One of After Dark's Horrofest films, The Abandoned tells the story of a middle-aged orphan woman who returns to her home nation of Russia to find some trace of her heritage. Her family's estate lies up in the mountain, deep in the woods, with only a small road as access since a bridge on a larger road was never repaired.
The woods are pitch black, her hired driver disappears and after a fruitless search for him she is in the house alone. But not alone. Certainly a low-budget film but the use of lighting, make-up and the delapitated house itself effectively create the forboding tension. ...
