Mcafee Total Protection 2009.  What can I say about this software?  Is it expensive?  Yes.  Will it bog down your computer with endless updates, long running scans, and countless processes?  Yes.   Does it block or remove all viruses, spyware, and malware that threaten your computer?  Absolutely...NOT.

Mcafee will monitor your computer just fine.  It does tend to block quite a few intrusions and will alert you when something tries to get into your computer.  But it doesn't block or remove nearly enough stuff for what they charge you.  Got a virus that the software will not remove. ...
