I could get the sniffles here as I've had a military family member die this week, but I will share one of those smile moments.
My Poppaw was in the Navy in WWII. When he passed, my oldest son was around 4 years old. He'd never been to a funeral, so I thought I should explain about the gun salute.
My kid was very serious as I told him about his Poppaw's burial service and how Poppaw would be honored with the 21 gun salute at the service. The kid hung on every word, and I felt good that I could share this special meaning of a military service with him.
I did ask if the little had any questions.
"Who they going to shoot at?" he asked.
It was a sad time, but I must confess that I almost had to laugh at the very idea that the honor guard would take out more family at this hard time. I did assure him that the shots would go in the air. I guess kids watch too much TV these days.
