havent seen any good ones —

The Phillips Avent Baby Bottles were all the rage when my now-5-year-old was an infant.  Being a breastfeeding mother, I bought these bottles purely as a back-up for an occasional night out on the town sans baby.  Upon use, I was quite confused as to why these bottles were so popular.  The nipple shape is typical- nothing special.  The bottle is short and wide, which only adds to the incidence of excess air/gas for baby.  The worst part of these bottles is they are SO leaky!  It never fails, every time I use these bottles, I have to perform my "shake test", a test I formulated after many a frustrating bottle session.  I have to shake them above my kitchen sink, while pinching the nipple shut, to see if the milk is going to leak from the lid.  And probably 50% of the time, it leaks.  I then have to undscrew the cap and re-screw it back on, give it the shake test, and hope it stops the leak.  A number of times, my child has ended up completely soaked after a feeding.  Very annoying, especially since I bought the bottles specifically to give to babysitters for my nights out and they don't know the special fix to stop leaks.  So often, babysitters complain the bottle leaked, but the baby wanted to be fed, so the babysitter just gave the leaky bottle to baby, ending up a milky, wet mess.  Not good.  I would not buy these again, and I intend to toss them once my now-18-month-old is off the bottle.  My 4-month-old will get new, different branded bottles.
