Simple Makeup Routine: 5 Steps in 5 Minutes

simple makeup routine

These 5 products will get you out the door with a simple makeup routine in just 5 steps.

Whether its one of those days where you find yourself in a mad dash to get out the door, or simply would like to hit your snooze button a few extra times in the morning, a quick makeup routine is essential for situations where you find yourself in a rush, but do not dare leave the house bare faced. It’s easier than you think to put on a flawless-looking face of makeup in only 5 minutes.

A 5-minute simple makeup routine is easier than you think, provided you are choosing the correct cosmetic products.

Here are my top 5 essential beauty items that will have you ready to face the day in 5 minutes flat. I have them listed in order of importance.

Create a clean canvas

Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream

Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream

With a fresh, even-toned complexion you can actually get away with wearing a lot less makeup. Think of your skin as your blank canvas; it has to be primed, prepped, and smoothed out before applying the rest of your paint. But prepping goes beyond just applying foundation and powder. What about moisturizing, priming, and protecting? And how do you apply ALL of those products in under 5 minutes? That is where BB cream comes to the rescue.

This all-in-one miracle cream will have your face ready in a simple, one-step application with moisturizer, SPF, primer, and coverage combined into one product. My favorite BB cream for this job is Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream (85/100). It is so easy to apply this BB cream with your hands, so no need to pull out your makeup brushes. It also blends so quickly and evenly into your skin it is nearly impossible to apply it unevenly. Perfect for putting on in a hurry.

Fake an awake look

If I had to choose between an eyelash curler or mascara in a pinch, my vote would be eyelash curler, hands down. Nothing opens your eyes up—making them appear bigger, brightening your face, and just pulling everything up, up, up—more than wide, curled lashes.

This Revlon Eyelash Curler (97/100) gets my lashes curled just right in no time flat. It has a great grip to it.

Make sure that you’re curling them correctly. Instead of just pinching at the base, start at the base and slowly “crimp” your way up to the tip of your lash line.  This method not only makes for a more natural looking curl, it makes the curl last a lot longer as well.

Hydrate, highlight and tame with one product

Vaseline Original 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly

If you have no time to apply lipstick, then hydrated lips are an absolute must. A product like Vaseline Original 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly (93/100) is perfect because of its instant lip smoothing and hydrating effects. Well hydrated lips makes them appear healthy and full, so it is easier to skip on the lip color, if needed. Another great use for Vaseline is its ability to tame your unruly eyebrows by dabbing a bit on your fingers and smoothing a bit across each brow to hold shape.  Also use it under your eyes and along your cheek bones, it is an instant highlighter and brightener that will give your face a beautifully fresh, dewy look.

Long, thick lashes in one swipe

If you still have time to add mascara, go for a formula that does not require trick hand maneuvers and constant wiggling to get it on clump-free. You also need one that does not need drying time between coats. For that task, my pick would be Almay One Coat Lengthening Mascara (93/100). It defines, separates, volumizes, and lengthens your lashes in one quick swipe with zero clumping.

Brighten with all over color

NARS The Multiple Stick

NARS The Multiple Stick

To polish off your look with a burst of color here and there, use a product on your face specifically designed to be used here and there, without having to switch between makeup items. All-in-one lip, cheek, and face stains, such as the e.l.f All Over Color Stick (77/100) or Nars the Multiple Stick (88/100), can be used to add a pop of color to your lips, and a nice flush to your cheeks.

You can also use them to add a touch of pizazz to your eyes by dabbing a bit on the inner corner or the very center of your upper eyelids. It will really brighten them when you do not apply it over the entire eyelid, but highlight these areas only.

Go ahead and give this beauty shortcut routine a try yourself. You’ll be surprised to see how easy it is to look great in just a few easy steps!
