Phentramin-D: Not a Risk-Free Diet Pill

With bathing suit season in full swing, Phentramin-D’s promise to help users lose up to 25 pounds in one month seems like a dream come true. But does it deliver? Reviewers can’t seem to agree.

When diet and exercise alone don’t bring results, people may turn to additional weight loss aids. Phentramin-D, a weight loss pill advertised to be as successful as Adipex  (available only by prescription) is one of the highest-rated weight loss supplements on Viewpoints. I spoke with nutritionist Nicolette Pace, founder of Nutrisource Inc., an organization dedicated to nutrition education and counseling, to learn more about the risks and perks of this weight loss drug.

What is Phentramin-D?

Not to be confused with the prescription medication Phentermine, Phentramin-D can be purchased online. A 60-day supply costs about $67 dollars.

Not to be confused with the prescription medication Phentermine, Phentramin-D can be purchased online. A 60-day supply costs about $67 dollars.

Phentramin-D is a non-prescription diet pill designed to suppress appetite, stimulate the metabolism and increase energy. While you might feel just fine about chemically suppressing your appetite, your body has other ideas. “As soon as you suppress one of the systems that’s instrumental in driving or suppressing hunger,” Pace says, “you have an equal and reciprocal response from other systems in the body that counteracts that.” Even fueled with diet pills, the human body find ways to ensure it gains the nutrients it needs to function.

What are the risks?

While the the side effects of Phentramin-D are not as extreme as those caused by prescription weight loss pills, neither are its results.

“It does help with weight loss if you are on a regimen or something but it is no miracle pill. I would say if you have a fairly high tolerence for these kinds of products give it a shot otherwise you may want to steer clear of this one. In my opinion, Phentramin-D Diet Pills are fairly good but the side effects may be a bit too much.” - pampered1, Reviewer since 2008

“If you read the ingredients closely, it is mostly made up of caffeine   If you are new to the diet pill world, this may work for you for a short period of time.  But the more experienced user who is unaffected by “short term” uppers like caffiene will be so angry that they fell for yet another diet pill promise. I am actually a believer and user of diet pills.  If they work, they can really assist your weight loss efforts.  Please just spend your money on effective pills…..not these!” - greeneyes2501, Reviewer since 2010

What are the benefits?

“Overall,” says Pace, “diet pills can help generate an an additional five to ten percent weight loss on the weight you would lose without them.” Unlike some prescription medications that cause severe anxiety or jitteriness, Phentramin-D does not seem to cause sever side effects, although one reviewer did feel anxious while taking the pill.

“I personally have tried alot of different online diet pills. Phentramin-D diet pills are great! I don’t get the shakes or feel like I need to eat to offset the feeling of the pill.  The energy they provide is outstanding.” - berlynna, Reviewer since 2010

“I was already pretty sucessful with my weight loss, I was just looking for something to reduce that gnawing hunger I was constantly fighting!  This pill was easy to swallow, didn’t upset my stomach, and did, to some degree, suppress my appetite.  However, the most significant effect I had from the pill was anxiety.” - sheasavings, Reviewer since 2010

Diet pills aren’t for everyone

Always consult your doctor before taking a medication, even one that is available without a prescription.

Despite celebrity endorsements and customer success stories that promise quick results, over-the-counter appetite suppressants like Phentramin-D can pose serious health threats. Ideally, diet pills should be used by individuals who are looking for ways to boost or jump start a serious weight loss regime, but they are not a permanent solution. ”Unfortunately, when people are seeking some type of diet aid, they’re [usually] looking at it as a way out. They say it’s just a tool, but frankly, once the drug is pulled off the appeitite does come back so they’re like a fish out of water,” says Pace. “It just becomes another failed diet attempt.”

This weight loss pill, Phentramin-D is available without a prescription. I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s daughter. As Nicolette Pace pointed out, when someone stops taking diet pills the weight can come right back.
