First of all, I have no idea where this topic goes. So sorry if I posted at the wrong place.

I'm curious, how does homeschooling work? I haven't heard of that when I was growing up until these past few years. How does that work anyway?

:D

Actually, I am looking forward to find somebody that could explain to me about the homeschooling too, just like you I need someone who could give me some good idea about it.

There are online companies that can help you while other parents attempt to teach their children a comprehensive curriculum that they have either ordered from somewhere or designed themselves.  Personally, I believe that homeschooling may have value for elementary and middle school years, but I don't know if it can really do justice to the material at the high school level.

You are asking a loaded question even if you don't realize it.  For many, the opinion is that homeschooling actually doesn't work.  But some parents have decided that they can be better teachers than some schools provide, and have decided to teach from home.  That's basically what homeschooling boils down to, but it also could hurt a child's chances on getting into a good college after the high school years.

Formulating an intelligent response to that question would require a lot of time and effort and that's a lot to ask.

There is a lot of debate regarding this.  Public schools have to compromise quality in many ways because of quantity.  There are many checks and balances in place to hopefully insure the compromises made to educate millions doesn't result in poor education.  Does home-schooling offer those same types of quality control?

Public Schools must play a numbers game in order to get funding from Federal and State governments, so they sacrifice giving individual attention to students.

There are many good homeschooling systems and there are many arguments that many home schooled students get a better, more comprehensive and worthwhile education.

However, resources (money) necessary to monitor Homeschoolers might cost the public school system money and make it even more inneffective.

Lots of opinions.  Google it to get some facts about it in general and to get many many.. did I say many?  opinions on it.

About ten years ago I met a high school student who was home schooled along with her sibling's. Apparently there were many families in her neighborhood who utilized home schooling. She explained to me that parents taught the classes at specific times and on certain days (just like in public school), and that there are state guidelines that must be followed; the state provides and scores the tests they take. She said she liked it because she had the time to become proficient in all her subjects and that she was a straight A student. Local schools allowed them to participate in extra-curricular activities and her community had many after school programs in place. I was intrigued and enjoyed our visit, as I attended public school growing up, and went to a community college.

I've read every one of your replies and I want to thank you all for your opinions and info. I've sent an email to one I found through a search engine (I think it was from Yahoo) but I still haven't received a reply from them.

Thanks again. :)

There is a Christian Home Schooling Program available through the  A Beka Acadamy.  I'm not sure you're looking for the religious affiliation, but my wife, a teacher, looked at the program for a friend and thought highly of the progam in terms of educational content, parent preparation, etc.

Either one, but a religious one sounds better to me for what I had in mind. Thanks sooo much. I'll look it up the search engine. :D

I'm sure you get some materials through the mail and support via the Internet.  It's an entire academic package and I believe they provide forums for participating parents.  It's worth a look.
