Shark vs Dyson: Which Vacuum Is Better For Pet Hair?

Shark vs Dyson

Looking for a vacuum cleaner to get rid of stubborn pet hair? I compare Shark vs Dyson to see which is the best option.

Vacuuming pet hair off the sofa can be both a frustrating and exhausting chore, but it doesn’t have to be, so long as you have the right vacuum for the job. That’s why I’ll be facing off two of Viewpoints most highly rated vacuum companies, Shark vs Dyson, to see which one most successfully steps up to the task of sucking up all that stubborn pet hair. For this duel, I will be comparing the Dyson Animal Series to the Shark Navigator and Rotator models. Both companies provide bagless vacuums with excellent power as well as extra tools for cleaning, which are all essential elements in the battle against pet hair.

Dyson Pet Hair Vacuum Models

The Dyson Animal series vacuums are powerful, highly rated and do an excellent job handling pet hair because they were specifically designed for it. They come in a variety of sizes and power, but unfortunately also come at a much higher cost. For the purpose of this competition, I have chosen two of the most popular and current models.

Dyson’s DC41 Animal

product name

Dyson DC41 Animal Vacuum

Viewpoints Score: 93/100
Est. Price: $479

As one of Dyson’s larger stand-up vacuums, it is relatively light at 17 lbs. It also proves to be one of Dyson’s most powerful vacuums coming through with 235 Air Watts. The DC41 also comes standard equipped with a “tangle free turbine tool,” which is designed to remove pet hair and remain tangle free.

“This is the ultimate vacuum for those with pets. You will never have to worry about all that loose hair around the house, when you have this vacuum. It literally just sweeps up all the dust, and dirt from my carpet, and all the hair from all over the house. The lightweight, easy design makes it easily mobile, and handy to fit in a small closet. I used this vacuum everyday, as this vacuum makes it fun to clean up my dog’s hair!”

Dyson DC39 Animal

Dyson DC39 Animal Canister Vacuum Reviews

Viewpoints Score: 93/100
Est. Price: $399

The DC39 is rated the same as its DC41 Animal counterpart, but the main difference between these two is the shape of the base. The DC39 uses a canister design, which to some offers greater maneuverability; yet there’s no doubt that this is a more compact vacuum. It’s also important to note that the DC39 has 275 Air Watts, which is 40 more AW than the DC41. So in the realm of pet hair removal, the DC39 beats out the DC41.

“What a beast. I have two dogs and this works like a charm in picking up the hair in one shot!”

Shark Pet Hair Vacuum Models

Like the Dyson Animal series the Shark Navigator and Rotator also offer a powerful solution for your vacuuming pet hair needs.

Shark Navigator Bagless 2V22L

Shark Navigator Bagless Vacuum NV22L

Shark Navigator Bagless Vacuum NV22L

Viewpoints Score: 91/100
Est. Price: $120

Though this model is the lowest ranked out the four vacuums, it is also the cheapest and most compact, weighing in at a light 13 lbs. It retails for $100-$150 and includes a Power Nozzle and handheld Power Brush specifically for pet hair removal.

“This vacuum does an excellent job of getting the hair off the furniture and the cat liter up from the cracks in wood floors. The only down side to this machine is that the compartment where the dirt is stored is small.”
JNF26, reviewer since 2010

“I have 2 cats and a dog and this sucks up the pet hair very well.”

Shark Rotator Professional Lift Away

Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away 3-in-1 Vacuum NV501

Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away 3-in-1 Vacuum NV501

Viewpoints Score: 93/100
Est. Price: $250

This 3-in-1 vacuum serves as a stand-up, canister and lift-away vacuum making it the most versatile item on our list. With the Rotator, you get more than enough power at 1200 watts, and it’s just 15 lbs. Like the Navigator, the Rotator also comes with Shark premium pet tools that are crucial for removing hair from carpets and furniture.

“I have two cats and they shed a tremendous amount of hair. The Shark Rotator sucks up the hair and the attachments really enhanced to process. I just got done grooming my loveseat. It is a favorite hang out place with my cats. It was saturated with hair. With the great sucking energy and attachments, it looks like new again. I can’t say enough good things about this machine. Thank you for finally being a company that got it right!!!”

One thing stands out among these vacuums: price. We learned in a previous comparison, Shark vs. Dyson: Price Makes the Deciding Factor, that Dyson’s expensive price tag doesn’t make up for its solid performance. There is no denying the fact that Dyson produces quality cleaning machines, and its Animal series make excellent pet-hair vacuums. However, one cannot escape the value Shark offers. All of its products are reasonably priced for any budget, making Shark victorious once again.

The Shark Rotator Professional Lift Away 3 in 1 is perhaps the best option for a pet owner, with its power, versatility and, best of all, its practical mid-ranged price. Yet, if you are a lifetime fan of Dyson you can’t go wrong with the Animal series, especially with the value offered with DC39 model.
