Here's a comparison for all those who are still thinking Peta's antics aregood. Peta did the a campaign in the past where they walked the streets with dead carcasses saying "here's the other half of your fur coat".
NOW Imagine that Pro-Lifers did the SAME thing. Just imagine them walking the streets saying "here is the dead baby you killed by having an abortion". No! They wouldn't do that in a million years! It's in such bad taste, I don't care if it's animal or human, showing dead beings isn't getting your point across.
My favorite advertisements for Pets or Pro-Life are the ones that show the adorable little animals or babies. Those are the ones that make me want to take action!

Nice visual Suzi... Good point indeed. The other thing these antics don't take into account is the truth of matters. Sure throw red paint on someone's fur... that faux fur could be the one and only coat that person has that they saved up for 2 years to buy. Plus who would want to wear a dead carcass around... at least a fur coat is treated and not stinky anymore.

I don't know much about PETA or other animal rights places but such extremes are silly in my point of view.

Another comparison - I really like the Truth (stop smoking) commercials. They do some silly antics but they do it in a tasteful way that really makes you think. The point is, you can do antics and campaigns - but it doesn't mean they have to be disgusting!

Even if some (or all) of their horror stories aren't true [which I find very hard to believe as there is hard evidence to the contrary], the animals aren't their first concern. They'd rather discuss things on their official website like Madonna being on the "worst dressed list" [http://www.peta.org/feat-worstdressed09-winners.asp] for wearing animal skin, etc. A couple of you have mentioned similar antics that aren't helping animals ONE bit! I'm actually confused about how people can mistake PETA for a legitimate organization. There are a lot of websites and documentaries dedicated to this topic, but until now, I felt like I was in the minority because I dislike PETA so much. Thank goodness I'm not!

Jo, like you once upon a time I was in support of many PETA efforts, however the more I learned and the more I saw of them the less I liked and eventually withdrew my support. It's no secret I am environmentally friendly, and do also support the ASPCA as well as local agencies but feel that their antics go far beyond what is acceptable behavior when trying to promote a cause. I also don't agree with bombing abortion clinics -- and feel that PETA would probably do it if they could and leave a great big "P" at the site. Their antics sicken me and honestly if someone doesn't feel the same way I do, then while I may try to convince them through conversation and my lifestyle, I am so totally against control, manipulation and intimidation I avoid supporting any organization that goes in that direction.

It's sad that they don't do what they set out to do. Protect and ethically treat animals.

I only support Humane Society, JRTCA, WWF, and ASPCA. I've never supported PETA and never will. They don't have the animals interest in heart. All PETA carries about is themselves and nothing about the animals. Everytime I see anything by PETA I get so sick.

They should all be commited to a mental institution because they are INSANE! They love to draw attention to themselves and will do so in any way they can by drawing in the media's attention. Also, they don't have pet's interest in mind. They kill thousands of dogs each year. I do not support this organization, never will in the futrue and will not support any business that supports them. In fact, when I find out that a business supports this organization I send them a letter. I wrote to ELF last year when I discovered they supported PETA. I got a letter back from them thanking me for my comments, that customer concerns are important to them. Apparently they need a few more letters...hint...hint.

I don't support PETA because they spend most of their time on headline grabbing antics. I did a Google search on PETA news stories and found some recent antics.

In Hempstead, NY they entered a children's school uninvited and handed out pictures of injured or sick animals which frightened and scared the kids. In No. Carolina they are pressuring Duke Medical Facility to serve only vegetarian meals to everyone - patients, doctors, nurses, etc. They make a big ruckus then move on. I'd rather support a group that actively focuses on helping animals, not trying to get media attention every day.

Better to protest the stores that make them than the people that buy them anyway.

I am totally ANTI PETA. They suck. There are no pros to Peta. They go to extreme measures and I think their point is totally lost on most people because most people are too caught up in the extreme thing they did. Do they really thing carrying a dead animal carcass around in the streets will convince people to stop wearing fur? Nope! Instead it disgusts all the people who don't wear fur! Do they really think commercials showing dead dogs will stop people from going to buy pets at the store? Nope! Does having naked girls shower in the city teach people ANYTHING? Nope! It just gets a bunch of horny guys to go watch.

I support the Humane Society (all our pets came from there), WWF and ASPCA.... but when I see anything Peta it makes me sick. I've learned that many people associate all animal lovers with Peta and it's not something I want to be associated with.
