Freecycle Review Summary

Many individuals are developing an environmentally- friendly outlook and one web site that helps to encourage this trend is Freecycle.com, a community web site that encourages people to recycle ordinary goods by trading and/or giving them away to those who want or need them. Freecycle.com is a “Great Community Asset to Those in Need and Those Cleaning House” and reviews point out the ease of use of Freecycle.com and the fact that it ultimately helps the environment by discouraging waste. Most importantly, Freecycle.com helps out the local community by redistributing goods from those who have them to those who need them. For information on similar web sites, be sure to read reviews of other Community Web Sites and get involved in your local and world communities.

After my cat suddenly passed away, I went through my house to clean out and put away all of her things.  I knew that I would keep some items in case we adopt another cat someday.  However, my pantry held 2 dozen new cans of premium canned cat food that I didn't want to go to waste.  I knew that I... review »

While I think the freecycle idea is a great one, the fact that they've now set up a sister site for pet adoptions is very discouraging.  It's one thing to offer up a dog house, cat condo, etc., which they do allow postings for, but the people behind this latest site obviously are naive to the many... review »

I'd be willing to bet you've got some things around the house, clutter piled in closets, packed in boxes in basements, attics, and garages that you don't want or need anymore, things you bought that looked better in the store, things your kids have outgrown, things you got as gifts that just aren't for you, etc, the kind of stuff that's good stuff that you can't bring yourself to throw away.  You don't want it to just go to the landfill, but you're a busy person and never seem to find the to have that yard sale you say every summer you're going to have.  You don't have time for ebay.  You've...

Freecycle is a great concept that hooks up people needing things with people needing to get rid of things.  It keeps the landfills from filling up as fast and helps the community out.

One Man's Trash...

I have posted all kinds of no longer needed things from coats to thermostats on Freecycle.  I don't remember ever posting an item to give away that no one else was interested in.  I even found a home for an unwanted Beta Fish.

I have also received items that I wanted on Freecycle.  Some items had been posted as giveaways; others I requested.

Goes Both Ways:

Many times the giver gets as much or...

I have been a member of FreeCycle for a couple of years now. The concept behind FreeCycle is that "one man's trash is another man's treasure," and since we all have things that we don't want or don't use and someone else might want or even need these things, why not give them to others who can use them?

With FreeCycle, each area is allowed to have their own local group run through Yahoo Groups and if there isn't a FreeCycle group available in your town, you can start one. For those of us who live in rural areas, it is sometimes best to join more than one local group since most of the groups near...

I found freecycle on Yahoo.com many years ago and after finding it I did a search finidng other freecycle sites.  Not only does it help me get rid of household and clothing items I don't need by giving them to people who do need them but I've received many things that I needed and it's all for free!

All you have to do is find the city closest to you, join the group and start reading what others have to offer and post your own items that you no longer need.  One of the good things about freecycle is there is no mailing involved since everything is local to you.  If you are getting an item you...

Have an old bike your kid has outgrown? How about a box of left over party supplies from your last Super Bowl party? If you were thinking about tossing them out in this weeks trash think again. Sign up for your area Freecycle and you can find someone in your area willing to come pickup your leftovers for free. I've been using Freecycle for a couple of years now and love how I can list my unwanted items and usually have them gone by the next day. Plus, I have found a ton of stuff I could use that other people were giving away. We have received brand new sleeping bags, a ton of craft supplies, a...

Freecycle(TM) is an amazing concept that has grown so much in the last few years. Basically it is community orientated and there are groups all over the world. You join your local group and there you can find items that others no longer need as well as offer items that you might normally throw away. This not only helps to keep our landfills cleaner and save the environment, but it also helps others in need.

The concept is simple, post a message to your local group with your item that you are offering. Other members contact you who are in need of this item and you set-up a pick-up time. Need something?...

Freecycle is a great place to get rid of your unwanted items and find stuff you might of been looking for ..But I can't belive what some of them ask for on mine they ask for running trucks or motorcycle.. But remember to becareful and always leave your stuff outside for them to pickup..

And it's nice you dont have to deliver it or haul it any where..And if there not a Freecycle in your area start one, go to http://www.freecycle.org/startagroup/

I am a member of freecylce.com and love it. I get things for my kids, and pets. I also get things that help needy families. Everyone should check it out! There is so much to see and do. My favorite thing with freecycle.com is the fact that you get to meet people in your area, that like the same things you do. It is a great way to make friends.

I accidentally stumbled onto this web site and thought I would share it.  It is like the recylcler newspaper only it is called freecycle.  You can post items that you are getting rid of and you can also post  wanted ads for things you are looking for. The only catch is everything has to be "free"  I like the fact that it keeps all kinds of things out of the landfill and it helps ease the pain of  the economy.  Of course items are used but if you need a particular item that doesn't have to be brand new, then it makes perfect sense!! I have been amazed at some of the postings in my local...

AmazingTrashToTreasure

I am the owner of AmazingTrashToTreasure.  This group is the best thing that has happend in the Eastern Panhandle. This group is new but it already has grown since I opened it.  My group is growing by the day. This group is to help our community to conserve our landfill, so don't through things away that other may be able to use, instead, give it away to someone that can take it, fix it up to their own liking.  Post things such as used furniture, toaster, toys, clothes, shoes, tables, compter parts, the list is endless.  Members have received items they need from...

I found Freecycle many years ago....before the huge boom and influx of members. The concept behind it is great. You can get rid of the stuff you have in your house that you no longer want, that is too good for trash. It's great because you don't have to have a time consuming and annoying yard sale, especially if you just have a few items to get rid of. Plus it feels good to give.

The problem with Freecycle is that there are too many people who have nothing better to do that sit in front of their computer and wait for the next offer to come through and reply right away and get that item. I think...

Freecycle is one of a number of online "keep it out of the landfill" sites.  I don't know if it's the original, but it's the one I discovered first.  I've had great luck with Freecycle in finding new homes for unwanted stuff that we had sitting around.  We've also benefitted greatly from the generosity of others.

The only drawbacks are timing and transporting what you're getting.  When you make arrangements to pick something up, you have to follow through on time.  Sometimes this isn't easy, with lives the way they tend to be these days.  Timing can be tricky when you're relying on someone...

FreeCycle is a wonderful concept. Whether you have an excess of items you no longer need, or have just moved into new digs and have a limited budget for acquiring furniture, this is an excellent resource.

It does require joining your local FreeCycle e-mail list, but after that it's simple. Post the item you're offering or seeking, and then make arrangements privately for the transaction. Only free items are allowed; by FreeCycle rules no money can change hands.

I enjoy just seeing what kinds of interesting things are offered or looked for - Wooden dinosaur models, cervical traction units, DVDs...
