A note to my Twitter friends:

I tried to send you guys several messages from a wireless laptop via Twitter.

None of these messages showed up on any of your Twitter profiles and oddly enough all of my old messages to you have appeared to disappear.  Had Twitter indicated there was a problem, I wouldn't have wasted time bothering with the messages at all.

Don't look now, but I may be writing a review about Twitter when I get home and it may be a mixed review.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.  I'm really enjoying "Spring Break" in L.A.

I actually like Twitter too, probably more than most people may realize because a lot of times I'll pop in during the day just to read messages and see what's happening.  I've "met" some neat people like Darren (the Magician) and his friend Kristy.

My complaint all along is that it could be addictive if you are in it too much during the day but that is true of anything.  Moderation in all things and we will be fine.

I agree with you 100% about twitter!  I joined twitter, but I think it's a silly website.  Who really reads anyone's tweets?!  I keep getting these messages to sell stuff on twitter.  That's not for me.  lol  I do like facebook much better, even though they have "bugs" to work out also.  Good review AnnaBanana!  :  )

Facebook is enough for me. I have had members ask me to join Twitter, but I think I spend enough time online already.

When I first signed up for Twitter, it was so confusing to me. Ask Gigi. But then I got used to it. I think it is a great place to "text message" friends but it's not worth it if you don't know anyone. To me, it's kinda like text messaging because you can only post a limited amount of characters per message.

I think you are referring to DM (Direct message). I think only you and the person you send it to can see it.

Holy smokes!  This thread really has whiskers on it, I didn't even know people were still responding but I'm glad to see all the posts.  When I complained about the Twitter messages disappearing, they weren't direct messages but regular posts.  It appears that there was something temporarily wrong for a couple days at that time.

I think Twitter has made great strides improving the tech stuff.  I still take pains not to get addicted to it though.  Thanks for your input, nice to hear from you!

I'm young and I don't "tweet"! VERY stupid to me, no reason at all to have or want to do Twitter here...

You know, I keep getting these things about increasing my followers on Twitter. Right now I can't even believe 17 people are hanging in - at least the few that are not real life friends. Is it a badge of honor I am not aware of? Why would you need a ton of followers? I would feel pressured to Tweet interesting or funny things only if I was actively trying to draw in followers. I hate being "on" in person, never mind in 140 characters! Still, I find it fun. I even like some people better in 140 characters then I do in real life XD

I think it is a lot of pressure to have too many followers. I mean, I can't be funny or entertaining and I'm not a celeb. I basically say nothing that would ever matter to anyone. lol. I never did understand why everyday people want a lot of followers. I do understand celbs and up and coming people in various areas but everyday Joes and Janes? I don't get it.

I'm sorry but I just don't get it!  I find it's hard enough to keep up with Facebook, but Twitter?  C'mon.

As a receiver:

I think if I tried to keep up on twitter as well as Facebook, my head would explode. Of course that might be a personal problem of focusing on everything. Even though I get bored super easily, twitter is just too much noise—it's like tuning into every radio station at once and trying to follow the music, commercials, and DJs all at once. Of course if you can selectively ignore / selectively listen to an entertaining subset, then more power to you.

As a broadcaster:

I simply don't have enough to say in a short, rapid-fire format to find twitter an appealing medium.

I sang a completely different tune on this thread in the past... but guess what - I now have a Twitter account!  Can you believe it?

I only use it for one purpose - to promote my Reality TV articles. So I called it RealityTVLover, didn't even use my name. And whenever I write a new Reality TV article on my blog, I tweet it. At the bottom of each blog post I add "Follow me on twitter to find out when I write a new article!".  I now have 40+ followers and I've only been doing this for a few months so I think it's working.

I only follow other writers. I've found that I could unsubscribe to many users on Examiner and AC and instead just follow them on Twitter.  I haven't started following many people yet but plan to start finding my Examiner, AC and VP friends to follow.

So as a "business" reason, I can see how it's useful. But for personal things, I'll stick to facebook

I keep getting people eagerly lining up to be my followers on Twitter.  It doesn't take long for them to die of boredom as they wait for me to do something interesting!  HEH HEH!

You know what, Rudi? I find if I don't status update on Facebook, and Tweet, then no one knows what's going on with me. I have both my Twitter feed and my (truncated) Facebook status update on my blog. So, there, now you know what is going on, I say.

I am not limiting my friends and family to only electronic correspondence. No one wants to call and chat or even email anymore!!! They don't even go on their computers. They surf from iPhones and BlackBerry's (BlackBerries?) no one wants to compose an email on one of those... :( I was sick of people not returning my emails, so I make the big electronic drive-by every day. Twitter, Facebook, email, blog (every so often).

But, I do still think Twitter is fun.

Most of my friends know my quirks. I hate to text unless there's a very good reason to send a message.  Conversations via text?  No!  My last text will say "call me".  If you want to communicate either call me or email me.  To those that find it takes too much effort.  Screw 'em!

I love that expression:  "...big electronic drive-by".

That is PRICELESS and sometimes very apropos too!

I love Twitter but don't spend as much time on it since I got sick back in November.  However, I am a lover of snail mail and I probably send 3-5 cards/letters a week.  I tell friends and family that I will keep the US Post Office in business!

Twitter is fun to see celebs interacting and to know what's the latest.  And I think it's a cool way to stay in touch with some REAL friends too.  It's not that personal though because it goes out to the masses but it's still fun.
