So i was thinking... yesterday a flash came across the bottom of the screen about a local child being kidnapped. It went so fast that I actually didn't notice it at first. This made me think... why aren't these the stories they interrupt your show for? here they interrupt to tell me stuff I could care less about, but they won't interrupt to tell me a kid was kidnapped?

I saw a news article this morning that said "American teens lie, cheat, and steal at alarming rates." NO KIDDING! THANKS FOR THE NEWSFLASH! I HAD NO IDEA!

Yeah, they do that quite a bit nowadays. But I don't think they make obvious statements because they think people don't already know. I think they are doing it as a quick reminder, hoping it helps to break some of our bad habits. Since so many people are overweight, they probably view obvious statements about food as a community service announcement. If it helps convince even a tiny fraction of the population to forgo that dip or other high- calorie food, then they consider the announcement a success.

Haha, yeah warning labels are crazy. You know what it means though? It means someone HAS done that! Most warning labels seem to come from things that happened.

I would hope a doctor knew what to do in that situation so you didn't have to find the number. What's sad is most the time I don't even read warning labels at all... and I bet there's a lot of things I don't know about the products i use and the medicenes I take when I'm sick. Oh well :)

How about warning labels that make no sense?

I remember reading a battery package and it said may be refridgerated to extend life of battery but do not eat! Uh duh...I'm watching my calories, I think I'll have a battery!

Right now I'm looking at the warning label on Eveready Super Heavy Duty Batteries:

Keep away from children. If swallowed, promptly see doctor; have doctor phone (202)625-3333 collect.

Okay, it's bad enough the child swallowed a battery. Now lets get to the ER but wait, we need to find that package with that phone number on it so the doctor can call Eveready. Well, at least they are letting you call collect. Now, since the number is posted I wonder if they would accept a collect call from us in general.

The CSR answers: "Eveready what's your emergency?"

"My batteries aren't working."

CSR: "Oh, I'm sorry this is only if you swallow one. Please call...thank you, click."

Reviewer 11 I HATE when they interrupt TV for stupid things. Here are acceptable reasons to interrupt:

a kid was kidnapped
a storm is about to tear the roof off my house
a terrorist attack

Seriously I hate when they interrupt every 5 minutes for a "winter storm". I live in MI, I've been through a million winter storms. Don't interrupt to tell me it's snowing, interrupt if it's reallllllly dangerous, like deadly.

Otherwise, why not just flash on the bottom of the screen the news and let me watch my show??

Jo, now i get why my mom DVRs the news a lot - so she can fast forward to the good stuff! However, sometimes it's hard b/c you can't tell what they are on so you have to keep pressing play to make sure you don't miss anything.

I actually wrote an article in college called "Infotainment" or soemthing like that. I gotta find that :) I had done some research on how the news is trying more and more to entertain and less and less to inform.

YES! Duh! Those "helpful" tips they give right before the holidays are a bunch of crap. If I don't already know that ONE piece of pie is better than TWO pieces with RediWhip......I must be an idiot. LOL

I live in North Carolina, and the hurricane tips they give out every year just kill me too. Stay inside!!!! WOW. Never would have thought of that one. :-)

Oh I thought that was true :P kidding.

I know, for years back, they interrupt a program (local channels) for something stupid like a car chase. Now they make an excuse to give news and interrupt programs. So does this mean if there's a statewide riot burning everything on their path, will the news post it as a "Serious breaking news" or a typical "breaking news?"

Even during news, they have some unimportant reports like what gadgets are out now and how much they cost. If I want to know that, I'd go to the store or read it from (mail) the store paper.

I'm so glad we have satellite and a DVD player. :D

Ha! The news is full of stories like that...and I've noticed that Internet news is full of stories about "scientific studies" that prove things most of us have known for years. Smoking will kill you. People who eat a lot are more inclined to be obese. Folks from cold climates have a higher threshold for winter weather.

Ever watch the news and hear something you never knew before... like this is what they just said on our news in their tips for saving calories on Thanksgiving.

"Eat a few more of these veggies, but hold off on the fattening dip".

I know that was something NONE of you knew, but DIP is the reason we all gain so much weight on Thanksgiving. Aren't you glad the news told you that? You probably would have never realized it otherwise....

Ok, so I'm being sarcastic! Is it just me or is News too busy telling us stuff that we already know instead of what I tuned in to hear! Top story was supposed to be about "the one thing in your emergency kit you probably don't have that could save your life." I got so annoyed with the lady telling me her amazing health tips that I had to change the channel... so I may never know what that life saving emergency item is. Oh well! At least I know not to eat dip!
