great site with hard to find products

5

DealExtreme is a great site I found a lot of things here that I could not find anywhere, like mp3 player to mobile phones, toys, audio gear, they have lots of cool stuff. I enjoyed browsing though their nice selection of rare products and the prices were also great. I would recommend this site to people that are looking for cheap deals. Ease of Use The site is easy to navigate and they have a new arrivals section which is very cool to me. They also have a forum that I can use to post questions about the website if I need help. Product Selection All their products are all hard to find stuff, like toys to mobile phone, mp3 players they are all rare products. DealExtreme is a very cool shopping website. Product Pricing The prices are super low and that is great. Customer Service There customer service is great, I got help right away when I posted a question in the support forum on their website. Shipping and Returns There shipping takes a little long to arrive that is because they are located out of the US, for regular shipping I got my item in around 3 weeks.

Prices worth the wait

Dealextreme.com is one of my favorite stores to browse and shop at. It has some of the lowest prices on the internet. It also has a points earned system that can be applied to future purchases. The points earned stack up extremely slowly though. Although the points stack up slow, the prices are so minimal that it doesn't really even matter that their idea of a reward system sucks. they have a very extensive product catalogue and a lot of cool, novelty, gag and prank items as well. They are one of the very few stores that still sell sea monkeys. Then line shopping there is super simple although, every time you click on a new item, it opens a new page. I think that is a bit annoying. It is best to register for an account prior to making a purchase. Even though it is not required, it is the only way to earn and keep track of your points. One of my favorite things about Dealextreme.com is that they don't spam you. They only send emails no more than about 1 time a week. The only thing I don't like about deal extreme is that their shipping process is super slow. You are highly unlikely to receive your order before a full month or so later. This is not a site to buy a birthday gift for that you need within a week or so. Overall, their prices are very good but their shipping is not. I utilize the site regularly because there are a lot of benefits from shopping there and the good far out weigh the bad.

Extremely hit or miss with working products

I discovered this site about 2 years ago looking for phone accessories. They are a US based site with fullfillment and shipping from China. They have many other clone sites from other countries as well but the US is the only one I'm familiar with. I order all kinds of things on here as they come ridiculously cheap and they ship from China for free. In the past they would arrive in just a few days which was incredibly amazing but over the last year there shipping has changed in some way and now you wait anywhere from a few weeks to over a month for something. I have made maybe 20 orders in the past year and usually half of everything comes in defective or not working as far as anything electronic. I do not recommend this site for anything that is electronic based on this return rate, for anything else its great as there is less room for defects. Making returns or exchanges is also incredibly difficult as they are located overseas, there is a general ticket system which works like many other behind the times sites. They have always helped but its always taken forever.

Ordered a Dozen Times from Here!

The thing about Deal Extreme is that you have to pick items that have lots of reviews on the website. The newer and relatively unknown products, you should stay away from until you there is established feedback on the website. I've purchased cell phone protectors, cables, PCI cables without any issue at all. The products are decent quality and haven't been defective at all. You can pay using Paypal and there is the buyer protection guarantee with that. Furthermore, you also get free shipping with all orders. Now the only issue that I have is that the free shipping takes forever for the order to arrive. Sometimes it takes 3-4 weeks and sometimes even more. If you get mail with tracking, then thats where the cost issues come into play. It would cost roughly $20-30 extra for registered mail with tracking, but even with that the speed is quite slow. Takes up to a week for delivery.

I really like deals

Deal Extreme is seriously my guilty pleasure. I have spent hours browsing their $2 gadgets and I've made fun of anyone who has ever paid full price for any cables or other kinds of random gadgets. I got my sister a pig key chain that lights up and my friend a butane cigarette lighter. I've also been tempted by the sort of strange things they have, like "the world's strongest magnet" the "World's Smallest Solar Powered Car" or "Cosmetic Wide Double-eyelid Stickers - Black". I have an ipod charger from Deal Extreme that I got for $2 five years ago that still works (and works better than the ones from the apple store) At the same time, I have two complaints about them. Ordering things from Deal Extreme was always been an exercise in patience. I could order something from them, and not receive it for a month. I understand that they're far away, but still! Also, a few of the items i've gotten have broken after little or no use. When I was in Europe a few summers ago, a wall adaptor I bought broke shortly after I arrived. I had to scramble (and pay full price!) for another one.

