I've used Ebates.com for some time as a way of wringing additional discounts out of some online purchases.
The way the site works is that you go to the Ebates web site, click upon the vendor name that you want to use and then Ebates opens up and reports a traffic ticket number and then links yopu through to the site you want to purchse from. Buyer makes the purchase and then the money gets credited to your account. The money is paid out quarterly and you can choose check or paypal. I am now using Paypal.
If I want to buy someh=thing from an online vendor other than Ebay, I go around and find the best prices for the item and then check if the vendor is listed on Ebates. Several vendors I use regualrly are, including
Ebay 2%
Buy.com 1%
Active Musician 2.5%
Barnes and Noble (usually 4%, temporarily at 8%)
Half.com 4%
Musician's Friend 3%
Petco 6%
and many others.
Most recently, I have been using Ebates.com for buy-it-now items on Ebay, earning 2%. The one drawback with Ebay is that you cannot use it with snipe services, pribably because Ebates cannot track that. Snipe services are those that will place a bid for you automatically right before the end of an auction. Thatmakes sure that, if your bid is high enough, you won't get outbid by someone seeing the amount you bid at the end.
Other than that, Ebates.com has worked fairly well for me. Referrals of new members who credit your email address as the contact generates a $5 referral fee.Payouts are quarterly, 45 days after the end of the calendar quarter when there is $5.00 accumulated of Ebates other than the referral fee.
So, I can recommend checking them out as a useful service.
