Natural Baby Lotions That Parents Love

Lotion is applied to baby

The most highly rated baby lotions on Viewpoints are the ones with fewest chemicals.

If you’re watching which chemicals go in your baby’s body, then you’re also going to want to watch which lotions go on their body.  Choosing a natural or organic baby lotion can be almost as daunting as choosing baby bottles.  The choices on the store shelves are growing as are the online selections.

California Baby Calendula Cream is perfect say consumer reviewers on Viewpoints.com.

Top organic baby lotion

As in true California Baby fashion, California Baby Calendula Cream rises to the top with an impressive 100/100 rating.  Calendula extract is considered to be nature’s first aid, as it seems to hold healing properties.  Created in an organic-certified and sustainable environment, California Baby Calendula Cream is safe for the entire body, even the diaper area, to heal and protect precious baby skin.  The only downside reported is the price (approximately $13 for a 2-ounce jar).

“After several YEARS of skin troubles (our son is just a few months shy of turning 4), with just a few DAYS of use, the scratches and bumps are almost completely gone!“ ~ unmistakable1, Reviewer since 2010

Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Lotion is not organic, but it’s popular as a natural alternative for babies.

Some of the highest rated (98/100) baby lotions, which are also mid-range priced, are the Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Baby Lotion and the Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream.  The difference between the two is the addition of lavender and vanilla in the Calming Comfort Lotion. Though Aveeno Baby is not certified organic, it is made with natural ingredients.  The colloidal oatmeal, which is the key ingredient, helps moisturize and protect sensitive skin.  Aveeno is a natural alternative that is also easy on the pocket book retailing for $6 for an 8-ounce tube.  Aveeno Baby does also make an organic baby lotion for a similar price to California Baby.

While not rated quite as high as the others, Johnson’s Natural Baby  Lotion also isn’t as expensive.

As a lower-cost alternative, Johnson’s Natural Baby Lotion receives a high 85/100 rating.  Containing 98% natural ingredients, Johnson’s Natural Baby Lotion moisturizes nicely for a price many moms can more easily afford.  An 18-ounce bottle runs around $5 .  The only thing some reviewers don’t like is the scent, which is a little on the “earthy” side.

“It doesn’t have the greatest fragrance ever, but it is not enough to deter me from continuing to use it. It does a great job moisturizing my baby’s skin and seems very gentle.”–ncummings86, Reviewer since 2011

I agree that the Calif baby sounds like a great organic choice of baby lotion (has wonderful ingredients). But just because a lotion doesnt have a lot of ingredients doesnt make it healthy for you….
Here are the ingredients for Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Lotion taken from their label:
    Active Ingredients: Dimethicone
Inactive Ingredients: Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour (Oat), Benzyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Fragrance, Glycerin, Isopropyl Palmitate, Petrolatum, Sodium Chloride, Water

I cannot even think of using any of the cheaper lotions as they contain alcohol (very drying), petroleum (aka vaseline, mineral oil or petrolatum) and artificial fragrances. Petroleum is a chemical that is DEFINITELY not organic or natural… its a petro chemical or a byproduct of refining crude oil… Yuk I dont want that on my babys skin clogging her pores or mine for that matter !!

Look at labels & do your research!
I dont have any issues with Johnson & Johnson (my husband actually works for them!) but I dont use any of their products.
Personally I use ABC baby lotion from Arbonne…. organic, vegan, no petroleum, artificial dyes or fragrances. Yes I am a consultant but Im not trying to solicit business. (Find an Arbonne consultant near you or go to Arbonne.com & they will find one close to you) They just have wonderful products with HEALTHY ingredients. They may be a bit more expensive but I think its worth it!!
