Being retired I find that Ebay has made my life a bit easier. How you ask, well let me say that it has saved me lots of gas money for one. I have also found things I could not find in stores. Ebay being an auction site can offer very good deals if you look hard enough.

What can you find on ebay?

My favorite item to look for on Ebay are Nascar collectibles, my two favorites being Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. I have found most of my Nascar collection on Ebay and have gotten it most times at least 10% cheaper than stores or even Nascar sites on the internet.

My other passion is Billiards and I have gotten lots of accessories for my family room there, again at least 10% below other places. I have even bought a few collector coins on Ebay, thats my next discussion.

    Buyer Beware!

I will only buy coins from Powersellers on Ebay and then only if they have a very high rating there. You see I also belong to a collectors site and have read some horror stories of coin and currency ads on Ebay. If the price seems too good to be true on Ebay, it is more than likely a scam and you should stay away no matter how bad you want it. As an example I read of one guy selling Crisp uncirculated bills with no return policy. Turns out he was ironing the bills to remove wrinkles, or the picture shown was not what he was selling. He has since been dealt with through the proper channels and received jail time from what I hear.

What to look for when shopping

First after you find what you want, check the little box that says watch this item. After you have found a few in your price range ( for buy it now option) or one with a low bid ( if thats your choice) then go back through your list in your members section and do a little research on the seller. Here is a list of what you want to look for:

1. The sellers ranking --ie. how many sales have they had
2. Read their feedback --both good and bad
3. What are they charging for shipping and do they offer insurance
4. Their return policy

After you have found the best seller and are satisfied with your choice then you can buy with confidence. I have been buying on Ebay for about 5 years and have had no bad experiences with the site, the sellers or the products I have gotten. As long as you do a little work on your part your experience should be a comfortable one.

    My little trick for Ebay

I always mark at least 5 different sellers of any one item I am looking at. By having them in my watch list I can get them anytime I want (provided someone else didn't buy it with the buy it now feature) Then I refresh the listings and watch the auction take place for the ones ending within a few hours or so. Sometimes I have grabbed something for less than have of retail, because the auction price never got very high and the seller had No Reserve Price on that item. I grabbed a Dale Earnhardt Jr. diecast car for $15 and it was selling here at the local hobby store for almost $60. So you see with a little work and patience Ebay can be a great place to shop.

I have gotten some real good deals there! Been thinking of selling some of my coins but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I have some duplicate proof sets I want to sell. Ron
