Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines
fun loving, family traveler, busy mom, experienced parent, tired of airport hassles, too busy to make beds

NOV

2009

There are many advantages to living in Houston and one of them is that Continental Airlines offers many non stop flights from Houston to were I want and need to go.  Much of our family lives in Ohio and without Continental Airlines it would be difficult if not impossible to see our family (with them traveling here or us traveling there) as often as we do.  My daughter has flown using their unaccompanied minor system (which is expensive but never messed up); I have flown alone with two preschool children in tow and so far every experience has been excellent.

What I like about air travel with Continental...

Gladys Porter Zoo

Gladys Porter Zoo
family traveler, budget-conscious traveler

Family time at the zoo is a regular occurrence in my household, thanks to our membership at the Houston Zoo. We visit several times per year, for educational and recreational purposes but even though we have a membership, we still like to check out other zoos while on vacation. And one zoo we visited recently and enjoyed very much is the Gladys Porter Zoo, a small zoo located in Brownsville, Texas.

Zoo Facts:

The Gladys Porter Zoo is located near downtown Brownsville, Texas. This small zoo opened to the public for the fist time on September 3, 1971, the result of a private donation to the City...

Hilton Garden Inn, Albany, New York - Albany, NY

Hilton Garden Inn, Albany, New York - Albany, NY

Myself & some friends stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY while in town to see a concert nearby.  The hotel wasn't bad by any means, but I suppose I expected a little more out of it since it was a Hilton.  It is a hotel that shares a parking garage with a Medical Center and I think it may even be attached to the medical center.

Everything about this place was "okay" so I can't really brag or complain about any thing.  It has The Recovery Room attached as well, which is a sports bar with some cool memorabilia hanging on the walls.  Even the restaruant/pub was...

Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines
family traveler

NOV

Delta was the cheapest airline to fly to New York from Heathrow this November and I bought two tickets and prayed.  I needn't have worried.  Very efficient check-in, early boarding, on time departure, friendly staff, plenty of legroom, modern, clean interior, early landing, no problems with baggage, on both the outward and return journeys.  I will definitely fly Delta again:  what value for money!

DEC

I booked and paid for tickets from Charleston SC to Los Angeles CA to fly Dec 17 and return January 5. I thought everything was good and then I started receiving emails that the departure time kept changing and then one day I got a phone call that Air Tran is cancelling service to Charleston. I called to get a refund and they said OK and then immediately said "Oh wait we can't do it because we don't have your credit card on file" My statement clearly shows I paid them. They basically scammed me out of my money and my only option is to leave at midnight and drive from Charleston all the way to Atlanta...

Dollar Rent A Car

Dollar Rent A Car

Two things really turned us off at the Phoenix Airport Dollar

#1.  The rental agreement you sign makes you responsible for all "loss of use" so if there's a fender bender and it takes 3 weeks to fix it, you just rented that car for another 3 weeks, NO MATTER WHO CAUSED IT.

#2.   At drop off we reviewed each item of the bill and we got charged $8 for Frequent Flyer Miles.   I guess they give them to you when you rent but it's not free.  My wife was terminally pissed.  Jerry the drop off guy was super nice, but Dollar is really out to gouge.

You get charged if you drop it off a few hours...

If I could give this company a minus star rating instead of a plus one I would.   It all started with the wait to get up to the counter at the Las Vegas Airport.  This is the only company that had a 45 minute wait time.  All the other companies had enough staff to cover the customers with no wait time.  The line was just as long upon our return.  The car was a 2008 Maxima with 45,000 miles.  A bit high but I figured that they took care of the cars.  We proceeded to Death Valley for a quick day run (180 miles) and then we were going to come back to Vegas for a pre-purchased show ($250). ...

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. The worst and most unsafe car I have ever rented. Their website says that they have all kind of cars, but all their fleet is Toyota and nothing else.

Also, no one explains anything, none of the front desk employees even smiled, said a nice word or made me feel that I am welcome. When I asked about something on the bill, they sounded pissed! Well.. it was totally a horrible experience.

When I requested changing my car because something was wrong, they didn't even apologize, they made me feel like I am wrong to request that and they gave me a...

Royal Caribbean - Sovereign of the Seas

Royal Caribbean - Sovereign of the Seas
fun loving, a beauty diva

NOV

2009

I was on  royal caribbean cruise, on the sovereign of the seas. The ship was huge, with many options for dining as well as entertainment. They have a wide variety of activities to do, some you must may extra for, such as parasailing and wave runner trips. I took the wave runner excursion and it was worth the extra money. They showed up a sandbar covered in starfish, where you could stand in the middle of the ocean and not see landanywher you looked. My only issue was the swimming pool had salt water in it and I was a bit put off by it.

Norwegian Cruise Line - Spirit

Norwegian Cruise Line - Spirit

NOV

2009

My husband and I took our first cruise in Nov 09, aboard the Norwegian Spirit, for a western Caribbean cruise.  I had heard both good and bad concerning cruising and we were both a little apprehensive over what our experience would be like.  Prior to our choosing a cruise line or even a particular ship we spent hours reading reviews and listening to friends and family who had cruised before.  We hoped we would experience only the good and not some of the horror stories we had read or heard about.

The Spirit had recently been overhauled in 2008 and it showed.  The ship was beautiful and everything...

NCL - Spirit is a fine ship - however this ship's business model - Freestyle Cruising - is not for me - at eveything but the budget inexpensive food in Raffles, Garden, Blue Lagon and Windows there is an additional upcharge of $10 to $25 in the NICE restaurants and even additional charges on top of the $10 to $25 cover if you want the best quality meals like Lobster. This makes me feel like they are  "forcing" you to spend the extra money if you want the best quality food that I have come to expect based on other cruise lines. This was a Thankgiving week cruise - the New Orleans port check...

KLM not honest company. Clerks and supervisers have no ideas about company rules. They try to charge you for everything - out of rules, don't suggest you any help. That's all about Chicago O'Hare Airport location. I e-mailed to the company, didn't get any (axcept automatic) answer.

My husband and I decided to go on a 7-day cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary and we thought it would be fun to take our kids, son 21 and daughter 12 . Our first cruise, we took the Carnival Conquest out of Galveston with stops in Cozamel, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. The Circle C for the 12-14 year old kids was great, She had a blast and made a lot of new friends. As for the 21 year old, he played black jack and learned that it's fun but you can't make a living doing that. He enjoyed the disco. Not much to do on board if you don't drink or gamble.  After two days we had seen and done most everything...
