slimy, can not grip, useless, do not buy

Comments about Equate Dental Floss:

I don't review much of anything so you know I’m really PO'd.
I buy Equate because it's usually cheaper than the name brand stuff yet the product (insides) is typically very similar.
The equate floss has been in a white container for a long time and was a very good product... is seems that for about the past 6 months they changed the 'container' to green and the stuff is unusable!!! You can NOT hold it no mater what you do!!??? I actually went thru 3 green containers thinking maybe it was a mfg defect. And again the white containers are no longer available.
It boggles my mind that they (Wal-Mart / Equate) can produce / sell most likely millions of these things and it somehow gets by "quality control"... which most apparently they do not have QC.

Works Great

By

Comments about Equate Dental Floss:

Equate dental floss comes in a variety of lengths, and it works quite well for flossing. It is strong enough to last through an entire flossing, and it is relatively gentle on the gums. I personally have not had problems with it cutting gums or anything like that, although someone who already has softer and more sensitive gums should always be careful when using dental floss. But at the same time, this Equate dental floss does a good job of removing plaque and other harmful things from between teeth and down near the gums. For one who flosses consistently, the bigger containers with more floss are definitely the better value for the money. The Equate brand also works as well as other brands even though it is typically a good bit cheaper than the competition. For the money paid, it is definitely one of the best deals for dental floss, offering very good value.

What a joke

By

from TX

Comments about Equate Dental Floss:

Equate Dental Floss is by far the cheapest, poorly made dental floss I have ever seen. My mother gave me this one day at her house to use and I couldn't believe she wasted her money on it. The packaging is made of such cheap material that I had a hard time getting the floss to cut because the metal piece almost broke off the first time I used it. Then the floss felt like a mixture of plastic and rubber which did not glide easily at all through my teeth. There was not any taste to it, which for me helps freshen my mouth. I could have taken a piece of string and got better results. I threw the entire package away and immediately bought some decent dental floss. I would not recommend this product to anyone. I think Equate should either revamp this product or take it off the shelf entirely. Think twice before purchasing this product and spend a little more money for a better brand. This product did not work effectively at removing food particles from between my teeth and gums because the floss does not have a wax like texture that allows it to glide easily.

Equate Dental Floss

By

from Hermiston, OR

Comments about Equate Dental Floss:

I used this dental, Equate, while visiting a friend. I had forgotten to pack my dental floss picks, big mistake. While this floss did serve a purpose and get the job done, I was not happy while using it. I found the cutting edge to cut the floss to not cut the floss with the first try. I had to pull the floss across the edge a couple of times to get it cut off so I could use it. The floss itself was a little thicker than what I was used to. I had a difficult time getting it between my teeth. I also discovered as I used it that the floss thread would fray and separate while I was flossing my teeth. It was slightly frustrating. Also the mint flavor was barely there. By the time I finished flossing, I had no after taste of a fresh clean mint left in my mouth. It was disappointing. I don't see this floss as cost effective because I had to use more than I normally would use due to the fraying and separating of the floss while I was using it.

Too Thin

By

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Equate Dental Floss:

I have purchased Equate dental floss because it costs a little less than some other brands, but in this case I think you get what you pay for.

The floss is so thin and unsubstantial that I have to use piece after piece to get the job done. The floss is too flimsy. There's no real taste to the floss and that's good.

I don't care for the case that the floss comes in. For such a small amount of floss, it has a big case---a little awkward to carry around. Also, there is no way to tell if the box of floss is brand new or almost completely used up.

The mechanism to hold the floss outside of the case malfunctioned for me and to get to the remaining floss I had to break the plastic case open which was kind of a pain. Also, with the busted case it was almost impossible to use the rest of the floss.

I think it's worth paying a little more for a more substantial floss---and the other floss just feels better and I think it actually does a better job.

I do not recommend!

By

Comments about Equate Dental Floss:

I have always relied on equate brand products because they are priced great and usually perform like name brands. I tried the equate dental floss and there seemed to be no wax on it and it completely tore to shreds. I would not recommend this product.

I will never buy Equate Dental Floss again

By

from Berryville, VA

Comments about Equate Dental Floss:

I bought the generic Equate brand dental floss in the mint waxed variety because it was the cheapest.  I will never again make that mistake.  I hate this floss.  The wax coating is so bare that the floss is brutal on my gums.  I almost would say it isn't waxed at all.  The floss strands come apart when you try to floss rather than staying in one string.  Also, the worst part is that the floss does not stay wrapped around your fingers.  It is constantly slipping no matter how many times I wind the floss around.  This makes it nearly impossible to accomplish any flossing at all.  I almost never throw anything away, but I am ready to make an exception.  The only pro I can think of for this product is that it is cheap.  Next time I will spent 10 or 20 cents more and get a product that I can actually use.  I will note that normally I love Equate brand products for their cost savings and effectiveness.  This is the one exception.
