I don't know if I'm allowed to ask or even do this-someone please let me know either way before I post a photo.

I am at my wits end with my hair. It is longer than shoulder length, with my longest layer laying a little past the back of my bra band. I had colored it in the past (auburn) but now my length is blonde and my roots are darker (don't ask why blonde length if I previously colored it auburn years ago-weird). I feel I do need bangs because of my face shape and height of my forehead (wish I didn't need bangs, but I do). I have a 'long' face, if that makes sense. If I can post a photo, it would help you to help me decide on what hairstyle would look good on me. I want to get it cut soon but just want someone's opinion-strangers are usually more honest than friends or family, but that's just my opinion.

Thanks, and please let me know if I can post a photo to ask for help in this situation. If I can, I'll post one in my profile photos.

L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara

PattyTherre said…

I like it too. I have learned how to apply it so that it doesn't clump at all and it still gives me really long lashes. I have resisted the Givenchy mascara thus far but I probably won't for much longer.

Be strong !! but should you purchase it, please DO let me know what you think.

I applied my 'explosion" mascara at 8 this morning and it's still holding steady, no flakes. I'm amazed that it holds up so well. I never had good luck with any L'oreal mascara in the past. I think I'll put this one on my keeper list lol.

The ideal woman body - discussion

1) Can it be true that women have to be so skinny that it can be dangerous to them, to be seen as "sexy" or "pretty" etc?

No. Check the studies and check with men. Men like curves. The anorexic model look is not what most guys are looking for even if a lot of women try to go for that look.

2) How can it be that the ideal for a woman's body has changed so fast, since Twiggy in the 1960'es started the "skinny-fashion"?

We are a culture of extremes. If a little bit is good, a lot is a whole lot better. This is in reverse in terms of weight.

3) Does beauty still come from the inside in a society like today?

Yes. It does. But, the pressure to be what one is not is huge. Getting hung up on what is the perfect body or face or whatever shadows the real person and makes her (of him) less attractive.

4) How to define a "beautiful body"?

There are lots of beautiful bodies and they are worn by beautiful people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and personalities. An honest smile, a friendly nature and an enthusiasm for life can turn someone who might be defined by society as not so great looking into a real hottie.

5) Do the media have some of the responsibility for these ideals?

Yes. The media uses lighting and photo brushing and so on to create ideals that are not realistic. Sadly, some people think that the illusions are reality. So, some women (and men) shoot for stars that will always be out of reach or even worse - expect that from partners. There are no perfect people - physical or otherwise.

6) Is it possible to avoid being affected by these ideals - why/why not?

It is difficult to live in a society that is saturated with media images that are unrealistic and unattainable. But, many people do find their own groove and feel comfortable in their own bodies. They are blessed, and they are a blessing to us all.

7) Would it be an idea to ban the using of skinny girls in the fashion world, e.g. on the runway?

When we get caught up in "rules" or laws, then that's not a good thing. It's better to let public opinion (hopefully with information) dictate what is in and what is not. If we draw lines in the sand, where do those end? What is too thin? What is too thick? I'd say, individuals need to speak up. That can be with the wallet. Personally shut out designers that do not consider real bodies and the needs of real buyers.

8) There are already some fashion houses that have decided to ban the skinniest girls. Is this enough to develop a healthier ideal?

Some people are naturally skinny. I don't see banning them or other body sizes and shapes. Just offer a range with most in the realistic categories - average women with typical bodies. Skinny, average, and curvy should all be represented.

9) Ana Carolina Reston died from nerveous anorexia, a disease caused by her career. Do we have to find a solution to this problem?

How do you know that her disease was "caused by" her career. There are women who starve themselves to death who are not models. AN is a disease. It should be seen and treated as such.

10) If yes - What could be the solution to this problem?

My answer is technically no, but anyone with an eating disorder needs medical help. The woman can be rich and famous or living in a shack on food stamps. If she is sick, she needs help and that includes help for eating disorders.

