A great value but I wish the primer wasn't so chalky colored.

Quick View: e.l.f.'s studio line is a little pricier than their dollar cosmetics but by only a couple of bucks. This dual use product is just $3.00 and works fairly well. I don't love the nude color of the lip primer though. It is a bit chalky looking.

My Take on e.l.f. Studio Lip Primer & Plumper

This little stick costs $3.00. One one side is a natural/nude lip primer that you apply before using lip color to help make the color cling and last and to fill in little lip lines. On the other side is the nearly clear plumper than can be worn over the primer, alone, or over lip colors.

The plumper has cinnamon in it which boosts circulation, giving lips a temporary look of fullness and a flush of color. I like the cinnamon scent and taste and don't mind the slight burning sensation I get when I use the plumper. It's very common for plumpers and this one isn't nearly as bad as many other plumpers.

I often will use the primer, apply the plumper and then color or do it the other way around and apply the plumper over lip color. II find though that the plumper works best on bare lips - unprimed and uncolored. It does give my ips some fullness but it's short lived.

The primer, though, is pretty darn good for being so inexpensive. It's a tad chalky and I wish it were more clear than nude on my lips though. If I overapply, I look like I have chalk on my lips and my sheer lip colors can't cover that. The primer does even out my lip skin tone and fill in lines. It leaves my lips ready for color or gloss but if I just want to use the plumper alone or a clear gloss over the primer, the primer is a little too pigmented and washes out the color of my lips.

At any rate, for a few bucks, both products work fairly well. I use pricey plumpers and pricey primers and some work better while some work the same or even are less effective than e.l.f. Studio Lip Primer & Plumper. For those just entering into the work of lip priming and/or plumping, this is a great dual product to try. Just know the plumper may sting a but but it shouldn't hurt. Lips will look fuller but not for too long. Use a light hand with the primer to avoid the chalky lip syndrome and you should be fine.

My Viewpoint

If e.l.f. Studio Lip Primer & Plumper were $20.00, I would rate it lower but, for $3.00, it's hard to complain. The primer is decent and the plumper is as decent as many expensive ones. The tube is smaller than many expensive products but, for the price, I can buy several tubes and not get close to how much I usually pay for pricey lip products. Because this is a great value and it works pretty well, I give it 4 stars.

Well, the primer is a bit thick but for that price, it's worth it.

Sounds like a great deal for only $3.

Me too but then lips look like sausages or worms. Very few people look natural with injections. I will just keep on glossing them up and trying plumpers that rarely work. :)

Yep, definitely the primer can look weird and chalky. I smooth it out with my finger and it works better. It's not my favorite but it's not bad when wearing darker shades. The plumper is about as good as most. None really do much more than swell the lips for a little while so I might as well spend 3 bucks rather than 23!

I just bought this for my mom, since she's always complaining about her thin lips. She liked the plumper, but the primer side made her look like a corpse, even after the lipstick was applied over top of it! LOL! But you're absolutely right, for $3, it's totally reasonable!
