We spend an average of 2,688 hours every year in our beds – and that’s assuming just eight hours of sleep with no other time spent in bed. Most people have figured out by now that it’s worth it to invest in a quality mattress, and the Hansens know this fact better than most. The new ComforPedic from Beautyrest mattress is designed to conform to your body and keep you cool while you sleep. Watch our Viewpoints Video Review to find out how it works and what our reviewers think.
A mattress that gets more use than most
The Hansens and their two children have active lives in suburban Chicago. They don’t follow a typical sleep cycle and have a cat and dog that along with the Hansen kids, frequently try to wiggle their way onto the bed. Their work schedules are also fluid, so at any given time, either one may need a good night’s rest or a quick nap.
As such, their mattress gets used around the clock, by a combination of people and pets, and it shows. Dina Hansen says their old Tempur-Pedic mattress sunk in after use from just a few months. They were eager to try out the new queen size ComforPedic from Beautyrest mattress. Mattress maker Simmons provided the ST. SIMONS model to Viewpoints, and Viewpoints arranged for the Hansens to test it in return for their honest Review.
Why the ComforPedic from Beautyrest?
The memory foam mattress, which retails at $1,999, comes with technology to avoid overheating: AirCool Memory Foam with GelTouch, Advanced AirCool Edge support and AirCool Mesh Border Fabric, all features Dina Hansen was looking forward to because she frequently overheated on her old mattress. This is all part of the Recharge Sleep System which is supposed to conform the mattress to your body, provide pressure point relief and dissipate heat.
You can also purchase the mattress with the NuFlex Foundation (sold separately), an electronic base that gives the mattress all kinds of capabilities. It allows you to elevate the mattress to improve the position for reading, working or watching TV. You can use the massage mode and specifically target your head and feet, timing it so that it automatically shuts off when you fall asleep. You’ll even find accessible side outlets on the side of the foundation for easy charging of your phone or laptop.
The Hansens tried out the mattress for more than a month before sharing their Review with us on camera. While this isn’t much mattress time for the average family, the Hansens put in plenty of hours before coming to a conclusion. They thought the ComforPedic from Beautyrest ST. SIMONS mattress was extremely high-quality overall, and only had a few minor complaints. Both felt like the AirCool and GelTouch technology really worked.
Dina commented, “It actually stays quite cool. I can tell there’s a gel in it because that’s what helps keep it cool. I can feel the difference.”
They said they noticed a definite quality improvement from their old mattress, and they felt “a lot less sore” after waking up from a night’s sleep.
“Overall, the mattress is actually very comfortable.,” Dina said. “The first couple nights it was very firm, which is what we had asked for. With our other mattress, over time I was sinking in. I kept saying I was sinking in the middle. With this one, as soon as we got out it went right back into place.”
Paul Hansen added that, “Everytime you get into it, it seems like a new mattress.” Neither were big fans of the NuFlex Foundation, though. Dina said it reminded her of a hospital bed, and she barely used any of the features. Since someone is always sleeping in their bed, they never needed to elevate it. Dina said if she tried to elevate the mattress without someone on the other side, everything on the bed would slide down. While the outlet on the side of the bed was convenient, both forgot to use it since they weren’t used to having one there.
Dina also complained, “The massaging feature was pretty loud. To turn it on, it felt like the whole house shakes when you use it.”
Overall, Paul was impressed with this Beautyrest and noted, “I think it’s reasonably priced. It’s good quality. I would buy the Simmons over our previous mattress.”
