Earning money online is the dream of many writers.  If you want to make money by writing online and build a residual income, eHow is highly recommended.  It is, as it says, a site that tells the reader how to do anything from burping a baby to cleaning the furnace.  

eHow is a site that allows you to add your content for a share of the profits.  The material remains in the control of the writer as writers maintain ownership.

The pay for eHow is a mystery.  The writer is not told exactly what the formula is that decides how much you are paid, but it involves the clicks on the ads that are placed on your article once it is published.  eHow uses Google adsense and the writer is paid a portion of the money earned.  A total of ten dollars must be reached before the writer is paid.  Once the amount is reached it accumulates until the end of the month and is then paid via a PayPal account.  This can take anywhere from one to three months.  Once payout is reached, it increases every month.  The articles are indexed on Google and are often among the top ten articles listed.

On the site, you will find a community that is, mostly, friendly.  As with anything, there are those who are a little testy but the great thing is, you don't have to deal with them if you prefer.  There are forums and groups as well as friends.  You can send personal messages and leave notes on the pages of your friends.  This is a total personal choice.  Visiting with others and writing on the forums does not increase your income but does give you an outlet if you are a work from home writer.

From time to time they run contests.  Some contests are open to everyone.  Some are offered to a select group.   Again, involvement is a personal choice.

If one thing could change about eHow, it would be the level of communication between the writers and the staff.  When bugs affect the system many will write about it on the forums.  Sometimes days pass before a the staff posts a response.  While they are very friendly and competent, the staff is small and the site is huge.  It is hard to keep up with every thing.
