spiral, zig-zag, and wall creeping.  The Roomba 530 alternates the patterns to cover all of the spaces in the room about 4 times per ...

Not worth the money

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I bought a roomba about 8 months ago as my schedule got really crazy and was very excited about a gadget that could save me a bunch of time on a regular chore. I'm in a 1000sft apartment, so I thought it could easily do the cleaning. I cannot describe enough how disappointed I am with it.

It takes forever to clean a medium sized room.

Second, by the time it's done cleaning one or half a room in case of like a living room, it's battery dies and it takes forever to recharge. After recharging, it does not remember where it left off and starts doing the whole thing again and dies again.  So, cleaning the whole house on one go, is out of the question.

It's spot cleaning is not very e...

An invaluable tool in the right situations

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

The Roomba 530 is our second in the last 4 years. This model is quieter and more intelligent than previous versions. We cannot live without a Roomba and will always have one in the future. Our situation makes it invaluable: large expanses of tile and low cut carpet floor. This is the surface Roomba works best on. I wouldn't think these are good machines for small areas or deep carpets. No one is in the house during the day, so turning it on and letting it run gets the job done without us having to do much. I don't think I'd like to be trying to do things in the house when it's running. These machines have had technical issues, but it's possible to get a good one with no problems. Parts do ru...

Free time, what a gift.

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I was skeptical of the Roomba, but got it as a gift. I could not believe the amount of dirt it picks up every time! You will spend time watching it at first and being amazed that you actually have a robot. It also works on hard floors (linoleum, wood, tile), which is nice to send it out before you mop. If there are deep grooves inbetween tiles, it will not work as well. I have noticed that ours seems to be louder (I have had it for 4 months now) than it was when we first received it. Perhaps it is because we use it so often. It cleans corners with a spinning brush that sticks out. For spot cleaning, I find that a handheld vacuum is more efficient. I set the Roomba out in a room, after I have...

This makes my life so much easier.

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

This is my second Roomba. I was one of the first people who bought the one originally marketed several years ago, and my first one finally died. I must say that the customer service was very good when I was trying to determine if my first one could be saved. They walked me through several things to check, and then sent me a new battery free of charge (normally those cost $40-60). When nothing worked, and one of those 20%off coupons from Bed, Bath and Beyond arrived in the mail, I just got a new one. I love this one just as much as I loved my first one. I absolutely hate vacuuming, but with two kids, my floors are constantly a mess. With this, I just turn it on in one room, and then go ...

I was cleaning while I relaxed.....PERFECT!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I read a lot about roombas and scoobas before making a choice. I haven't gotten a scooba yet - though I intend to - and I picked the Roomba 530 model. I investigated different models, looked at a lot of different websites, read TONS of reviews. I wanted to get the most up-to-date model I could afford and get that one for the cheapest price possible. I used the comparison chart on the irobot site to see what the real differences are, and for the most part with the 500 models, there's no gigantic differences. I was more interested to see a lot of positive reviews for the model of my choice, as I think that's a real testament to how good the product is. I ordered my roomba from a big box store ...

Roomba does the day-to-day chores!

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The Roomba is a lifesaver for those of us who are horrible at housekeeping.  In between major, deep-cleaning vaccuuming, the Roomba picks up all the stuff you don't want to bother pulling a vacuum out for.  I only use the upright vacuum maybe once every two months, but the Roomba can move on its own weekly and take care of everything that's left.  It only takes a few hours to charge, either via a cord that plugs in or a docking station onto which it can dock itself.  The docking station sometimes comes with your Roomba depending on the model you buy, but the cord isn't a hassle either.  It just plugs into the wall and into the Roomba.  There is a little indicator light to tell you whether the vacuum is charged or not, but it even works on half a charge.

My Roomba will do a 500 square foot room before I have to empty the tank (we're messy people) but it would probably last all day on my entire house (3,000 sq ft) if I needed it to.

Irobot 530 is so handy

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The irobot 530 is real handy. I have to protect my plants that reach the floor, however, when I vacuum. Also it helps preserve the battery when you clean it out after using but it's a chore. Also, one time I used the virtual wall lighthouse to prevent the vacuum from going into my plants and one time only it didn't work. Lucky I was standing there to pick up the vacuum and move it away. But all other times the lighthouse works. I do have to move my furniture around because the Roomba 530 is somewhat large and doesn't fit under my couch or some other pieces of furniture in my house. But, it does work great other than that. The lighthouses require 2 c size batteries that are not included in the box.

The Roomba is a great toy, but not much of a vacuum cleaner.

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

Mesmerizing to watch, the Roomba 530 does a good job cleaning under and around chairs.  It picks up the dust that attaches to chair legs, which is a nice feature.  That's it for the good things I have to say.

The Roomba doesn't do corners well; it inexplicably skips certain portions of rooms; it occasionally drops small clumps of dust in the middle of a room.  It ruins all kinds of area rugs, from fine antiques to simple modern styles.  Dhurries, rag rugs, Persians -- none are exempt from this rug-killing machine.  Somehow the Roomba finds a tiny loose end, a minute bump, a worn edge, and attacks mercilessly until there's a good deal of damage.

The machine has a lot of trouble with hair.  Hair gets tangled in the wheels and the brushes quite easily, requiring frequent cleanings and mini-repairs.

But if you have very short hair, and no rugs of any kind, and don't mind hand-cleaning dirty, dusty corners, then you'll love the Roomba 530.

HUGE TIME SAVER!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

This Roomba is awesome! We love it! We have a labrador which sheds insanely and because of which I should vacuum every day. While I never could find the time to do that before, I can now let Roomba do it for me! I set Roomba up to vacuum every day at noon while we are away at work and even though he can't pick up the entire house, he picks up enough so that I no longer have tumbleweeds of dog hair collecting in corners and I can get away with vacuuming only once or twice per week. Love love love my Roomba! And when he's done vacuuming, he finds his home on the charging base so that he can do it all again tomorrow. The first time you use Roomba, just follow him around the house and make sure there isn't anything he can get stuck on or under.

What's Not to Love?

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

What's not to love about the Roomba?  You just turn it on and go about your day.  It cleans my entire downstairs in one charge, allowing me to do other things while it cleans my floors.  While you do have to clean it out after each use, dumping out the dirt is quick and easy.  However, don't expect to use this as your exclusive vacuum if you have carpets or lots of rugs.  While it picks up dirt on the surface it is not good for deep down cleaning.  I run it multiple times a week to keep the house tidy and cat hair free for my baby, who is crawling.  Then on weekends I pull out the large vacuum and use it to get the rugs truly clean.  That said, I still love this vacuum!  It's especially nice when family or guests call to say they are on their way over because you can turn it on and spend your time picking up the rest of the house.  By the time they arrive the floors look clean and your house is not a disaster area.
