Okay I know this will sound funny but it is the best way I can explain it.

What do you call those inflatable plastic donuts that kids use to float on water? I had one when I was small but I don't know what it's called.

a swimming tube?  The one's that are put on their arms are usually referred to as "water wings".

wow, I never knew they were called different things. Thanks to each one of you so much for your help. And RudiXeno, thanks for adding the "Water Wings". I was also wondering what those were called. :D

We called them inner tubes also, tire rings. I guess because they came or looked like they came from inside a tire.  Spent most of my time in the pool in the summer, those were the days. Fun in the sun. I could use some of those now with winter right around the corner.
