Upgrade Your Kitchen With Counter-Depth Refrigerators

Counter-depth refrigerators add an upscale look to your kitchen.

What is a counter-depth refrigerator?

A counter-depth refrigerator is a full-size model refrigerator with varies sizes and finishes, but it fits flush to the cabinets. They are usually 25-27 inches deep rather than the 30-32 inches of a standard size. If you have a smaller kitchen or prefer the look of your refrigerator not sticking out then this style might be appealing.

Integrated counter-depth refrigerators are not only flush with the rest of the counters and cabinets but they have a veneer to match the other cabinets. These are definitely higher quality, deluxe refrigerators.

Not to be confused with under-the-counter refrigerators

Counter-depth refrigerators and under-the-counter refrigerators are often times confused, but the difference can be easy to remember. Counter-depth refrigerators look like standard refrigerators except they are not quite as deep and are even with the counter, and under-the-counter refrigerators are literally “under the counter.” In many cases they are considered as “mini-refrigerators” and hold a lot less. They can be convenient for serving beverages at a party, storing frozen items, or for a smaller apartment or college dorm room.

Benefits of a counter-depth refrigerator

It allows you to work with more space in the kitchen, and you can get closer to the counter. Many of these models offer the same benefits as a standard model. LG counter-depth refrigerators include Energy Star Efficiency, SlimSpace Plus Ice System, Smart Cooling Plus System, Tall Ice and Water Dispenser, and 3 Tier Organization Freezer. A counter-depth refrigerator will also help boost the look of a “high end” kitchen.

The down side of counter-depth refrigerators

With a counter-depth model there is a little less room for food. Often times you sacrifice up to five cubic feet for the refrigerator to fit. Sometimes with big families every inch is important. That may or may not bother you, but take that into consideration when making your decision.

The cost of these refrigerators is very similar to the standard-size counterparts. The only difference is that these are harder to find than a standard-size refrigerator. Most major brands, including Samsung, LG, Frigidaire, Jenn-Air, Electrolux, Maytag, Sub-Zero, and KitchenAid have counter-depth refrigerators. Most are available in side-by-side and French-door models.