TOTAL JUNK

1

This company is not even good to use to order cheap items. I believe it is a scam since they ship really cheaply made items that don't work and then only offer a store credit or send you another of a item that works no better than the 1st cheap junk they sent you. The junk probably costs them a nickel and so for my $14 order they could ship this junk as a replacement to you for years. Stay away or rather run away from this web site.

Defective items and frustrating customer service

2

I had a rather unpleasant experience with DealExtreme. Ordering went fine, but when I received the items I noticed that three of the six items I ordered were faulty! A t-shirt had a stain ( http://imgur.com/SfBms ) and the printed text was already degraded ( http://imgur.com/kgq1p and http://imgur.com/ryxqh ). A sticker left a glue stain on a leather case ( http://imgur.com/1ueD1 ). One of the items was a turtle alarm clock, and it has multiple issues. First, the manual is written in such bad English that parts of it are incomprehensible. Second, the manual says that the starry sky projection feature requires a power adapter and cable but this was not mentioned on DealExtreme site! What's worse, they didn't provide the necessary adapter. Third, the quality of the LCD display was very poor - the numbers and letters were barely readable. Fourth, the turtle was supposed to have a thermometer, but the reported temperature was way too hot - it certainly wasn't 42 degrees Celsius (or 110 Fahrenheit) in my apartment. Dealing with the DealExtreme staff was another unpleasant experience. The customer service person wasn't impolite, but she could have had better English. The whole process of returning the items was difficult and time-consuming. The system for doing this was inflexible - for example, you couldn't return multiple items under the same ticket or send messages relating to a ticket unless it was in response to a question from DealExtreme. It was also ridiculous that DealExtreme only agreed to reimburse the return shipping costs up to a certain point - why the hell do they ship total crap to customers and then expect the customers to return the items at their own expense? One more thing. I wrote a negative review about the turtle alarm clock to the site. In my opinion the review wasn't defamatory or anything, but the review never appeared on the site. I kind of expected this, so after posting the review I checked that it appeared under my account (I actually also took a screenshot, but I accidentally deleted the file later...). Later when I re-checked it I couldn't see the review under my account or on the item page. DealExtreme never bothered to explain what was wrong about the review, so I was left with the impression that it hurt their sales and that was all they cared about... I don't think DX deserves a rating of 1, however. I still got back most of my money (or all of it? can't remember anymore).

Defective merchandise & no contact #, bad service, no refund.

1

Bought a video recorder that arrived in used condition with scratches and would not record video. I immediately contacted the company and sent pictures of the defects. They have no telephone number! They sent me an email 2 weeks later telling me to go to the manufacture website to get technical help. I had to write back telling them yet again that the unit was used and defective. They sent me an email another week later asking me to send the unit back at my cost and that they would refund me (including my cost of shipping). I have the postage confirmation that they received the package a month ago and I am still awaiting a refund. I followed up via email two weeks after and they just responded today! This time they said they were on holiday and that I should have told them I was sending the unit back and to send them pictures of the shipment and postage. What???? They told me to send it back, gave me the instructions to do so, and the postage is right on the package! Unbelievable, right? Being that they took so long to ship the item to me and with the consistent 2 week response time, it's pretty clear they're just giving me the run around.  By they way, they don't allow direct email for customer service. You always need respond to the thread under your order # and you can't send a follow-up unless they respond to you (which takes forever)! I couldn't even get a response from their Sales email. Now I'm posting this everywhere just to inform other people so they don't make the same mistake I did.

Cheap but disappointing

3

DX prices are quite good, though they're now not as competitive as they were some time ago. The problem comes with the service. Though the costumer support is polite, they use strange tactics (like bargaining and so on). Don't expect to have the items on time. And if you need a RMA, then you'll have a problem. So that's why I would only recommend DX for very cheap products or things that cannot arrive broken.
