I had the opportunity to use this site when a friend became severely injured in a bicycle accident last week. His friends set up the site, which enables one key person to update his medical situation at any time news is available, and also lets friends write notes to him and/or his family, provide inspirational quotes, share medical stories that are similar to his, or provide insight into medical professionals his family may want to consult. In addition, the key person may load in photographs (sent electronically to him by friends from around the world). This particular injured person has friends around the world, and as news spreads of his injury, more and more people want to check on his condition. There are more than 500 messages to his family on the site right now, and more than 800 email addresses have been registered to his site -- how could the family have responded to that many notes on their own computers or cell phones? Friends can send a link to the site to other friends and they can then get the information as well. Each time the main care "update" page is added to by the key person, you can receive an email notice, so you know when to log in to the site for news.
Finally, the site allows you to search for others that have had similar injuries, and see their progress. Reading that someone else has a similar condition, went through a similar operation, and is healing in a similar manner, is very comforting. The site is ideal for someone with a significant injury, an ongoing illness (e.g., cancer treatment), a premature infant, etc.
I would encourage anyone in a situation like this to use this free site.
