Stuff you can't have

Here in Houston we used to have KMart. But they have all closed down. They still show commercials for super great deals. But I can't buy anything because there are no KMarts here!

By the way, I LOVE Sonic drinks. DH & I get a slush or limeade from there at least 3 times a month.

I've been to Coldstone Creameries a few times and they have excellent ice cream. However, it's really expensive and the portions are large.

When I was in Wisconsin on my vacation last week, I really wanted to find some mom & pop custard places that you hear about. The only one I found was Leon's in Oshkosh. It was good but nothing special, even if the cute waitress took my order at the car's window. A worthwhile experience but not one to drive out of my way for.

Well all I know is they are supposed to start turning some Tim Hortons into "Tim Hortons / Cold Stone" which I cannot wait for!!! The Cold stone nearest me is temporarily closed (I don't know why) and the other is in Plymouth which is even worse than Ann Arbor as far as getting around! Yet I have Tim Hortons all around - so I just am praying for them to add Cold Stone to their locations :)

See if you had come through Lansing you wouldn't have had to deal with the downtown Ann Arbor Area... though the construction here is nuts so it's probably not much better. They keep adding new ones around here. One just opened not too far from my office. Still haven't been there yet though.

I finally made it to a Tim Horton's to use my gift certificate. I found it in Ann Arbor, MI, and it took some doing to weave through town to reach this particular Tim Horton's, which is co-located with a Wendy's. Good thing I made it, as this particular Tim Horton's will be closed in a couple of weeks, leaving only the Wendy's.

The clerk was super friendly and the coffee was good, but the pastry (an apple fritter) was too sugary and had no apple. Guess I'm not missing much.

Right before we left Texas, they opened a "Yummies" frozen yogurt place. It's self-serve. You pick your size bowl and fill up on one or more of their 12 yogurt flavors. They had vanilla and chocolate, but for the most part there were unusual flavors, and they were good! One time they had Taro flavor. I think Taro tastes like potatoes, and they only had it for one day which was not surprising. They have a bar of so many toppings, even more than Cold Stone. I was careful not to let my eyes be bigger than my stomach. You can incur a large bill since it's based on weight. They said they are a chain. I'm sorry I only got to go once! I miss Yummies!

As far as Sonic goes, their food is pure grease. But I absolutely love cherry limeades and they have a diet one that is so good! I like the Sonic Blast ice cream treats too. But as for the food - I can see why it makes people sick. I don't think our bodies are made to ingest so much oil at once!

Oh - for sure no refills on the fancy coffees, but I had plain old regular coffee with nothing in it. Oh well.

Confession time - I just discovered something I like at Sonic. The CreamSlush drink - it's a combination of a milkshake and a slushie - yum. I still don't have any good foods to report though.

I will definitely be in Michigan in the next couple of days, so I'm looking forward to using my Tim Hortons gift certificate. I've had that for five years and haven't been able to use it!

I've heard about the Five Guys burgers restaurant in the St. Louis area, and understand it's been packed. Five Guys really has the best burgers and fries, so I hope all burger fans can get there.

I guess I've never even tried to get a refill in a coffee shop considering I get cappucinos and things like that and assume no refills.

Sonic commercials are hilarious sometimes, and lame others. Good sales tactic though b/c we all crave them!

LOL Buggheart - as soon as I started reading your posts I thought of Sonic - then you mentioned them.

The best thing about Sonic is their commercials. I love the ones with the couple.

Tim Horton - I was horrified that they make you pay for refills - is that true in all of them? I've never heard of not having refills when you are eating in any establishment.

KKs are ok if you get them right out of the 'HotNNow' once they have cooled, they are just a glazed donut. no big woo. and, yes - the calories!

Sonic stuff always looks good on TV but I think they're gross. Lots of people love Sonic, but DH and I are not two of them. We've been there three times and didn't really like it any of those times. The last time I went I think I got sick from their food so I'm done with them.

I'm not a big Krispy Kreme fan either so I'm right there with you. I think I'd like em better without the coating.

You might just see a Tim Horton's if you're in the Midwest. We've got tons of them up here in Detroit now (some are combined with Wendy's). It used to be just in Canada but they jumped the border several years ago and now they're all over here. I just had a nice cup of their coffee and a double chocolate donut for breakfast this morning :)

You'll certainly see a Tim Hortons if you come anywhere near MI :) Some people say it's the best coffee shop, but I prefer Biggby's which is also in MI and Ohio so look for that one too! They have the best frozen coffee drinks :)

I didn't know sonic was gross. Their free root beer float this past week looked good on the commercial and we don't have any Sonics.

Also there was the free Krispy Kreme donut on Donut day this week. The only Krispy Kreme shop I could find at their site was in NYC. We weren't going that far for a free donut. I know I'm better off without them anyway. :D

I don't see ads but I hear about Whole Foods and Wegman's all the time. Trader Joe's too. None in this area. I've driven an hour many times to hit up the local Trader Joe's stores, but still have never seen a Whole Foods or Wegman's. (my wallet is happy about that!!!)

Same thing here with the Sonic's :) But they are still too far so we haven't been, I think I might just pass after what you said.

I get emails from Uno's all the time even though the two by me both closed :( Now the closest one is too far to bother, but they still send me the emails.

Oh, and I see TONS of Comcast commercials... but my city has brighthouse. It drives me nuts!

So I was sitting here last night watching TV and I saw a commercial for Pinkberry which, I guess, is a cool frozen yogurt place. Well we don't have them here so it annoys me that I have to be tempted by their commercials and not be able to get their stuff!!!

We used to see Sonic ads all the time without a Sonic for hundreds of miles. We have them now and found out they're gross so no loss there.

So what do you see ads for in your area that you can't get?
