When you’re working on cleaning a large amount of hardwood flooring, you need a few more tools in your cleaning arsenal. Just like with your kitchen floor, some sort of mop or handled tool will save you time as well as aches and pains. I recently tried the Bona Hardwood Floor Express mop and wanted to see how it stacked up against similar floor mop systems.
Bona Hardwood Floor Mops
Bona produces a variety of mop kits to take care of hardwood flooring, all of which come in a starter kit. Each kit has the mop, a microfiber pad (reusable) and a refill cartridge with the highly rated Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner (90/100). All of the different Bona products can be used with the floor mops. At the bottom of the line is the express mop, which has a simple design. The top of the line is the Bona Floor Mop Motion, which has a vibration to help lift the dirt from your floor. Bona’s Floor Mops are lightweight and take up minimal storage space. The mops are on the pricey side with the Motion costing around $50, but it comes with everything you need to get started.
Swiffer Wet Jet
The Swiffer Wet Jet system acts similar to the Bona Floor Mop with a cheaper price tag and quality. The wet jet is rule by batteries and uses disposable cleaning cloths. The sprayer can take a variety of refill cartridges including the Swiffer hardwood floor cleaner. While it is less expensive, the Swiffer Hardwood Cleaner is not as highly rated by reviewers (62/100) as the Bona Cleaner. The Wet Jet system is also is less eco-friendly as it uses disposable materials, instead of reusable.
Shark Sonic Duo
If you want to make light work of your hardwood floor cleaning, the Shark Sonic Duo is highly recommended. Our expert reviewer described the electric scrubber/vacuum as “essentially a giant electric toothbrush for your floors.” The device squirts out the cleaning formula then the two scrubbing pads take the elbow grease out of cleaning and mopping. Do not be deceived by the marketing of the Shark Sonic Duo, though. It gets lots of mixed reviews that have to do mostly with its ability to clean carpets—the machine has little to no suction.
When looking at all the factors together—cost, effectiveness and value—the Bona Hardwood Floor Mops tend to come out on top. If you have a house like ours full of hardwood you will want to consider investing in a Bona floor kit to help keep your hardwood looking clean and new.