Hello :-)
We are 3 students from Denmark, and we are writing an assignment at school about the ideal woman body. We would like you to answer (/discuss) some of the following questions, so that we can use it in our paper.

- Thanks alot! :-)

I honestly think the ONLY thing I would not change up or part with is Dermablend concealer. I have cosmetic and skin care faves but I would be willing to switch (and do) if something captures my interest. But I have used Dermablend for over 20 years and it works better than any other concealer I have tried although I have about 50 others!

I have a routine for all my skins personalities if you will lol. When I get break-outs or feel one coming on, I use ProActiv 3 step system and in no time the eruption(s) are under control and on their way to gone, it really works for me.

Otherwise, I like trying new things and I'll stick with what works best. One of my favorites is Neutrogena's original cleansing bar, it does a good, gentle job and cleans very well without disturbing skin.

As far as makeup, I'm all over the board, I try what appeals to me most, one staple for me is Bare Escentuals mineral veil, I like the way it feels, been using it for a long time, won't be without it. If you took a look at my beauty stash you'd definitely see an eclectic mix of brands and formulas for sure.

What's the BEST mascara?

I remember that one! Why can't someone come up with a perfect mascara? I know it's out there. It seems if the formula is good, the brush makes lashes stick together and if the brush is awesome, the formula flakes or doesn't lengthen well. All I want is length, volume, no flaking or clumping, super dramatic, fringy lashes that stay that way all day and then the mascara comes off with my usual facial cleanser. They can send a man to the moon but can't make a great mascara? Sheesh. ;)

Do you have a CostCo near you? They have a Facial Cleansing Cloth, their own Kirkland Brand. They are really inexpensive, less than you are paying for Baby Wipes and they have Green Tea Extract, an antioxidant. And Chamomile Extract to sooth your skin. Even removes eye makeup, including waterproof mascara! They are amazing! HUGE amount for about 12 bucks!

Was Illegal Lengths the mascara that was one of the first to have the "clean brush"? When you pulled it out of the tube, there was a chamber that took all the gunk off. If that is Illegal Lenths, I have used it and did like it, but it was a million years ago!

Well, I've been using the L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara for a few days now so I think I can safely share my opinion on it and will do so very soon.

Does anyone remember when Maybelline had their Illegal Lengths mascara? it was one of my most favorite out of their mascara line, it did everything a mascara is supposed to do. The best thing about it was that you could build it up without getting fuzzy spider leg lashes and you'd end up with stunning long dark fringy lashes; it was so good, I just wish they would bring it back :(

Meredith said…

Considering the amount of gifts I need to buy + holiday travel costs- switching from Trish McAvoy's tube mascara to L'oreal Double Extend sounds like a no brainer. Me and my checking account thank you, Bugg! I didn't realize there were multiple brands using the "beauty tubes." Yay.

Blinc's Kiss Me mascara was the first one to introduce the tubes concept. It's pricey but amazing in that it will not budge no matter what. And taking it off is scary/fun. Scary because it looks like lashes are coming off and fun to pull the tubes off. Now everyone's got a tube mascara. I have yet to try any others but may. I like the concept very much but the price is high for Kiss Me so...I will try some others.

Because I NEED more mascara and all. ;)

Buggheart said…

I have tried a million mascaras. Both my mom and I used to love the Maybelline mascara in the white tube but they discontinued it. So since then I've been searching for the ultimate mascara and found that I love Rimmel's Lash Maxx. The applicator is a crazy little pink comb that you wouldn't think would work at all, but it works really well for me. I can apply 3 coats and it never clumps and the comb gives great definition.

The other one I really like is L'oreal Double Extend. I get really thick, full lashes with just one or two coats. And it has that "beauty tubes" technology that makes the mascara just fall right off my lashes when I get them wet in the shower. Amazing stuff and much cheaper than the premium brands.

L'Oreal Double Extend! That's the one I was thinking of Meredith! Ok, now I want it!

That kind of sounds like the L'Oreal beauty tube mascara. I haven't tried it yet, but I read that the "tubes" also can be removed. Sounds interesting, yes you should review it!
