Avatar (2009)
Given all the build up to this 400 million dollar James Cameron "epic" - I was left a little flat. Avatar runs about 2 and 3/4 hours and by the end of the first 35 - 40 minutes, I could predict the ending.
Avatar is rated PG-13, and for good reason. I don't talk that nasty even when I'm ticked off. So, it may be wise to keep little ones away. No, I don't have "virgin ears". I've heard it all before either in the military or over-the-road driving a truck. I just believe it was a little over-the-top.
The most notable name in the movie is Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine. Sam...

Sherlock Holmes directed by Guy Ritchie arrives in theaters on Christmas Day because we need a loud, over the top fast moving gimmicky action movie that's NOT in 3D to occupy our minds this holiday season.
I mean when you think Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson don't YOU think of updating them into an Indiana Jones, Batman and Robin kind of movie with lots of fisticuffs, foot chases fast cutting, explosions and mayhem?
Well Michael Rober Johnson, Anthony Peckham and Simon Kinberg took Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved stuffy sleuth character and turned him into something quite different. The...

Here we are at the end of another decade. Of course, I know you can carve any 10 year chunk of time out of the calendar and call it a decade and, well, it is. 1993- 2002 is a decade, BUT we mortals tend to think in multiples of 10 and so, for the purpose of categorising things, we think the beginning of all decades involve a number ending with a zero. Therefore, for most of us, Jan 1, 2010 will begin a new decade.
Now, any ole hack can pick the top 10 TV shows for a year, but this ole hack is gonna have the audacity to name the best (at least in my mind) TV shows I saw in the past 10 years. ...

Ever since I was around 13 or so, I've resisted going to Walt Disney-produced movies of any genre, in seventh grade I was teased a lot by the older kids when I told them I'd gone to see one of the Disney live-action comedies (The Apple Dumpling Gang, if memory serves). The guys (most of my friends at the time were boys, since I was so darn shy with girls then) rolled their eyes at me and said I should go see movies along the lines of Jaws, Grand Theft Auto or The Omen instead.
"Those are real movies, Alex," they'd say almost in chorus, "not that Walt Disney stuff. That's for babies."
Of course,...

Cathe Friedrich's Basic Step + Body Fusion is a step aerobics workout that is designed to teach those who are new to step aerobics. Although I am not new to step aerobics, I do like to do workout when I feel like I'm hitting at plateau in my workout schedule.
I also like this workout DVD because it allows you to mix and match workouts. Cathe Friedrich's Basic Step + Body Fusion includes:
- Basic Step-a 35 minute step routine that teaches the basic step moves. It is led by Cathe Friedrich, a fitness instructor does a really great job teaching beginners. I'll admit that when I first started step...
Little Miss Sunshine
This great movie is about Olive, a little girl obsessed with beauty pageants, she gets to enter the 'Little Miss Sunshine Beauty Pageant' so he family; her mother, success obsessed father, her perverted and heroine addicted grandpa, mute brother, and suicidal gay uncle, travel cross country in their crappy van. And along the way they experience many problems while trying to get to the beauty pageant on time.
The first time I watched this movie I absolutely fell in love with it. Little Miss Sunshine is a fantastic comedy that finds comedy where there normally is none. Little Miss Sunshine is a dark...
Dan In Real Life
I somehow ended up with the movie Dan in Real Life, despite not particularly liking the work of two of its stars, Steve Carell and Dane Cook. By the end, I was a little surprised that both were pretty good in this little movie, a romantic dramedy with a family twist.
Dan in Real Life starts out with Dan (Steve Carell), a "Dear Abby"-style newspaper columnist who finds that it's easier to answer questions about other people's lives than it is to live his own. His three daughters are driving him crazy as he shoves off for a holiday visit to his parent's home in Rhode Island. Once there, he falls...

OH-MY-GOD! The Hangover is one of the FUNNIEST movies I have ever seen in my life. If you have ever, even just once, drank much more than you should have and have been unable to remember the night before, you will find this movie absolutely riotous!
NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW---
The Hangoveris a 2009 film that is about four men that head to Las Vegas, as one of the men is about to be married. The trip to Las Vegas is supposed to last just one night, and is a bachelor's party of sorts that goes horribly wrong. To quickly sum up the worst of it, when then men wake up in the morning, there...

I rented this movie Christmas Night with my boyfriend we rented it on demand thinking that it was the new Sandra Bullock movie where shes like a stalker but it turned out that it wasn't. But I have to say great mistake. This movie is histerical I don't know if I would say it's the funniest that I have ever seen but it's definataly the funniest movie that I have seen this year. I would buy this dvd so that we could watch again. The only thing that I think would have been funnier is if they actually showed the entire night in the order it went in instead of reverse.
Paranormal Activity
I went to see Paranormal Activity with my friend. We often go see movies together. One day she asked me to go see this one with her. I will usually go to anything, so I agreed. We caught the matinee showing, which I am glad for because I would have been so disappointed if I had paid full price to see this.
My first dislike about this movie was the camera work. I have a problem with shaky camera work. If the camera is bouncing up and down so much that I can't see what's going on, it makes me nauseous. The majority of it was shot in shaky camera style. By the last 45 minutes of the movie, I had to...

I saw the previews for Inglourious Basterds and it looked pretty good, staring Brad Pitt, directed by Quentin Tarantino director of Pulp Fiction, a movie I really liked. Since Brad Pitts Charactor was from Mayardville Tennessee, I was like wow, very cool. Well wow wasnt the word for it.. we put it in and was about 5 minutes into when my husband said, did you choose English for the lanuage? I do not speak french or german neither does my husband, and that was the opening lanuage of the movie..subtitles that were so small and in yellow, very hard to read anyway, but then they spoke so fast, that...

Mean Girls" is a fun movie that can be enjoyed thoroughly by the adult set as well as its seeming target audience, teens. The flick opens up with Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) embarking on her first day of the jungle that is high school ever as she has been home-schooled in Africa her whole life. After some initial bumps in the road, she manages to befriend two "artsy" misfits, Janis (Lizzy Caplan) and Damian (Daniel Franzese). Surprisingly, however, she is also quickly welcomed into the Plastics, a group of uber-popular girls who seem to be simultaneously admired and resented by all. On Janis's urgings,...

Very few actors can play a charming cad who can do dastardly deeds and, yet, have you believe in and care for them. George Clooney is one of those few actors and he brings his charm to "Up In The Air" while he flies about the country firing people from their jobs and walking away from the consequences of doing that.
I really didn't know what to expect walking into this film as the coming attractions sort of made it feel like a comedy but what little I have read made it seem deeper than that. This is not a feel good movie by any means and I saw the ending coming half way into the movie BUT,...

My husband and I went to see "Did You Hear About The Morgans" yesterday. I was hoping to see a very funny movie. I really like Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker is OK - as I'm not a Sin City fan. I love Sam Elliot (still such a hunk with that sexy voice) and Mary Steenburgen. It did have several good one liners and some funny situations throughout the movie, but overall I have to admit I was disappointed. There were several times when it was a bit corny to us. I loved where they filmed out West (supposedly Wyoming) and had hoped at the end of the movie that these city slicker New...

Two and a half men is a verry funny and realistic show on tv today. Although it is not for everyone, you may want to use parental discression when watching. There is a lot of talk about sex in this series. My family and I however find this to be one of our favorive shows to watch. We watch is just about every day. I have a teenage daughter who relates to a lot of what "Jake" (the boy in the show), goes threw. The differance between the two brothers is so real and entertaining. We laugh through most of the show. One brother (Charlie) is a successful jingle writer. And the other brother (Allen)...
