Do you color your hair at home?

I color my hair at home because it is costly to have someone else do it. I was really nervious about getting my hair colored, but not enough to let those sneeky little gray hairs stay any longer, besides the number of gray hairs were to many to keep pulling them out. och! I took my teenage daughter with me to pick the right color for me. Later that evening my daughter colored my hair for me. We hung out in the bathroom listening to her type of music and just shared a great time with each other. I guess that when my daughter does my hair, it is worth the mess and hassel. But when I have to do it myself, not so much.

As for your second question on advice for a first timer, have a teenager do it. Make it all about them their music, They will feel special and will open up to you and you will have done something special for someone special. Young ladys love playing with hair. I know I picked the right person to do my hair and I am glad I did.

I thought it would be fun to dye my hair something shocking, like electric blue or something, just for fun. But my hair is mostly black, so I'd have to bleach it out first, and (1) I'm not sure how well that would work, and (2) I imagine after so many chemicals, it might end up kind of brittle.

I never had any type of facial hair until I got sun-damage. I also find that waxing works well, but it took me awhile to come to that conclusion. I normally get my brows waxed, but the first time I ever had my lip waxed it was numb for the rest of the day. It took me a long time to go back and have it done again, but the second experience was much better than the first.

Laser is only semi permanent. It will come back but it takes years. Waxing works, but if you are going to do laser or electrolysis then you MUST shave, because any method where you pull the hair out makes it harder for laser or electrolysis to work properly (something about altering the shape of the hair follicle).

My sister uses a new cream called Vaniqua that can only be bought with a perscription. She has been using it for three months now for her unwanted facial hair and its working great for her. I've seen the results and I am amazed at the results she has. She used to have a little moustache and now it is gone. Maybe you should ask your dermatologist if its a product you can use.

So here's my line...There aren't many of you in your late 50s so keep that in mind:)

I see my folks, they're getting
old, I watch
their bodies
change...
I know they see the same in
me, And it makes us both feel
strange...
No matter how you tell yourself, It's
what we all go through...
Those lines are pretty hard
to take when they're staring'
back at you.
Scared you'll run out of time. song by Bonnie Raitt

Time gets us all in the end. That's not a reason for tears or panic, but accepting it will bring real peace and help you enjoy life.

My own take on aging: take good care of yourself (exercise, skin products, laughter, good diet, etcetera), but don't work too hard to hide the marks of time. Instead, spend the energy to accept your older self and to feel secure that physical age doesn't need to reflect the youth of your spirit! Before you know it, your eye will become trained to notice inner beauty relatively more.

Waxing works well, especially if you bleach in the meantime while you're waiting for the next time to wax. It also will thin out as you wax more often.

Don't shave unless you're in an absolute pinch, and if you do, ensure that you have a fresh razor blade!

PattyTherre said…

I am part of BzzAgent as well as Vocalpoint and both offer lots of opportunities to try beauty products (as well as other products). I have received many free items from those two places as well as just general hunting around looking for freebies. Walmart always has tons of freebie samples which I always get to try things out as do many other places.

Wigs or Extensions?

I think it depends. My father's wife uses glue in extensions (I call them "Lee press on hair") and they dont look good after say 1 day. Then you can have them sewn in and they can look good for longer (say 2 to 3 weeks).

I think wigs are fun and if you spend a lot of money they can look good. As with anything you get what you pay for. They also make 1/2 wigs, for just the back of your hair, not as hot as a full headed wig.

I used to wear a lot of fake hair on clips and combs. You pull your hair into a ponytail and clip the fake hair in. It was fun and they looked real, good for a bad hair day or a day when you didn't feel like doing your hair. They are another option.

Have fun!
