Many of you have let us know it feels sorta wonky to have your highest badge following you rather than your current status. (Shout out to Leon for the word, "wonky"... he uses it all the time and we love it!)

We completely understand how that seems weird and are open to your ideas and suggestions for changing the way highest status trumps current as the follower badge.

I will explain our initial thinking so you can see why we made the decision. But also know we are completely open to changing this so if the majority would prefer your current badge as the follower, we can make it happen!

Here are the reasons why we made highest status follow over current:

  • We thought you would like it that way because you worked so hard to get that high badge.
  • From a reader's perspective, we wanted to showcase your highest badge to boast credibility.
  • We were concerned about the issue with starting over every new year and didn't want it to feel like you were completely starting over from scratch as you contribute across the site.

Your input is GOLDEN and drives the changes we make... Weigh in on the conversation here!

I am just glad to have badges following me.  I get a kick out of looking at everyone else's badges too.  I have to agree that while I'm here posting, I' am not writing reviews.  Although I am accumulating the same amount of points.  50 per day to visit and post- 50 for writing a review.

Just likes the word wonky . . . with that being said - behind, in front, to the side, for me personally it doesn't matter.  I love to write reviews.  When I comment on a reviewer's review I rarely look at the "badge" - way too many amazing writers on this sight to decide which one to read or not to read by the badge; however, it may matter [to the writer] when the the product they've reviewed is randomly searched via the internet??

I'm happy with things the way they are.  In fact, I'm equally as proud of all my badges so any of them that show is fine with me.  I just finished working on finishing my "Holiday Helper" badge.

For the record, the 15 year old me would have thought I was a total DORK for caring about badges at all.  LOL

No kidding, BADGES? I was a Brownie and didn't even care THEN. Now I'm all gaga over a badge. Sigh. But it's something to work toward and I love challenges.

I think the badges are fine just the way they are.  V.I.P. appears to be like "President" or "General" -- once a person has achieved that, they are a V.I.P. period whether it takes them a while to earn it again for the next year or not.

One thing that I think you guys will have to face, Meredith, is that not EVERYBODY is going to be happy with EVERYTHING no matter what.  Trying to please everyone on this is going to be a losing battle.

Incidentally, I thought that whoever had the idea of different colored V.I.P. badges for different years was on the target.

My cousin and I don't agree on everything, but I think she's right-on on this one.  Thanks, Anna, for saving me the time of writing it up myself!  Love you!

I was wondering when you get to the next year, how do you know how close you are to the next badge? I see on peoples' profiles their lifetime total, but not the total for that year only. The difference between Advisor and VIP is a lot of points, so I wonder how you know where you are in respect to that year only.

Maybe someone who has been here for more than a year can let me know. Thanks :)

When you're on "My Home" and click the Leader Board tab it tells to first your lifetime points.  You can then choose to display your points by period.  Click on the current year and the leader board shows you your most recent total for that period.  So as of last night you had 43,520 points for 2009.

I fully agree w/ you Cyndi! I feel if you earn the status it should follow you and continue. Giving newbies like me a chance at trying to reach your attainment!

I like the idea of them following me too.  I'm working toward more.

You have 10,065 points in 2009. Your current '09 badge is accurate at Writer level. Writer level is between 6,000 - 14,999 points. You can view your points by year on your leaderboard. Access your leaderboard from your My Home page - Click on your lifetime points number - then use the Time Frame filter at the top to adjust by time period.

You will get a new status badge once you hit the next level by exceeding 14,999 points. That next level is Advisor. See the VIP page for more info.

I agree with GrandmawsOpinion above. I am personally happy with wherever & whatever badge is displayed. While I love reaching the goal of achieving a new status, I do not think it should be a reflection of the reviewer. I know I'm new at this, but even new people can write good reviews : )

Do our extra points "rollover" into the next year like rollover minutes? That would be cool if they did.

I think I understand about the points now.  I just like interacting on the site and with people here.
