I have been reading Danielle Steel since I was in middle school. The Gift is one of her best, with Fine Things coming in first place in my opinion. The writing in The Gift is heartfelt and she isn't trying to rush the story or use too much "filler" as she does in more recent books. If you are a Danielle Steel fan, I would stick with her older books. I have a hard time reading the newer ones as I don't think I can read anymore versions of the New York Super Success somehow moving to California and meeting another Super Success there.
